This wraps up the little camper conversion series. It's been a fun little project over the last 14 or so months. It towed just fine today and handled highway speeds without any issues.
Thanks for taking a look!

I gotta ask. Did you register it as home made? and, did you have to weigh it in order to register? Here in NY, our DMV can be snarly. thanks JIM WT2W

Hi James. Thank you. That's the plan!

@@jamesmeyer9563 It's just the same registration as it was when it was a pop up. The weight is close to where it was before actually (the roof, pull outs front and back, crank up posts, and all of that canvas was pretty heavy).

@@drez20001 Great... If you look me up on QRZ you'll a photo of my planned build. I'm having fun. 5x10 with 3/4" insulated floor, done. Strictly Boondock, no shore power.

Once I found your videos last night, I continued with them until today so I could finish them. I decided to forego the Commanders game to complete your films. In two words, "fantastic job". Thanks for doing what I have wanted to do for some time. I've watched you easily solve some problems that I may have if I can do one as well. Thanks for posting and sharing. Regards.

@@drez20001 I wondered if u caulked the inside panels at the bottom and decided not to insulate? Do the original tires handle the heavier camper 4 long travel at highway speeds? Ths!

Thank you so much for the inspiring videos. You have done what I was thinking and pondering about as I just acquired a base of a popup trailer for cheap. Now its time to get building! I will share some photos when I am done with my project. Once again thanks for the inspiration and I think you build looks awesome and cozy! Cheers!

Yeah, that space was a joy. It wasn't mine, it belonged to a family member and I got to use it for a few years. Not anymore though.

Just now found all these videos...great job. I was wondering how much does the finished project weight? I've thought of doing something like this with lighter material to pull with my new Ford Maverick Hybrid..but can only pull max 2000 pounds, Thanks

I too am planning something similar and like you, I need it lightweight because I plan on buying a Maverick hybrid. I was gifted a pop-up that's already been gutted so I am starting with a very bare unit. Good luck with yours.

I am getting ready to convert a pop-up to a hard side and I was wondering how well your camper did not the road. Is it still going? Would love an update. :)

It was a fun project I did mostly during the lockdown period. As to be expected it was not great on the road but didn't scare me. I put it at a local campground and used it for a year or two. It's still there but not being used. Best of luck on your project.

has this been approved by DOT? I would say you've probably exceeded the legal axle weight for a frame intended to carry canvas, fibreglass and foam, not glass and wood. Might seem fine now but it''s going to be a sad day if someone is hurt when the suspension fails
