Pop-atheism has a fatal flaw! Let's analyze some of the thinking and tactics that go into this very popular atheistic method of scoffing as if it were a way of discovering truth. We'll look at some clips from Ricky Gervais and critique modern pop-atheism.

When I was a child, both my parents were alcoholics and my sisters and I were completely neglected. At the age of 9 yrs old, I gave my heart to the Lord, despite the fact that my father was totally anti God. I did not have "religion"forced on me. The good news is that my folks got saved years later and my dad went on to become a pastor. God is so good.

@@JaredHurley1982 It’s really difficult to see how God can be good and allow awful tragic things like children going to war to happen. But it doesn’t mean he’s not Good it just means that life’s not fair and we as humans are so very flawed and blatantly evil. This is why we need Gods grace and his abounding love so that we might be changed and that there one day might be true peace in this world. Because of the peace we have received in Christ.

@@sebastiand7952 or, that there's no trace of god, any god like Yahweh, anywhere, unless you square peg/round hole any "evidence" you come across. My point, though, is that there a special kind of arrogance, even narcissism, that is shown when one "thanks God" for the blessings in one's life, while unspeakable suffering is wrought upon our neighbors. I used to love the amazing atheist. But even as an atheist, I grew to dislike him and find him annoying. I have no doubt that atheists can be smart, but the problem is that their heart is soo tightly closed that everything seems impossible to them. Or, they believe that it's simply our emotions seeking a creator when there's no evidence of one. I was once under that school of thought, that things happened for no reason and weak people look for god to get through life. I was for 15 years. I'm a new christian. I'm glad I left it.

When my children were 2 and 4 years old, I was separated from their father. He followed Jesus and I was a proud atheist. I have told my children how the world really is and that Papa believes in invented things, like fairy tales . My big daughter just laughed and said, 'Oh, Mama Jesus is real, you just do not know that yet. But Jesus told me that this will change.' I have tried very hard to convince my children of my worldview. They also lived with me. But her faith was unshakeable. That fairy tales are just fantasy, she was always aware. 2 years I was a single parent. Meanwhile, the father of the children has spent on his knees and asked God to give him back his family. It actually happened that way, and at some point I could no longer deny Jesus' love for us.

If atheists ever bothered to learn some history, archeology, science, and could think they would save us all a lot of time. Odd how it was Bible believing Christians and Jews that spearheaded the world's first anti-slavery campaign based on what the Bible says. If atheists would flex their galaxy brains and figure out that the US kind of slavery they think of isn't condoned by the Bible. I guess staying ignorant of the details and context saves a lot of time. Time best spent commenting pointless things. It would also be great if atheists didn't ask questions they don't want answered, and have been answered. I guess it all goes back to atheists time management skills.

And, there is no irony here, I just don’t agree with winger in his argument in this video. Atheists make cogent, well articulated arguments all the time and the rebuttals are always more unsubstantiated claims. I’m not sure what Winger actually thinks would be intelligent debate since his responses are always void of any facts. At some point, an interlocutor is allowed a judgment on the intelligence of his opponent. @@chriswinchell1570 I hear you, but you’re saying nothing new. We all have our own strengths and weaknesses that are most often only exposed in certain circumstences and maybe with certain people; such is Winger. Hes not perfect, nobody is. But what I could assume from what you’ve said is that youve listened to two men talking and decided that you’ll believe the one who “won” in your mind, rather than deciding for yourself what these arguments mean to you and you personally. Thats important, cause the difference is your choice of faith. The same difference between those two men. A faith-minded person will listen to that debate and see that Winger is absolutely stuck in his Christian pov, which I admire him so much for. Its then when seeing his videos being so coherent make you wonder if “intelligence” is really the important thing here? You make him to be an idiot when he has done more reading and study than you ever could as you are now. Mike is wise, and you’d see that if you had pure intentions. But you are so, so arrogant. I’m sure that anyone who calls someone else an idiot is. And I’ll save you the explenation of the downfall of that and leaning into it. Also, it’s ironic cause its exactly what he was talking about! Literally you proved him correct. Lastly, it is so so clear you have not listened to much of Mikes vids at all! You’re like someone who’s never seen an elephant before making statements about the elephant. Before sharing his own opinions or differences to Athiesm, Catholicism or Mormonism he expresses that it is a discussion and his intentions are not to offend or damage anyone. My main issue with atheism is the fact that they insist that science backs their beliefs, when nothing can be further from the truth. I consider it similar to seeing a car and going, "I wonder what kind of soil that grew out of?" or seeing a book and wondering, "I see all these sentences conveying all this meaning, someone must have splashed a lot of ink on pages and these words magically appeared". Truth is luck can only go so far, and denial taken too far is no different from insanity.

@Richard Fox the argument isn't "it looks like it was designed therefore it was". The argument is that the probability of everything perfectly catering to life is slim to none therefore it would be logical to conclude that it must have been designed (excluding the idea of a multiverse although there is no evidence of it). Imagine for the next year i flip a coin 24/7 and it lands on heads EVERY time. We both know the probability of that is 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2 ........ which is basically zero. My view is that the coin must be rigged (aka degined to do that) while your view would be "wow what a coincidence it landed heads every time". Thats the intelligent design argument.

@Richard Fox It is not a christian teaching that evolution is fake and im sure anyone you meet that denies it are actually denying the idea that "humans are ONLY here bc of monkey" or wtv and if not they're just uneducated and aren't a proper representation of Christian beliefs outlined in the bible. Also in Genesis the word for day im pretty sure can also be used to refer to as "time period" (i think the word is "rom" but im not sure" so instead of "in the first day xyz" its actually "in the first time period" which is never specified. Also it is taught that God's perception of time is different than ours so for him it could feel like a day but for us 2 billion years. Also with our scientific understanding of biology and physics we do have sufficient understanding of what is required for life and we have calculated the odds of those requirements being met, so no life cannot just me made in different circumstances it simply doesn't agree with science. And for you to say "well our understanding of science may be wrong so we cannot draw a conclusion" is silly bc that would make you admit that you can't believe stars are hot, or gravity is what pulls things to the ground,etc bc "although thats what we believe now, our scientific understanding may change." It's a cheap excuse to deny the evidence so I hope this isn't a position you hold.

Great video, as a former agnostic and lover of science videos like this really helped me come to Christ. What really persuaded me the most was not just the fine-tuning in the universe and the Earth but in the expansion rate of our universe that if anything was off, not only would there not be any carbon-based Life as we know it, there would not even be a universe to begin with without fine precision and intervention. Also like one of the top scientist in our world former director of the Human Genome Project Dr. Francis Collins states, given all the knowledge that is out there, what we had in the past, have now and will ever have in the future, what percentage of that does the atheist have today? On that premise alone it would be illogical to conclude that God does not exist. However the evidence is one thing but what caused me to know certainly that the Creator is personal was the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The videos you did on Bible prophecy were really helpful as well.

I'm grateful for this video, I was a former snarky atheist but God saved me a year and a half ago. Before I was fully in the faith I went through arguments and points against it. I was looking through an unbiased view as I new more about Christianity at this point and soon realized a lot of atheist have no idea what they talk about. One thing I saw at one channel I used to watch was them disproving Jesus by using the whole Zeitgeist argument to disprove Jesus which I quickly realized was not true, atheists talking about "contradictions" in the Bible which also were quickly debunked when looked at in context, I also looked at some of Hitchens content (which I'm glad you mentioned) and I realized he is not a very good debater. Now I think he is a good debater in a lot of ways still, but I also noticed he also uses a lot of snarky comments to deflect and at times will interrupt his opponents while answering and noticed other atheists did this as well. I also noticed much of his fanbase rarely sites any arguments he gave when they mention him but rather just referred to his "hitch slaps." I honestly do watch debates anymore whether secular, religious, political, etc. because I honestly feel like their 25% fact and 75% emotional manipulation. I also would like to point out though that a lot of Christians get run over in debates when they encounter atheists because they sadly are just not informed on the bible or any history behind it. More Christians need to not only read and study the Bible but also get other information from other sources like your channel, Whaddo Meme's channel, NathanH83's channel and elsewhere to get more information on scripture. I hate to sound arrogant but I enjoy learning more of scripture and listening to informative Christian speakers online I have address subjects that other believers do not really seem to know about, some are more obscure so I'm not judging but a part of me is like "I've been doing this for two years you've been doing it your whole life we should not be on the same level of knowledge." (I don't know everything either obviously and never will, but do intend to keep learning) There is a song called How Deep the Father's Love for Us. I'm not a very emotional person but when they got to the line "ashamed to hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers," I am not gonna line I teared a bit cause that was how I was a long time ago and the Lord changed me and I hope he keeps working in me.

@sovereigngrace9723
@sovereigngrace9723 3 года назад
@@coopergates9680 2 This is one of those “Yes, but…” questions that require serious explaining. Leviticus 20:9 says, “If there is anyone who curses his father or his mother, he shall surely be put to death; he has cursed his father or his mother, his bloodguiltiness is upon him.” First, a note on the last part of the verse. “His bloodguiltiness is upon him” basically means that he brought this punishment on himself. He knew what he was supposed to do, and he didn’t do it. Also, it is important to remember that the Mosaic Law was for God’s covenant people, Israel, living in a theocracy. The Old Testament Law is not in force today (Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:23-25; Ephesians 2:15). Deuteronomy 21:18-21 expands on the law: If any man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father or his mother, and when they chastise him, he will not even listen to them, then his father and mother shall seize him, and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gateway of his home town. And they shall say to the elders of his city, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey us, he is a glutton and a drunkard.” Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death; so you shall remove the evil from your midst, and all Israel shall hear of it and fear. The context of a passage is crucial to understanding what it means. Taking these two verses by themselves, one could come away with a negative attitude toward God and His Word. In the Leviticus passage, this law is part of a section dealing with egregious sins, sins that would tear a nation and family apart. The trespass in question was not a casual, slip-of-the-tongue curse, but a deep-seated rebellion, an ongoing attitude of hatred that had to be dealt with severely. In other words, the punishment was not for minor infractions but for determined defiance. There are several things to keep in mind about this particular sin and about the law: The sin was ongoing and continuous. Deuteronomy 21:18 indicates that the punishment was only meted out after a persistent refusal to heed both father and mother and after all discipline had failed. The parents have tried to deal with their son in a loving, firm way, but nothing worked. It was deep-seated sin. Verse 20 specifies that the son is stubborn in his rebellion. Not only is he recalcitrant, “he is a glutton and a drunkard.” This is not a case of a child who misses curfew or plays ball in the house. This was a true menace, a child who is causing trouble in society and grieving his parents, possibly to the point of endangering them physically and financially. The punishment was not an impulsive act of anger or vengeance. Verse 19 says that the city elders had to oversee the case and determine the guilt of the child. It is only after the elders pronounced a sentence of death that the execution could take place. The law did not allow an angry parent to arbitrarily stone a child. A modern equivalent of this is when a parent sees news footage of his child committing a crime and subsequently turns the child in to the police. If parents know their child is acting in a way that endangers society, they are responsible to obey the civil authorities and report the crime. The punishment was designed to preserve the nation. As verse 21 explains, the reason for this law was to purge evil from society and act as a deterrent to further rebellion. Israel was a nation chosen by God to be holy (Exodus 20:6). God gave the Israelites three types of laws: judicial, moral, and ceremonial. This is a judicial law. A child who was actively and deliberately rejecting the laws of the land needed to be punished judicially. Which brings us to the last and most important factor: Rebellion against one’s parents is direct rebellion against God. The 5th Command is to honor one’s father and mother (Exodus 20:12). Parents are a God-ordained authority. Disobedience to parents is disobedience to God (Ephesians 6:1-3). Throughout the Bible, there are only a handful of things we are told to fear: God (Proverbs 1:7) and parents (Leviticus 19:3) are among them. The law requiring rebellious children to be stoned to death was meant for extreme cases to protect God’s people. It would have been heartbreaking for parents to bear the responsibility of initiating such severe measures. However, the Bible never records this law being enforced.

That perhaps many of us have had a real encounter with Christ, and have seen his works, and hand working in our lives. Even if there hadn’t been a personal encounter with God....look at the intricate details of everything created. Dan Delgado I’ve seen many tragedies in my life time, some that happened to myself however we live a life of free Will and that free will effects the world around us regardless of how we dismiss our choices or our intentions. ( directly and indirectly) Sometimes the result of that free will ends in horrible and heinous scenarios. This is the result of our sin nature in the midst of our choices and we only have ourselves to blame. The human species is guilty, not a single person can claim innocence. The beauty however is that God, can turn what was destructive into something that brings new life. Because our minds can not grasp or witness each and every scenario globally or have the understanding of a larger picture in the same manner God does, we cannot judge with or subjective bias as what seems fair or witness every single intervention he orchestrates. A second point, God calls us to help those who are orphaned, widowed and poor, etc. There are many ministries that are out there serving people in various demographics from women and children who are trapped in sex trafficking, to building homes for those who are in need, serving the hungry at soup kitchens etc. You cannot complain, with passivity and criticize God if you yourself are not willing to intervene for the very issues to condemn him for. He uses people to help others if they are willing to be used. Instead it is much easier for the majority of people to stay comfortable and live lives pleasing to themselves. Just some points to think about. I know where you are coming from. We all have to ask ourselves these questions to be able to have genuine faith in Him. Bless you.

When I was an atheist I had zero interest in explaining my reasons or convincing anyone to my way of thinking. What's the point of that? I knew I had only one life to live and when it was over, it was over. It made every day, every hour incredibly valuable to me because it was the only life I was gonna have. Why would I spend one single breath or any mental energy to try to make someone believe like me? In the end, who cares? The universe doesn't care. The only thing that makes sense is to use my time to grab as much pleasure as I can, and convincing someone that I'm right about my lack of belief in God is not very high on the list... in fact it's not even ON the list. So when an atheist takes time to explain their view, it reveals that this *matters* to them. But why? How can it matter enough to use any of the precious hours of the only life you have to try to get someone ELSE to believe anything? As a Christian, I care very much. And the Christian faith cannot be compared to ISIS. Christmas presents are given by people who love you to celebrate God loving us.Easter is the celebration of Jesus rising from the dead, the most important of all celebrations. Easter egg hunts are just fun and mom and dad even put money or candy in them. We had married kids in their 20’s who had a blast participating! They were poor college students. Lol. Mike Winger, I think the reason atheists are angry at "God" is in part because of their view of unfairness or injustice or evil which exists. They point accusingly at God in judgement of Him and in doing so demands that He fix the world He created. God’s simple reply is to point at the cross in response, saying, “I did. What did you do?” The world sees suffering and claims this points to no God; God sees that suffering and says, “I have a plan. What’s yours?” If an atheist truly believes there is no God, then their judgment against Him is misplaced or misguided, rather it must be directed toward the Christian who believes in God. And this I can understand. The questioning of how a person could believe and tell others they must believe in a God that instructs them to commit genocide is rather a good thing (yet this ignores understanding the reasons as to why God did this). But turns out this also cannot be done because an atheist’s morality can only extend to their own thoughts and actions and not put upon others, or in this case God, because they don't believe in objective morality, this is to say God could do whatever He wishes and because atheists believe in subjective or relative morality they could not judge His action or motives against their standard of morality. If they are truly angry with God and His action or non-action, then they aren’t truly an atheist but more of an angry theist. The argument go something like this: 1) There is no God or I can’t believe in God because there is pain in the world; 2) I can’t believe in God because people go to hell; 3) I can’t believe in God because there is suffering. These lead to the next curious objection of the atheist or self-described atheist: I am angry at God because there is war and innocent people die; I am angry at God because there is starvation in the world. This person is in effect saying, “The God I don’t believe in wouldn’t let these things happen.” So is it that they don’t believe God exists or are angry at God, and, therefore, don’t wish to admit they believe in a God they don’t understand? This is much like me saying, “I don’t believe in the Easter bunny” and then getting mad at the Easter bunny for not giving Easter eggs to everyone in the world and not allowing everyone to go to Easter bunny heaven. How can a being I do not believe in be held responsible for all of the things which I don’t consider fair? It turns out there are very few dictionary-defined atheists in the world. Most people confuse “I don’t believe God exists” with “I don’t believe in God because”. These are two completely different claims but a distinction of great importance. One is a belief that God or gods don’t exist while the other stems from the idea that because pain and suffering are in the world, I can’t or don’t believe in a God who would allow this.

You're entirely quick, and presumptive, to declare how atheists feel, and what they believe, especially given that their position is one of reason rather than feeling and consists entirely in *not believing.* They don't point at someone who does not exist, nevermind presume to know their sentiments. Share with us, your reasons you choose to be an atheist.

I am an atheist. I can tell you I have 100% never EVER been angry at god because I don’t believe one exists.

Ricky needs Jesus...he was raised in a Christian home but his mum couldn't explain her faith so he said he became an atheist. I remember hearing him say this in an interview and just read it in an article. While listening to your show I had my Bible open and I just looked up and say the scripture Philippians 2:10 that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE SHOULD Bow, of those who are in heaven, and on the earth, under the earth, and that every tongue would confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Lets all PRAY for Ricky!

I'm just getting started and I wonder if I will be able to make a companion video for Pop-theism. I'll calmly and thoughtfully think through it.

Speaking as a former Atheist. The only religious vs Atheist debate where there is little to no ridicule is the...... Bill Nye and Ken Ham creation debate. Bill Nye seemed genuine and only want is to educate. Similar to my Biology teacher who was Atheist but acclaimed to be religious so people would open up to the science he teaches. Not only that my Biology teacher invited challenge and reminded us many times that the people who discovered large facts of science where religious. Coming down to your level and listen and share is essential.
