You reacted the EXACT way I first heard this song. Like I wanted more. You got it on the first listen! Enjoy the rest of their catalogue as well as Steven Wilson’s solo stuff. It’s life changing.
Great reaction, man! This song is a really great intro point to Porcupine Tree, although as everyone has told you, they are really diverse. I kind of agree with those suggesting Anesthetize to check some point in the future, but I'd go with something poppier (like Piano Lessons) or more psychedelic/atmospheric (Waiting phase one and two). Anyways, also loved the touch of your TDH poster on the background (besides the shirt).
Welcome to Porcupine Tree. I believe you'll really enjoy the journey of discovery. I would recommend listening to live versions of their songs when you're able. Their live performances are simply beyond description. Have fun!!
You should check out the band OSI. The drummer from Porcupine Tree, Gavin Harrison, plays on their last two albums, and Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater played on their first ones. It's some really cool stuff. Steven Wilson, the vocalist for PT here, even sings in the song Shutdown.
If you like songs with acoustic parts mixed with heavier sections you should check out Aqualung or Locomotive Breath from Jethro Tull from the 70's. Video versions from Madison Square Garden 1978 or the live versions from the Bursting Out Album. Short Version of Thick as a Brick from either is worth a watch or listen
Yea.. definitely a lot of variety even within some songs. I'd say recommendation credit was more from Gregory Michna. He was the most positive about that one as a recommendation! :) This song actually didn't stand out to me as much at first, but I like it even more now.
Gavin Harrison is one of the greatest drummers out there right now. In my opinion there isn’t a better drummer when it comes to dynamics and musicality. His mastery of odd times is incredible. Huge influence!!No, Gavin Harrison is not a good drummer. He is anexcellent drummer and musician. Gavin has exceptional chops, outstanding groove and a musical ear second to none. He is simply outstanding Dont even get me started on steven Wilson my favourite musician i also think hes the best gutairist ive heard hes doesnt know alot but the amount he does and the emotion he brings to the gutair is amazing. I feel pt songs are more important and more memorable. His solo work feels to complex for my liking but st the same times its better than anthing on the radio ever hahaYou should probably do "trains" live next Simply because its most peoplez favorite song and mine to its not long so it won't scare you away or anything. You cant go wrong with any of them. ariving somewhere but not here is incredible, blackest eyes, hatesong live, deadwing, Going back to Steven's solo group the song "drive home" has an amazing solo at the end most beutifull thing ive ever heard by the guy Guthrie govan steven toured with on the raven that refused to sing album. Also Richard barberari the keyboard player lol not how you spell it is the one of the most important parts of Porcupine Tree's sound he doesn't knowalot like a traditional keyboader but you know what he does. Look at songs like Sleep Together, Buying New Soul or Dark Matter. Last but not least colin edwin the bassist is such a nice guy hes incredible
Man, you should check out Arriving somewhere but not here live its brilliant and Anesthetize live both really should off what makes porcupine tree so brilliant
Great song from a great band! And since you are exploring the "prog world", I suggest you to react to "Restless" by the Norwegian band "Leprous" You will not regret it! Excellent musicians! And Einar Solberg is a hell of a vocalist!
Lol everyone is requesting anestitize and its an extraordinary piece. I would pick things that I think people could get into easily and then they can get into the stuff that may be a little harder to understand at first.
LOve it !! new subscriber here. nossir...one song...one album...hell 20 songs wont' get you the full impact of P.T/Steven Wilson. deep and amazing stuff. i concur that 'Anesthetize' might be the best one...but tough call. Check out the live video for that one
Just found your channel. What exaxtly are you looking for as far as requests? Would love to see you critique Beth Hart. But not "Am l The One"....been done too muxh by too many. I suggest from Beth "Setting Me Free".
