A tour de force....

Lyrics:
A good impression of myself
Not much to conceal
I'm saying nothing
But I'm saying nothing with feel
I simply am not here
No way I...
Shut up, be happy
Stop whining please
Because of who we are
We react in mock surprise
The curse of "there must be more"
So don't breathe here,
Don't leave your bags
I simply am not here
No way I...
Shut up, be happy
Stop whining please
The dust in my soul
Makes me feel the weight in my legs
My head in the clouds
And I'm zoning out
I'm watching TV
But I find it hard to stay conscious
I'm totally bored
But I can't switch off
Only apathy from the pills in me
It's all in me, all in you
Electricity from the pills in me
It's all in me, all in you
Only MTV, cod philosophy
We're lost in the mall
Shuffling through the stores like zombies
What is the point?
What can money buy?
My hand's on a gun
And I find the range, God tempt me
What did you say?
Think I'm passing out
[x2]
Only apathy from the pills in me
It's all in me, all in you
Electricity from the pills in me
It's all in me, all in you
Only MTV, cod philosophy
Water so warm that day (water so warm that day)
I counted out the waves (I counted out the waves)
As they broke into shore
I smiled into the sun
The water so warm that day
I was counting out the waves
And I followed their short life
As they broke on the shoreline
I could see you
But I couldn't hear you
You were holding your hat in the breeze
Turning away from me in this moment
You were stolen as black across the sun
Water so warm that day (water so warm that day)
I counted out the waves (I counted out the waves)
As they broke into shore (as they broke into shore)

It's the true masterful musicianship of this band that makes their performances so dominating, creative, and original. As a drummer myself, Gavin Harrison is absolutely captivating with his unique style and fills, and a true treat to watch.

I had a similar reaction to PT first time I heard them, and I actually did not buy their albums until maybe a year later because I knew I would go too deeply into it. But I finally did and they consumed my world, an amazing experience to find such a band.

You can really tell Porcupine Tree was a labor of love for these guys, and in my opinion when Wilson was musically at his most creative was with this band. I was always a little sad they were never more popular. I saw them live when they toured this very album in Sydney years ago, it was a different vibe for a concert then i was used to, but really, really cool. This song imo is the definitive PT song, really a masterpeice. Glad you decided to review it and enjoyed it :)

Man, I remember when I discovered Porcupine Tree back when I was 16. I was just looking out at the clouds while listening to Sentimental, completely in a trance...The album (fear of a blank planet) almost brings be to tears everytime I listen to it now. Gavin Harrison is also my influence, hero and inspiration when it comes to drumming.

Arriving somewhere but not here is musically brilliant, but lyrically it doesn't carry the same meaning as Anesthetize. For something close to this one, I feel, I'd say Heartattack in a Layby, but Steven Wilson solo has a couple that approach this one, at least. I'd say Drive Home, The Raven that Refused to Sing. And Routine. Specially the one performed by Ninet.

Anesthetize is the first song I heard from them and it became my favourite song (and band) ever. I didn't believe my ears the first time I heard it. Everything about that song is so good : Alex Lifeson's (who's for me the best guitar player ever) solo in the studio version, Gavin Harrison's drumming, beautiful lyrics, Steven Wilson's voice... And I love FOABP album in its globality, all the songs are good and connect to eachother, it's a real concept album, I love it so much.

You were really brave to react to this as the first song from them, ahah. You should really react to Trains (live), also from Porcupine Tree. Porcupine Tree are the band that led me into prog music. Steven Wilson is my favourite songwriter ever. not the best singer nor the best guitarist, but damn, he put so much feel in what he's doing that you can almost feel it as yours. i'm going to see him too in February, in Milan. i have been looking forward to a show of him for like 4 years. i'm really happy that you enjoyed this. the album "Fear Of A Blank Planet" should always be enjoyed in his entirety, imho. good job as always :D

This song is so brilliant, so magnificently performed, and the moment she dies is just brilliant and conveys the whole meaning of the song and the album itself. Anesthetize could be the name of the album, and it could be the only song and it would still be just as powerful. This is a brilliant masterwork with very few equals.

Man I gotta thank you for this video. I'm a Dream Theater and Symphony X fan, I love progressive metal and I always heard a lot of good stuff about Porcupine Tree but this is the first song I listen to and I really can't thank you enough for making this video. I finally found a new band worthy of a musical ear. I've been watching your reaction videos for some time and now, after this video, I subscribed and you got yourself a new loyal follower. Thank you and I wish you all the best.

You should try Symphony X - Odyssey they don't have pro live videos but this song is perfect if you haven't heard them before. It's about 24 mins so you'll go on an absolutely beautiful journey listening to the epic story of the Odyssey in a neoclassical progressive power metal way so I certainly recommend listening to it or maybe making a reaction video for it.

Kudos to you Ruben for a brilliant idea for a RU-vid post. I found watching you take in this performance by my beloved Porcupine Tree a welcome change of pace. My amphibian cohort and I found this band about 1 1/2 years ago so we are not far removed from our first experience of our first listen. I rarely love a song or band with the first time hearing them. It takes repeated plays and study of each member before I am won over but PT was an exception. I was blown away by "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here" also from the Tilburg concert as my first exposure. I immediately researched the band and was disappointed to find they were no longer together. However , they were quite prolific during their time together and left a large library for us to pull from. They have been my favorite band since that fateful first time and I have still not made it all the way through their library. I follow Steven Wilson and any project he has a hand in. You have an awful lot of good music ahead of you if the PT bug bites and infects you as it did us. Thanks for posting this original viewing and Best wishes to you. Oh, and the drummer is something to watch. I am not usually a drummer enthusiast but Gavin is the best I have seen in memory. I subscribed to your channel and look forward to viewing more of your videos as well as sharing them on Google Plus with my friends. Peace, Love, Great Tunes, and laughter to you and yours, always....jack

Amazing song, the live version is better than the studio version (as is with a lot of PT-Songs). Generally, PT and Steven Wilson are very much worth looking into. Such a great musician! Seen him live three times and it is just absolutely amazing! PT are on some sort of hiatus, unfortunately, so no chance of seeing them in the near future. :( Other great PT-Songs would be: Arriving somewhere but not here, Trains, Time flies, Way out of here... And many more! Keep up the great videos :)

I've not had the pleasure of seeing Steven Wilson live, but I have been fortunate enough to see Porcupine Tree twice. Once opening for Opeth on the Damnation tour, and once opening for Yes. Both times they completely stole the show. By far the best live band I have ever seen. Always unbelievably tight. If you like Steven Wilson and Opeth (especially the mellower, proggier Opeth) then I HIGHLY suggest checking out their collaboration on the amazing Storm Corrosion record. It's unlike anything by either of them and at the same time quintessentially both. It's fantastic.

Luckily I got to see Porcupine Tree live before they called it quits, and I have seen Steven Wilson. Both were fantastic experiences. Btw I really liked your reaction, and totally understand what you say. It really is a lot to take in at once, so many details, so much emotion. But at least my appreciation of this song has not decreased since the first time I heard it. I loved it immediately and still do. I also like the fact that you seem really open minded about music. Expanding ones horizon is a good thing. Keep doing that! Next you need to react to some Haken, really any song they have. Pareidolia is a good start, or Earthrise if you want a really uplifting happy song. Or Deathless if you want another really emotional song.

Don't fret too much about not seeing Porcupine Tree as you can still see Steven Wilson in concert. Porcupine Tree started off as a Steven Wilson solo project as he writes all the music and lyrics for the band. He just calls it a band as it always features the same band members who help produce the music and tour at the time. Much in the same vein as The Devin Townsend Project as DT primarily spear heads his group. Speaking of Devin Townsend. I got to see his live show for the first time two days ago in Melbourne. What a class act he is and a great show he puts on. The support act Sleepingmakeswaves was impressive too. Please...Please....Please react to Ayreon - The Day That The World Breaks Down . Based on your enjoyment of listening to Octavarium and In the Name of God by Dream Theater, you should listen to a live version of the song Trial of Tears by them. It is probably one of my favorite songs by any band and the live version from their live album's Live at Budokan or Breaking the Fourth Wall are both fantastic. The last four minutes in particular are incredible and the lyrics are among Dream Theater's best so I would suggest reading the lyrics through the listen. Good stuff with the videos so far and keep it up! Also, the guitar solo on Anesthetize was a guest solo by none other than Rush's Alex Lifeson. Apparently Alex Lifeson stated publicly he was a Porcupine Tree fan. Steven Wilson heard about it and asked him if he would play on the album, so the two got in touch and worked their magic on the song.

hello Ruben !! ' This song by Porcupine Tree is incredible, I recommend 100% that you make a reaction to a song by them that has a lot of Feeling, for my taste, their choruses are great, and I know you like melodies that give you chills, like this trying to find his "Shemovedon" truck from his 2000 Lightbulb Sun album ..... Greetings from Chile Dude!
