I used to jump yrs ago but not often even then, only when absolutely necessary and when the place permitted it; typical local house(s) rule was "no jump shots!". Now, after some 28yrs away from any type of play -- it's definitely not a shot I'd go to; have tried and found that my shoulders really hamper me. If I absolutely had to, I could use the "dart" but not comfortable with it. Regardless -- practice is absolutely essential. Many scoop, thinking it's a jump --- and they don't realize it's actually an illegal shot!!! Love it, keep doin' the good deed brother! Be Safe

Great lesson. Learn to get the ball in the air. This is what I needed. I am APA 7 and never have learned to jump. I always went the "kick at the ball" route or masa the cue ball. I have always been scared to try but this lesson doesn't scare me. Thanks!!!

One thing I can say about jump shots is, I have tried it for years without success but the moment I bought a real jump cue I was able to jump with no problem right away. I even taught my father and uncle who do not play much pool to jump in a couple minutes. It’s all about that hard phenolic tip. With some elevation of the cue, the ball should pop up in the air with no effort.

Hi Steve. Under $100 is tuff but look for a used jump cue. Also you can buy a break/jump cue and get more bang for the buck.

Great videos! Is it the wrist action that pulls the tip forward so the tip won't damage the felt? So if the tip is well chalked and the cue ball is hit where you want to, you don't worry about any damage?

The table in that video is 8 foot and buying the individual cues always have better performance than the break jump combination cues. I have not used any brakes/jump cues in 15 years.

Hi, i started to learn to jump with your video, I manage to jump 1,5 chalk cube so far. I'm not able to jump with my jump cue, but with my regular cue, it's quiet easy (maybe the tip is hard enough). To jump higher do the stroke need to be harder/powerful or do I have to elevate the cue more?
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards 2 года назад
Usually it's not hitting the ball harder but having the correct angle and "committing to the stroke" Good follow through is key. Also make sure you are not holding the cue too tight. If you want to send me a video to see what you are doing, you can post something and send me a link. fxbilliards@gmail.com

I recently watched a match with Earl from a couple weeks ago. A lot of people never saw it because it was a local thing race to 21 with Earl and josh brothers. Earn attempted about four jump shots none of them landed one ended up on the floor and a couple never made it into the air. He was using a jump cue.

Brian what's up Brother. Just got back from Philadelphia 2024 pool Expo! WAS INCREDIBLE!!! Question, because of limitations in A.P.A. and T.A.P. I have a 100 year old walking stick/pool stick. Where the butt end is hollow. Because the shaft goes into the butt. Well if I take the weight off the back. Now I have an extremely light masse/jump/break stick. Now I kept the screw on ferrule and a variety of tips. 10mm for masse. And larger phenolic tips for break and jump. I understand that screw on tips don't last as long. But if you have a bunch. Because they are cheap. I don't understand, for specialty, rarely used shots. Why the pros wouldn't use these for the versatility aspect. And to get around some "rules". In leagues and tournaments? I would love to hear your take. My thought is that I could have a quality shooting stick with a quality fixed tip. Then my other stick with the screw on tips. With different sizes. Now I have a swiss army stick. And my shooting stick?! Now I feel I'm COVERED! IN ALL SCENARIOS?! Thoughts? Thanks bud COLDRED
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards 3 месяца назад
You will never see a pro with a screw in tip. They are of such low quality that it would be like putting 50 tires on your car. It’s not about lasting but every shot with a tip like that will feel like a miscue and it might as well be. They are also set on a plastic base. Screwed into a plastic ferrel. Blindfolded, even mid level players would feel like there was no tip at all on the cue. Try ASAP to move to quality. Glad you enjoy the expo. We (FXB LLC )will have a booth next year.

May sure your grip on the cue is as light as it is on the dart style. Letting your wrist do more work might also help, because it simulates the dart shot in many ways. If you want to email me a link to a video of you trying the shot, you can email me at fxbilliards@gmail.com

Take a lesson from the Filipino pro players. Almost none use jump cues. They kick at the object ball and have far more control over the cue ball as well as the object ball then do the players who use jump cues.
@FXBilliards
@FXBilliards 2 года назад
There are situations that MUST be kicked and some that MUST be jumped. Many of the Filipino players have better kicks from playing three cushion. Thanks for watching.
@donkeydiehard879
@donkeydiehard879 7 месяцев назад
Cool story... Saying "Filipinos don't use short sticks," is a falacy. The definitely do. Not learning how to use the short stick is doing yourself a disservice. Like it or not, jumping is here and here to stay. I believe that a player should be able to kick just about anywhere in the table before learning how to jump. There are ton of things that should be taught and learned first.

Okay so I actually jump a ball pretty well over 10 inches I mostly dart but I do both but I've always thought of it as a dart throw a flick. To throw quick power into it and and no weight on the cue upon impact. Is that the wrong theory and me being able to jump just councidence with the wrong theory, because I'd like to learn to jump as close as possible so I'm looking at videos now and your not the first to say follow through for the hit witch is the opposite of what I thought worked for me

Honestly, if you’re asking about tip shape, you have the wrong cue in your hand. It’s not relevant to the shot. If you have a jump cue it’s already shaped - If you’re jumping with your playing cue , it should be a dime or nickel. But the chances of you pulling it off or next to zero. And the bridge is right there on the video. The bridge they get you the angle as described in the video is the bridge to use.
