Lot’s of nice looking cues Ron. Thanks for your honest review🤩👍. Good luck with the new shaft.

Go with a Carbon Shaft with the pro taper. That way when you end up switching down the road, it's not a HUGE issue for you to adjust from wood to Carbon Fiber. Plus, they don't ding or warp and basically last forever

I use a Mike Lambros jump cue and loved it so much that I also ordered and recently received one of his playing cues...both of them have surprised me greatly...he used a phenolic Ferrell and a thoroughbred tip set up

Thanks Tim, I’ve been thinking of pulling the trigger on a good jump cue. I’m elevating without issue but feel a dedicated cue may be more accurate. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 thanks again!

looks like my heavy hitter 25 oz break cue there... i took out the weight so she is now about 21.... love it for the breaks,,, my pool friends use it also and affectionately call her Loretta....LOL i have that Purex also with a kamui soft black tip....that is my playing cue..... I realize this video was 2 yrs ago but came upon it and thought it is funny how i'm following some of your footsteps.... still practicing.... Vince

A lot has changed since then Vince. I actually gave away my Rage 25 oz break/jump cue long ago and now break with a Cuetec Synergy Breach break cue. (love my Breach) When I need to jump, I use my Predator AirRush jump cue. Also; my shooting cue is a Predator Sport 2 w/Z3 maple shaft. Thanks for sharing what it is that you use 👍🏻😊👍🏻 PS, that Purex is a great cue and I still have mine.

I have a 14oz break cue and love it. It comes with an extension that can make it a 6' cue for those longer tables which also doubles as the handle for the "jump" portion of it. The dude who makes them is pretty umm "unique" but his cue is solid. It's crazy how light the thing is.

Thanks for sharing Matt. I’ve been using a lighter break cue too. Also, I ended up giving away that 25 oz beast break/jump cue and have bought a new AirRush 12 1/2 oz jump cue. I have used the AirRush to break with and it actually works pretty good so I can see where your 14 oz would do great. I’ve also used all the Predator break additions as a friend has them all. Those cues are super nice but are not cheap. For now, (until I find something better) I’ll stick to what I’m using and that’s a champion 18 oz with a super hard leather break tip. Thanks again for sharing what you’re using Matt 👍🏻

Honestly personal opinion I would say every tip hardness possible to find what's your personal preference. Don't stick with the same hardness tip right away forever because you'll be in trouble

Yes, I’ve shot with everything from super soft to actual phenolic. I ended up liking the medium/hard Kamui.

Champion cues actually have their own branded tips so it's weird why yours came with tiger tips

Hey Ron just got in my purex low deflection cue hey is the front cue shaft are they light and a little wobbly when hit is that normal or is it broke iv never owned one so I dont know please let me know but luv the look on my purex.
@ronthepoolstudent
@ronthepoolstudent 2 года назад
Yes Gino, that’s typical for a low deflection cue as the shaft Has to get out of the way of the cue ball after it strikes it.

I hear a lot of players talking about taking the Predator tip off, instantly, when they get their new Predator cue. And for a wide variety of reasons, as to why.

Thanks for your comment SPP. After 5,600 hours of play, I’ve come to like a Kamui medium to hard tip. The Predator Victory tip would probably work too, but I’m now invested 🤷🏻‍♂️ Thanks again 👍🏻😊

Hi Ron, if i may, i suggest you to try Peri Barron series, P-D04 my personal favorite with a p20 shaft, with a kamui clear black soft tip, i promise you will love the hit quality that stick provides...

Thank you for your comment John, I really appreciate the info. This video is from quite awhile ago and since then, I’ve settled in on an 11.8 low deflection shaft. I now have two cues that fit my game, the Z3 Predator and a Purex Low D cue. Both have Kamui medium tips. I was using the Kamui soft but switched to a harder tip several months ago. This being said, I’ll check out a Peri Barron series when I run across one. Thanks again John for the suggestion and info 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Ron, I thought I bought the same cue as you, Predator sport 2 z3 shaft. I have the gradual rise pro taper. You have the conical? BTW I ordered the Pure X HXT 90 with the Kamui soft tip for my son for Christmas. He has been playing a lot with me using the house cues. I order his wife a Players cue. It should be a fun Christmas. They come every Thursday for pool night!

Awesome gifts that will make them very happy. You have the pro taper Z3 which is way better I think. I played again today on the tight pocket 9’ Diamond with my Purex pro taper. We played 45 games and I came out on top 27-18. I love that cue more than my Predator lately…🤷🏻‍♂️

Ok lots of good stuff. Tips will take a while to find what you like, he'll Efren still uses pressed Elkmasters. The Victory tip on your Predator, they get hard fast but it's on the surface. Hit it with a tip pin and then reshape it, remove a little of the tip it will play like new. After you do that a few times get a Technodud from Outsville, that's what I am currently using and love. Also the pro taper is nice if it's long. I have short arms and hit rise to soon on a long bridge. Next take the weight bolt out of the break cue and try it. You want speed. As recall you know a little about speed and weight to horsepower.

Ron, “The pool student” BTW I am currently play a Predator P3 with the Revo 12.75. The Revo is no better than your Z3, it is just easier to maintain. It's actually a good idea to have to identical or similar shaft in case you blow a tip in competition. With you mechanical ability learn to change your own tips then it's quick and easy to change. If you have a question believe me I have already geeked out over it, just ask.

I'm contemplating about buying a cue coz' I always play with house cue and sometimes the only cue available is warped so bad. Thank you so much for this video it's very informative. BTW Any thoughts about what diameter should I go with? I have a small hands and I don't know if I should go with 12.5 or 11.8.
@ronthepoolstudent
@ronthepoolstudent 10 месяцев назад
Thanks for your question Angelo. Imo, hand size and cue shaft diameter sound not matter. This being said, you may want to opt for a pro-taper. Pro-taper shafts maintain the same diameter from tip to approximately 10-12” up the shaft before tapering. Note; pro taper shafts are available in large/small diameters as well. Shaft diameter: Personally, I like an 11.8 pro-taper shaft. This smaller diameter provides very low deflection (less cue ball squirt) and helps with effortless spin. This being said, I’ve heard they are more difficult to shoot with by lesser skilled players. I can not tell you however, as I’ve ALWAYS shot with an 11.8. Keep in mind, which ever shaft diameter you elect to go with, you’ll need to give it time before you should expect consistent shot making results. Your stroke and aim for deflection will need to adapt. Eventually, you’ll be able to shoot without thought as you become more familiar with your cue’s performance. Thanks again for your questions and please feel free to reach out with any other questions you may have 👍🏻 ❤️🎱 .

Hey, Ron, you answered a question of mine a couple months ago about "aiming" the shaft at the object ball. I've since found that I have an easier time aiming with wood vs carbon, especially when the glare from lights hits the carbon. Is that one of the reasons you use wood shafts over carbon? Regarding your video, I started with the tapered 12.75, Player's HXT Purex and now have added a tapered 11.75, Z3, both used on my Player's butt end. Love both of them! I also have a Predator Revo and carbon Viking, which are both great shafts and equal to one another, in my opinion, but the aiming issue tips the scales in favor of wood. Thanks for the video!
@ronthepoolstudent
@ronthepoolstudent 2 года назад
Just saw your comment/question Steve. Good point about the coloration of the shaft and how this can affect aim. To answer if that’s why I use wood, that answer is no. Glad you gave your experience with that. Thanks for the compliment bud. 😊👍🏻

Interesting that you say you like the Pure X cue better than the Predator. I have a Lucasi cue and got a Predator 314 shaft to try as was told it was better. Went straight back to my Lucasi, problem was the 314 was just to light for me. And the Lucasi gives me more forward weight and keeps me more on line. Is your Pure X cue shaft heavier than you Predator shaft.

Why don’t you use soft Kamui tip?
@ronthepoolstudent
@ronthepoolstudent Год назад
I’ve used super soft then soft, mediums and hards these last two years. (old video btw) I’ve settled in to using a medium/hard tip which I love. As my stroke has improved, I’ve found the harder tip performs best for me. It’s up to the individual actually. Today, I’m able to shoot very well and gain my positions with a well used Kamui medium which plays hard. Thanks for your question Cong 👍🏻 Btw, I just hit 5,600 practice hours 811 days in. I switched to the medium tip some eight months ago.

Don't understand a "jump" cue. Was taught to always keep the ball on the table. Teaches you angles, kicks and banks
@ronthepoolstudent
@ronthepoolstudent Год назад
Me too Rod, not a fan deep down. The problem arises if your opponent is an excellent jump shot artist and your not. You’ll be at a big disadvantage as a result. I kick/bank very well but at times, a jump shot can be automatic vs a kick. For that reason, I worked at getting good at jump shots to level the playing field. Thanks for your comment 👍🏻
