The national dish is a chicken tikka masala. It was created by a south Asian guy living in the UK and is more popular than fish n chips. Doner kebab is actually more popular than fish n chips here too
Leave it to a american to find the worst kind ever. Also its always eaten vinegar and salt! Unless youre eating australian style then with tartar. but yeah.
£18 for that was a rip off. There should be a big shell of batter that is light and crunchy, with shards of batter coming off it. The fish itself should be bigger. There should be bog-standard government-issue curry sauce, and the only veg should be mushy peas mixed with mint. The chips should be just the nicest chips you can imagine.
I went to Poppies in Soho a couple of weeks ago. Haddock and chips twice, one pickled egg, curry sauce and two pints of Hells. Came to almost £70.00. The fish fillet was less than a cm thick, very few chips. The curry sauce was almost certainly a rehydrated powdered packet affair. Overall very disappointed. Sadly they appear to be resigned to the passing tourist trade which means they count on your ignorance. Head almost anywhere within North Yorkshire to Hedben Bridge for the real thing. Ottley, Pudsey, Lower Wortley, Bradford, Whitby, York, Scarborough, Skipton, Mallaig (Scotland). Anywhere but London!
Seeing you man handle that fish! 😢 The mushy peas take a while to get used to I'll admit but when they're done right they're really good as an accompaniment!
our portions are smaller and although a lot of English are overweight we arn't as huge and obese as Americans are and we don't put anywhere near as many additives and chemicals in our food, good gracious look at what's in McDonald's English fries compared to the good 'ol USA! And what about American chocolate? who wants chocolate that tastes like dog-sick?
Jesus fucking christ those prices are ridiculous, what a rip off, also the uk doesnt know how to make real fish n chips, if you want real fish n chips, head to new Zealand or Australia we just do it better over there.
