The Porsche 911 R and GT3 share the same 493bhp output and fine manual gearbox. But which is best? And - ultimately - does it matter? Over to Ollie Marriage…

I agree the crazy premium on 911R isn’t worth it in my opinion. I’d rather take the much cheaper gt3 which revs all the way to 9 compared to the 8.5 of the 911R. I personally prefer the look of the gt3 with the wing but if you don’t like the wing get the touring which is still much cheaper than the 911R
@@RB-xv4si dont propagate lies. No F80 M3 have those very light lithium batteries stock, unless you bought it as a used car and the previous owner changed the battery. Im a previous owner of a F80 M3 and theres no option with lithium batts fr the US and Euro tick boxes.
The grin pasted on his mug while rowing the gears in the gt3 is priceless. Pure, authentic joy and pleasure. Like he said, ' what a way to wake up in the morning.'
All this talk of how nice the 911R shifts gear etc. becomes a bit academic when you know that, as a result of this model price went sky high, the majority of the 911R will just sit in some garages and collect dust...

It’s such a shame that any comparisons with a 911 R are shrouded by the fact you can’t buy one, ostensibly. The real world price difference between these two is so huge that comparing one for the other is a moot point, sadly.

Right… hie reason… “because it’s so iconic”…. 😂😂😂 (collectible) That’s not a valid reason if comparing the joy of driving, which his face admitted the GT3 was it.

Yes BH. Done exactly that to my first and prob only RS and on the track with those valves open it is virtually a cup car. And I challenge anyone to be able to pick the diff in the sound at full tilt :) Oh and by the way GL, stuff the monies !
If the 911R wasn't so "iconic" & hard to get because of collectors I don't think anyone would claim is better than a GT3 (Touring), but because the R is so hard to get people want it even more. That's how we humans are. We want what we can't get. That's what's happening now to the GT3 Touring as well. Even the reviewer only reason towards the end of choosing the R over the GT3 was because the R is so "iconic" & not because it is a better car. Tells you a lot about how collectors & speculators can create a hype that can drive the price of a car ridiculously high even though it's never been worth that price in the first place

The sound footage of the 911R is one of the greatest sounds I've ever heard. At least from the footage you captured, it sounds like the R has a smoother tone to it than the GT3, slightly less rasp.

If it's just a car for having the occasional blast with it on the weekends on nice flowing roads, then definitely the 911 R. If it's fun on the weekends and also occasional track fun then PDK 911 GT3 or GT3 RS. Down the line of time i think the R will be the more special car though and therefor better value.
I prefer the GT3 RS for the track and the 911 turbo s for the road. The Turbo is unbelievable fast, but is more comfortable for road trips, while the 911 GT3 RS just begs you constantly to floor it.
Ya idgaf I want a 911 R lol. The interior is beeeeeautiful and ugh it’s such a timeless car. That is my dream car!!! I have seen so many gt3/rs, gt2s, but never a 911 R. I love old Carreras and I think the R is the perfect split between old and new.
The 911R is a great car but the GT3 is the car to own. The PDK hands down is the gear box to have. I've had both and PDK is bullet proof and just better. Is it fun to manually shift? Sure but PDK is wonderful!

Not sure I totally believe you’d take the R and turn down the GT3. Im willing to believe the 911R is the nicest and most compliant to drive on English roads, but when did that have anything to do with it? I own a 427 big block Cobra and it’s a complete absurdity.....which is why I love it 😀

True. But can you tell the difference? I think that the mid range in the .1 sounds better and the top end in both sounds pretty much the same. My ear can't pick 200rpm. It's over so rapidly.
I don't like either because they are simply too uncomfortable. I'm simply to large of a human being to sit in those seats and not want to kill myself. Edit: I think those huge wings look like shit. Okay, I'm done complaining.
Brian Himmelman I think they feeling the pain after Paying 500k pounds or more for their Rs... Hyping the car is best they can do but word is out.. Manual gt3 touring is the dogs nads and they going to take a 400k bath on the R
