As salemcripple commented, trains used to have that setup. I used to see--and smell--the results of that sort of toilet on the R-R tracks in my hometown all the time. I just saw the inside of a restored caboose and saw the infernal contraption all ready to use, except for a plexiglass sheet put under the seat by the restorers to prevent anyone from trying it out for themselves. LOL!
I remember when the toilet was flushed you could see the tracks below. Everything was dumped out. This was on passenger trains. Walking along the tracks back then toilet paper was not an unusual sight.
Jeezuz! This is barely one step above an old fashioned hole-in-the-ground outhouse (it looks to be about on par with intercity bus commodes). You'd think that with all the compressed air on a locomotive, they could at least provide a pressurized water supply to give the thing a strong, positive flush action--would probably save water, too.
last time i rode an amtrak that had those on it was back in the 90's. And the cars were probably from the 70's/80's. We weren't allowed to use the toilet while the train was in the station either lol.
Ever ride on an old amtrak? Their toilets did that. You could literally see the track whizzing by when you flushed the toilets. They got in trouble for environmental concerns, and too many people where getting a face full of shit when the train when past.
This is a recirculating toilet. The waste goes into the holding tank below and it is pumped up to be flushed again, it appears that it doesn't use chemicals and I have a felling that IT REEKS!
If they didn't use chemicals there would be outbreaks of all sorts of diseases across railroads. So I have a feeling they need to use chemicals or it would be a violation of health & safety protocols almost everywhere.
Well, cleaner than most gas stations, er service stations, uh mini markets that sell gasoline and diesel, sans any mechanical help for your car or truck.
They probably do, it's that the plastic bowl is also blue. Or the juice they use is clear. They must use chemicals otherwise yoh'd likely have outbreaks of diseases on engines everywhere.
@csx7006 Our union and the carrier does not give a fuck about us. These toilets are probably worse than the bags. They are so bad, I took a video of one that was dirty and youtube took it down for disgusting content :(
Oh and one time it never got emptied. Like Porta-potties does they suck out the bad. It was overflowing with every turn we took. It was nasty. Pee was getting all in the floor and the smell was terrible.
