That was very well explained, thank you. I've also had a quick look at your eBook, which looks great. I like that you included photos. I seem to be living vicariously through you at the moment, lol, as I am neither a poodle breeder or owner, though I think, in an ideal world, that I would quite like to be. Thanks for your videos. I'm also bemused by how different the red colour works in dogs compared to cats.

I am very happy that I found your video. We breed Havapoo puppies in Sweden. Both of our red Toy Poodle males tested KbKb and ee according to the Embark test. So far, three litters of puppies have been born from one of the males, and most of them are black, so my question is: what DNA results should a Havanese female have to produce red, apricot, or cream puppies? Am I correct in understanding that it is important for the female to have at least one e allele, but preferably be ee and isn't dominant black at the K locus??Also, is it true that every red Poodle has Kb or KbKb at the K locus?

Hi Carrie, blue/ silvers can be bred with other blues or silver, silver-beige, white or if neither of those options are available then black. That’s if you want a production of blues and silvers

Hello! what to expect when breeding black poodle (black, brown and little of apricot/red backround) with silver (white and silver) backround. Puppies were born all black, but are they gonna stay black or fade to blue or even silver?

By 6-weeks of age you could tell if they’ll turn silver or even blue by lightening on the muzzle area. I’d love to know if any turned silver from your litter. Keep me posted

So the stud I used for my girl is zee, Bb, stat, Ssp… he is a red standard poodle My girl is white and apricot parti poodle She has, at tan points 1 copy , ay fawn 1 copy, KB dominat black 2 copies, e1(recessive red) 2 copies, bs(chocolate/brown) 2 copies, sP piebald/ parti 2 copies I’m beyond confused. thank you

Your litter should mostly be Parti (red/white).

Hi Kendall! If you can find a Dam with those visual features that you want in your production then that would be the best bet because you’re already starting with a deficient male having [SS]. Your female will need the following genetic profile [ee-spsp], the other traits are not important if your main goal is red tuxedo and abstract.

Sometimes the points fade as they grow because of environmental factors. It’s not uncommon for a Bb to be born either black points and just as their color fades the points fades as well.

Absolutely! Black points to black points and brown to brown with the exception of silver (black points) being bred with silver beige (brown points).

It depends on their genetic traits! More than likely you’ll get some blues (remember they are born black so don’t be mislead into registering them black when born).
