It's a southern thing, but growing up in Mobile AL and even now, I try really hard to not use phrases like "y'all" or "fixing to" when conversing with people that are from different areas. I was always told to speak properly when not talking to friends and especially when it was work related. So from my viewpoint, even if they were southern, they shouldn't have used slang or ebonics on a professional outlet. It comes off as uneducated.
