This song is underrated even by PT/SW fans. In this performance, the solo in the middle and the outro solo are two of the most phenomenal guitar work SW has ever done. This should have more views.
Two years ago I had never heard of this band. Saw a kid do a PT cover, so I checked out the band. To my complete surprise I had stumbled on to this amazing collection of musicians. Only then to find out they had already split up. I was really bummed. Would have loved to have seen them live.
They are more on hiatus while Steven Wilson focuses more on his solo career and other musical ventures. He ran out of steam with the heavier sound and wasn't sure what direction to take Porcupine Tree in after the Incident. I was fortunate to see them live in 2009 in LA. It was a fantastic show.
I had this song on my playlist for five years and listened and loved it. Then one day I started to listen more to other songs and now I listen every day. I love this band!
I wish I'd seen this live, it's one of my favorite PT tracks. That drum riff, that bass line, these solos... I can't believe I only discovered this video now. Thanks for the upload!
@@grzech2006 that was first song I heard a few years ago... for the last year I have been discovering many more. Probably my favorite band right now !!
I’ve always preferred SW’s guitar work over that of his collaborators. His solo voicings are so emotional and perfectly balanced. Every note is in the right spot.
Perfect, only I wish it were maybe 1 bpm slower somehow. This illustrates the differences between Maitland's play and Gavin's. I feel Maitland won this one.
Steve Wilson is the most underrated writer & performer of fresh new original music that is currently walking the planet.... Stop, take a moment & listen to New Material from P/T... mostly Dignity... and related it to someone you know strung out on Fentanyl & homeless.... MASTERPIECE..... then look at R Water cascading the the planet on a money grab with nothing even new or relevant. (At least D Gilmour is in the studio writing)
I miss chris maitland. Gavin Harrison is way too technical to play the songs from this band's era. Chris was spot on, simple yet effective, more melodic to my taste
Quite simply a fantastic band after the first trial-and-error phase of the beginning. Gavin Harrison owns a big portion of this my personal impression.
I would certainly not call the music prior to his joining trial and error; The first three albums were essentially solo experiments, but Signify, Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun are all amazing. As much as I love Gavin, I think this particular song is an example of one where I prefer Maitland's drumming.
BTW, I didn't mean to imply that the first three albums aren't good...well, On the Sunday of Life is obviously pastiche and kind of hard to take seriously at times, but Up the Downstair is really great. And you even have the best of both worlds with Gavin's drums on the remastered version.
