THANK YOU! I love to make moving pop up cards and you have taught me a lot with your easy explanations. again THANK YOU! I make cards for my friends and the xtra ones I give away to kids in hospitals, so I'm always looking for pop up cards which are the ones I love.

Thank you so much. I think you have excellent teaching skills. Plus, this is something I looked for in a long time. How do you learn all these things? Trial and error or through pop-up books? Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Ignoigno. I also searched for a tutorial about this for a long time but never found it so I just did it myself. You probably do a lot of the same things I do to get answers. I watch videos and look at books and examples but if I can't find an answer to my question, I just do a lot of trial and error combining what I know with how other things work. You may have seen my 'pull tab spinner fail' (livestream) where I thought it would work if I just turned the wheel hub with a string. I was so ashamed about that failure that I set the video replay to 'unlisted'. I'll go ahead the re-set that to 'public' in case you wanted to see how miserable my attempts can be. But for every failed attempt, I learn something new so that helps a lot. I spent the next few days looking at videos about anything that turns on a belt (like pulleys and fans) and I applied some of what I gleaned to my paper mechanism design until I came up with something that finally worked for me. That's what my videos are really about, I'm just sharing what works for me.

Thanks for the reply. I don't think you should feel bad about failing in the live stream video. It's better to view things as they really are - stepping stones to your goal. No baby learns to walk without stumbling. So I really think it's educational if you make this video available. I really appreciate every smallest source of knowledge about these stuff and the effort that goes into preparing them because I can add on them. As the saying goes (attributed to Isaac Newton), "If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants". So please keep sharing anything you can. You enrich the lives of others. Thanks again for all the videos you post on your channel. An example is this pull tab spinner. I think it's closest to this technique I wanted to apply: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_zpfb9f2eDg.html

I think it's a really cool technique. You can see my comments there asking Rob Kelly to reveal it. He may soon post a tutorial on it. This is another example of his wonderful invention: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-c23UxzA10ME.html

Wow, that train is cool. Duncan Birmingham of the Popup Channel made a tutorial showing how to make an automatic pull tab so I think that's how this train pull tab was created, combined with a wheel. I noticed that the train didn't make a full revolution around the center axis so it may be made to turn with a different mechanism other than a string but I don't know for sure. I'm not finished with experimenting with the wheel just yet.

Would this work on a larger scale? I want to pull the tab and make it look like items are going into a basket?

Sorry for the delayed response. I've never tried it on a larger scale but why not?

Is there a way to hide the string?
@SquareType

The string is hidden in the back of the card where the pull tab is sitting.
