Populous and God Games - Spacehamster 

Tried to make a drinking game. Every time SpaceHamster left an awkward pause or mocked his own humor I made my roommate take a shot. Cause I don't drink. But anyway, now I have a dead body and I need help getting rid of it.

Hey, SH, I'm really tired of how people keep telling you your a copy of PBG. I know your styles are really similar, and you have a lot of the same fans. But imitation is the best form of complimenting someone. I'm gonna start a RU-vid channel that's similar to either your kind of video or like danisnotonfire. But I think your interesting and unique. So even though your similar to PBG. I'm not gonna say your a copy. Keep on keeping on, Space.

Spore was a horrible failure; thanks to EA. EA forced Spore out (cash grab) before it was finished, and stripped a great multitude of features out so they could make expansions later ("The Sims" model). Spore was dumbed down severely to appeal to a wider audience: Simplification of each stage, especially tribal and cell. Removal of the verb system (where you could do one thing while doing another thing and the game made sense of it, such as biting a body then walking to drag the body). Removal of blood, dismemberment, switching style to highly cartoony instead of realistic, all to reduce the rating and again, appeal to a wider audience. And of course, interacting with primitive species once you've advanced to the space/UFO stage was basically removed. The card collecting/scanning features were gutted. The Space stage was turned into a very linear and predictable pseudo-story mode, and the galaxy itself was turned into just a map, rather than something that was designed and felt like space. The physics based creatures were replaced with "generic animations", and the biology based strength systems were replaced with a minimalistic stat system. Galactic Adventures and Creepy&Cute expansions won't even link to my Spore account on Steam because EA shut down the servers. I've owned Darkspore for like two years and I still haven't been able to run the bloody thing because EA sucks so hard that scientists would mistake them for a black hole! EA can go rot in a vomit-lined hole filled with moldy buffalo diarrhea and fire ants.

Would Smite be considered a god game?

I played so much Age of Mythology as a kid. It wasn't just spending hours fighting other civilizations, you got to reenact the stories of Greek Demi gods and learn about Egyptian and Norse mythology. He showed a clip at the end, but I thought it showed a unique experience as you could choose your civilization style.

Populous: The Beginning was my childhood, man. I need to replay it. I just love it. Dungeon Keeper 2 was up there too. Bullfrog were just the best at these kind of games. Also you used one of my music suggestions. Nice one! :D

Spore. Why did you not talk about Spore? Just a question. I'm not trying to sound hateful.

My fave level was where you first get the preacher. I only had 4 people in total. and i set up 2 preachers at both ways to get into my village. If you get in close enough to your village but just far out enough to troll the enemy units to come at you. You just watch as you beat the game through overwhelming force. The other village does have preachers too...but they're in the middle of the enemy village. So by the time they start countering you, theres already too many converted for them to deal with and they just get owned.

I love Simcity Buildit, so addicting... And do you guys got that peaceful feeling just watching your city grows? And every while and then, you just provide them the stuffs they need, but they are the one who solve the problems directly... Just a thought of mine.

Little hint for anyone who wants to play Populous II: Turn the game speed WAY down. It still hasn't aged that well, but the DOS version (which was featured) gave me some fun back in my more childish days.

Your gripes with the game aren't really justified when you play what appears to be no further than level 5 of the single player campaign. There are 25 levels, and then there's multiplayer; which still has an active community today.

I think you try a bit too hard to be funny SpaceHamster.(This is meant only as constructive criticism) But, you are still pretty cool. Edit: Elaboration. Your jokes sound very, for lack of a better term, "unnatural". It feels like you're trying to much to be PBG, or JonTron. I would suggest just playing the game, and seeing what comes to mind. Also, try and develop a more unique personality.

Really impressed you included Utopia. I used to play it on the the Intellevision and I remember it fondly. Great video!

I have Simcity on my iPad mini. It's okay. But one major flaw is instead of doing anything, you have to wait. A lot. Most of the time I'm sitting down, waiting for an item to finish being created. But, I know many people will disagree with me, and that's fine, just say why.

Oh man! I used to play Populous the beginning 24-7! I beat the game 4 or 5 times, went out of my way making sure i did everything like converting cavemen and building as much houses as i can fit on the first level. So many memories it hurts

I played Populous the Beginning so many times over. Last time I played it through it took me one session for all levels lol. Usually I'm a max army max tower player lol. I remember all the spells.

Populous the begining was my favorate game growing up. The sound from the totem was eargasmic to me. I guse you had your sound efects up high because it was never a problem for me.

*Populous: The Beginning* was my first godsim game. I graduated to *Age of Empires* and then finished with *Rise of Nations* before I felt too old for computer games... Recently though, I've been going back to my childhood and downloading emulators.

I liked to have matches of Age of Mythology with "treaty" times so that both players can build pretty cities. I can really relate to a lot of what you were saying at the end. A lot of good games were shown through this video XD

One of the greatest God Games I've played is Banished. I'll spare you the details but basically depending on your difficulty you have a number if families and supplies to build your new life.

omg i do the same thing in any rts where you just build up a shit ton of forces, it just feels good to launch everything in there and just crush everthing!:D

I love the Civilization games because of the fact that the player seems to have control over the game, but in reality, the user has little control over the game aside from a few aspects. It's like playing a game where you play as gods from various mythologies and lead over the people and HOLY POOBUCKETS THAT SOUND AWESOME.

for povulous, i remeber me and my cousin used to play alot of, i dont mind the noise when you get a new spell, it fits quite well and it actually awesome

I loved Utopia for the SNES. Took some time to get right but, it ended up being a lot of fun.

Still play Populous 3 to this da. My first copy was for PS1, where it would take an hour to save/load and occupy the entire 15 blocks on a memory card, not to mention controlling the cursor, pre-analogue sticks.

11:31 Wow Pharaoh now that was a great game, and I'm also a huge fan of Populous.

The only game related to this that I liked and played all the time was the Nations. There were weird clans you could choose from to control (from Amazon people to insect people), but it was still a really fun game.
