Find the LINK to the Poor Man's Hobo Stove build video below. Today, I made a couple of mods and then really put the stove to the test. 1) I covered the side ventilation hole with expanded metal to keep embers from falling out and increased the size of the holes in the elevated floor. 2) I used the ashes from the stove to make a cotton terry cloth fire roll and only used forward strokes to get the ignition! The ignited fire roll lit up the Pine Needles, sticks, and batonned White Oak. 3) I made coffee and 3 hard boiled eggs then ate them with the leftover green beans that came from the 38oz can of green beans that this stove was made from. “Real good”, he says shovelling fork after fork of beans…. Lol…. As if that was needed saying. Thanks for the video David, very informative as usual… Just a quick question, there was a bird call early in the video, do you know what type of bird it was please?
Hey brother! I just came across your channel tonight and I have loved it! I really appreciate the praises for our Lord and His great love and mercy for us! Also I have learned new skills that I will definitely be putting into practice. I appreciate you and your work that you put into the videos. May the Lord bless you and keep you, may He make His face to shine upon you and give you peace. Blessings!
Smiles! Fire roll techniques are fascinating... I like easy! Seeing the Pine Needles, or so they looked, reminds me the best sleeps I've EVER had in 66+ years, were all on pine needle beds... off subject!
I saw a cheap knife at Walmart called a "bait knife" under $3. In the fishing department. Looks like a Mora with a black handle. You might want to give it a try. Take care David
Dude, those eggs were perfect! I love watching your videos. I know I've said it before, but thank you. I've learned so much from you. I hope you have a nice day!
Wow! I'm so impressed with everything you did! Definitely going to start learning more from your other videos too. New Subscriber here. And thank you for praying out loud. I watch another channel and I appreciate that he (as a bushcrafter) bows his head. But it's much better to hear the praise out of your mouth and hear your sincerity! Thank you! 😊
I love that say your prayers before eating. I grew up praying before meals growing and slowly got away from it as my own kids have gotten into so many activities after school. Thank you for the reminder- we will be saying our prayers tonight with dinner. Have a great night fire ninja!
He provides the food on our tables, that last breath we just took, and last beat of our heart. He deserves at the very least thanks... more deserving, though, of honor, praise, and worship.
How long would a can like the one you have here last? Thanks and God bless you for sharing what you know. We all may need this info if things keep going the way they are.
You are an inspiration. Thanks for the design for a lovely little stove, I wonder if a metal door would be useful. If you wired the mesh to the inside of the hole and added a simple door to the outside, you could probably get just a bit more control on the rate of burn. I am so amazed at your ash rolling.
Hi David! This PMHS is indeed a winner! I am going to build one just for the pleasure of doing it. I noticed you said you made two previous attempts with your fire roll. What hurt you there? Wind or perhaps the terry cloth material is harder to compress? Just wondering about that.
Just like the successful fire roll almost went out, the first 2 did go out. Without rolling back and forth the roll gets so tight that it will ignite, but not be able to spread because it's too tight internally.
You just exactly summarized what I felt when I first started learning fire techniques. None of the people that I looked up to ever failed. On the contrary, they made it look like there was never even a struggle to it!!! It actually discouraged me. I figured, "I just must not have what it takes". I could have quit trying because of it. I won't do that to y'all just because of a warped and twisted ego. I don't show all my struggles due to time constraints, but you'll see enough to know the truth.
Nice - gonna give it a try! I bet you would like my wife's old time pickled string beans - just a touch salty but so good out of the jar or boiled. I like my eggs a little softer so I give one a spin on the table - like to see just a little wobble and I got a softer egg. Sometimes we will cut a hole in the middle of the bread slice - fry, drop egg in - egg in the hole with home made maple syrup.
Thanks sister... Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Luke 9:26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.
