Recorded live in Tilburg, Holland Oct.2008 - Taken from the forthcoming live DVD which is set to be released early 2010. Directed by Lasse Hoile www.porcupinetree.com
After this DVD came out, I can't even listen to the original album. And jesus fucking christ, Gavin is just on another level of drumming...like, on another level from people already ON the other level.
One of the most amazing musical performances ever given. Porcupine Tree was the best band when it comes to playing their songs live, I cannot understand how they manage to make their live versions so much better than the estudio recordings, I never thought that was possible, and this band is the only one that can achieve such an accomplishment, usually I dislike live versions, but with Porcupine Tree, it's the total opposite, once I hear their live versions, suddenly the studio songs are not that great.
True - I think they're great in the studio versions too, but there is always so much more energy in the live performances. There are some exceptions, though. Particularly some of the more low key songs from earlier in their career.
I'm not a drummer, and I've seen this I don't know how many times, but I still come back every once in a while to watch that ending... just awe inspiring....
Steven's fans are unique, not all of the people like his music but that people who undrestand his music it means that they feel what other fans feel This guy is legend ,real fans know what im saying
I think the thing that stuns me about Wilson in general and PT in particular is that all the songs are horrific. Not musically - musically they are all fine gems, cut and polished by a master lapidarist. It’s the lyrics. I can’t think of another artist who focuses so much on failed relationships, psychotic behaviour, depression, alcoholism, insanity, dissolution and darkness. He makes Staind look upbeat, Marillion sound giddy. And his audience head-bobs and v-fingers along like he’s NOT describing the slow slide of western civilization into chaos and despair. Pretty melodies though. Killer drums. Brilliant borrowings and ornamentation. Gorgeous vocals. Rock on, as you swim in soul-destroying acid and never once notice. That Wilson’s magic.
Ho it hurts, please get back together. I'm 70 years old been there from the beginning, my children and their friends came to see you at Metropolis in Montréal. I'm begging.
April 2022 here, doesn’t surprise me that I was jaw dropped by this video and song. Back in 2013. I love music . I Just discovered Chelsea Wolfe . I love my dad , who’s deceased now. I’m 46. When I was 15 I was considered one of the best hockey players in Canada. But at school in Winnipeg I secretly had a band called “bloodslut” in 91’ we were a trio that did gg allin covers. Oh how I wish I would have did what I loved.
That double bass blast! By the love of god, I haven't seen a more technically gifted drummer than Gavin Harrison! He just adds a whole new layer to the atmosphere that is known as Porcupine Tree! Gavin Harrison
Phenomenal band, phenomenal songs, the best prog band around in years! They have it all, melody, mood, a message in their lyrics, brilliant musicianship all round, perfect really!
This man can make sound better in live than in studio version it's a fact that every listener of this band will agree(i think so), BUT the live version is better BECAUSE you can see what were put in the song, emotion and other stuff, it's pity that you cant get ...
***** No he's not hahahahaha Gavin doesn't need that. He's a jazz drummer and this songs like a playground to him. Trust me its not hard what hes doing. The tempo change that is, some of the other shit he did was insane. Those 3 groups of 5's with 32nd double bass notes in between were insane.
don't know just didn't understand solve staff's comment. Did you mean, you didn't understand people that used the mislike button, when there is a lot of fans for them? If so I agree.
Porcupine Tree restored my belief that "prock rock" is still alive. These guys deserve a spot right in the tiers of ELP, King Crimson, Rush, etc. Gavin Harrison and Steve Wilson are, in my opinion, gods of Rock.
This is like a modernized Pink Floyd, mixed with a good amount of Dream Theater or Animals as Leaders. Amazing lyrics and instrumental talent... I will never give up the opportunity to see this band live.
I always try listen new songs to expand my music horizon and listen new music but i always end up listening one of Porcupine Tree.... And eveytime i listen i discover new detail which i missed last time!! Porcupine Tree is TIMELESS!! And this credit goes to each master of this band who are badass in their genre!!! #MordenDayPinkFloyd #TimeLess #PorcupineTree #StevenWilson
I like how tasteful this drummer is. he plays out at only the right moments. he doesnt get in the way like some of these other drummers out there by trying to show off all the time. he knows his moments to shine and takes them well.
I don't need to be high to enjoy this band, more. Rather their music gets me high and puts me in the ocean full of rhythm and satisfaction. Watching the happiest bassist is the real pleasure to eyes alongside ears. No other band can even touch their mark anytime in the near future....truly the GOD of the progressive rock.
Listen to other similar kind of songs where Gavin isn't on drums, then come back and listen to this one. Every single time. You shall be amazed. Richard Barbieri's reaction at 5:58 says it all.
All right, young people. Listen up! I'm 62 years old and I've been listening to music for pretty much all that time so I've heard a lot, I mean - A LOT - of music and Porcupine Tree's level of musicianship is at the very top of the heap. These guys are just freakin brilliant. I just can't get enough of 'em.
When travelling at 6 AM in the morning with a hangover, depressed from events from the night before, driving through a tunnel with this song playing is one of the best feelings ever.
Just stopping by to give praise to the best band in the business right now, maybe ever, and mention the fact that when a band is THIS perfect live, even without a visual gimmick (I mean, they do have a visual show but nothing TOO over-the-top). you know there is an immense amount of talent present.
Just a brilliant band ! Why do some comments compare the studio and 'live' versions and say one is better than the other. It's the same band- just appreciate them at all levels. Playing live develops a song expressively for musicians. It's the same song. Why do we always have to say , ' This is better than that ' ? or this drummer is better than the other ( or the guitarist) ? All great musicians are great artists- just appreciate that and allow your soul some peace and contentment !
LOL, I think he meant more like he doesn't see himself as a double bass dependent drummer. Like Neil Peart---he played double pedal, but mainly for fills and accents rather than what DM drummers do, making the double kick the backbone of the entire rhythm at times.
+Yann Selka Technique-wise, Mike Mangini shits on Gavin Harrison. In every other aspect, Mike Mangini couldn't even stand in the shadow of Gavin Harrison. The only that I consider just as good or better than Gavin Harrison is Danny Carey from Tool.
Damn Gavin! He's a beast! I'd be super happy even if I could become half as good as he is! He's on my top 3 best drummers alive! 1. Neil Peart 2. Gavin Harrison 3. Mike Portnoy
Danny carey and thomas pridgen are way better than both of those. Also, blake richardson. Gavin harrison is awesome, but portnoy and peart are overrated.
