Excellent job! I was thinking EDPM as a lining for the ball runs, and also applying acoustic absorbent material inside the main structure (which is pretty much a sound box!). I had not even thought about the use of foam and webbing on the plastic ball channels. - Great Idea, Thanks! :)

yup , it acts like a speaker cab with nothing in , thankyou and glad it helps ;-)

When I want my table to be quieter I insert some plastic pockets that I bought on Amazon that I cut down to fit . This keeps the kids from putting stuff in there as well. If I need to take it apart I'll do some work but until then, my cut in half cheap pockets work.

mine was so loud in this room , as long as i hit the balls gently, i could play all night , the difference was unreal

@@AndyM65 it seems really nice now. My slate is one piece and tough to remove without 3 people. But, the next time I do I'll be doing this! Thanks for sharing
@AndyM65
@AndyM65 3 года назад
@@fixitrod4969 best time to do it is when it needs a re cloth really , mine was only 6 foot so i managed to move the slate on my own , i just had another table to the side of it with wood blocks on to get it to the same height , then i just shifted each side over a little back and forth , i put carpet in the ball tray and hard foam up against where they hit , anyways, glad it helped someone, cheers matey

Amazing work! Can I ask what you used for the strips to direct the balls towards the exit?
@AndyM65
@AndyM65 2 года назад
thankyou , i redid the cushion rubbers , so the old rubber i used to guide the balls down the centre as it bent nicely , you can make those curves from mdf if need be, as long as you cover the edge to soften the sound , worth doing as the balls never touch the sides , glad it helps

Please let us know if you find a video that deadens noise in a larger table, especially coin-op. I've recently found that my coin-op routes balls from 6 plastic ramps like yours into a metal version down the middle, then into a similar metal collector to send all balls toward the window (where there's more noise). I wonder if that means that balls are harder than metal?
@AndyM65
@AndyM65 3 года назад
you could just replace the inside with plastic runners like mine , mine was a 6 foot table , same size as a coin op , internally and externally , unless your talking about an american pool table size ? depends if you still want to run it as a coin op table mind , but yeah metal runners are loud , that's part of the reason why i bought a free play table
@raygrinders3918
@raygrinders3918 3 года назад
@@AndyM65 Like I hinted before, these metal runners make me want to replace them if only to stop the balls from hitting sharp metal corners! I'll have to experiment to see how much quieter plastic would be. I'm not using the 8-foot's coin-op features, but all the balls go to the same end of the table and to do that I routed them through the cue ball separator, including two noisy 90-degree turns. I like your gates but I don't know if I have obvious places to mount them; slowing down the balls raises the prospect of them stalling somewhere else.
@AndyM65
@AndyM65 3 года назад
@@raygrinders3918 hehe yeah i get you , i'd wanna change them too , metal can't be good for the balls over time i would of thought , hell i'd be using plastic downpipes and guttering ;-) , good luck but it's a nice challenge for you

Some carpet underlay would do the trick
@AndyM65
@AndyM65 3 года назад
no not really , it has to be very smooth for them to flow , the ramp at the far end of the table is very shallow to start with, table protector is about the best you can do it with , with enough to cushion the sound , the sides however , you can use whatever

Where can I get these parts? Interested in doing the same thing
@AndyM65
@AndyM65 3 года назад
hi Jon , well ebay for most of it if not all , 100mm webbing , 6mm foam sheet , 8mm or 10mm camping bed mat , you only need small amounts really , something for the main ramp , but it has to be smooth ish , i used a table protector cover , lino would work but it makes it noisy again although not as bad as how they come , worth doing as it's mad quiet ;-) enjoy

Does the webbing go on top of the foam on the ball runs ? Could you send a link for the materials you used please Great job 👍👍
@AndyM65
@AndyM65 2 года назад
yes the webbing will sit on top of the foam , the foam basically is just to fill the gap , then the thinner layer of foam will sit flat over it all , then the webbing to tidy it all off and make it roll nicer , maybe a little dab of hot glue just to hold it in place if it needs it ..... i don't have any links as i can't remember where i got them from , but they are available and easy to get , i used 8 or 10 mm foam from a campbed mat and cut it down , the thinner foam was around 4mm to 5mm , and that was for a radiator backing originally, as it had a silver reflective side , but this foam could be any thickness really , just get the thinnest campbed mat thickness you can find for that part , 6mm would be ok ....and the webbing was just a 4inch (100mm) wide roll , also easily available on ebay .....the thin mat for the main ramp was a table protector cloth , that does need to be something without to heavy a pattern on it though , especially if the ramp is quite shallow like mine was ....but it's all worth doing as the table becomes silly quiet ....good luck mr ..... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143893273232?hash=item2180b51a90:g:XkIAAOSwnHZYVupz www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255177050819?hash=item3b69bccac3:g:YNYAAOSwAlJelIia www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152924349037?hash=item239b00626d:g:FAAAAOSw2VhalUyW ...... you will find cheaper, this is just a guide matey , hope this helps

@@pilquin oh thought i'd say , you don't have to run the foam all the way down the rail , just where the ball drops down to it, when the ball is rolling it's quiet anyway with the webbing, you dont need as much foam as you think , good luck mr
