I loved this movie so much. I actually loved it far more than I thought I would. If not for its Oscar nomination I probably would have skipped it though, because from the trailer I just didn’t think I would like it. Boy was I wrong. Perhaps me having no pre conceived expectations helped. I believe she went with her father because she wanted to know why her mother killed herself and because she wanted to see where she came from. She was there just long enough to get those answers and I was also very glad she managed to save the servants. As a historian, and fan of the novel Frankenstein, (written by a woman and considered the first science fiction book ever written) I was super intrigued by a character so unwilling to comply with the social rules of one of the most uptight periods in history. And it was hilarious. Like Frankenstein it had something to say about the contemporary society in which it was created. For Shelley that was the period of body snatchers and experiments on execution victims with electricity, which Shelley found appalling. Poor things seemed more of a commentary on societal rules, particularly in regards to women . But it did it with so much humor I was extremely entertained. Five stars here.

I'm glad you took a chance on this movie! It's so nice to see it rewarded you in your blind faith. I heartily agree it's got quite a bit of Frankenstein in its DNA for many reasons, particularly with the commentary on gender that could easily be found alongside Shelley's mother - Mary Wollenstonecraft's work "A Vindication Of The Rights Of Women".
