Always can count on Nick for an honest and down to earth review instead of reading the HP figures, throwing diamonds everywhere and using every word in the thesaurus to make the car sound more than what it actually is. Still a beautiful car though, even though its "heaver"
If you want a garage queen, or something for Saturday coffee shop runs, the Sport Classic is you choice. Investment? Harder call, but more dependent on plenty stupid money and credit which is now in a multi decade contraction. 😂. But, if you want an IC car that behaves like an IC car and is great fun to drive seems like a GTS or lower spec is the way to go. Personally, I want a Dakar.
@@ottomondo1368 even with the low rate fun money drying up, the number of people with money to spend on luxury car items has gone up much faster than the number of Porsche sports cars made. 911 production has gone up from about 23,000 units a year back in the late 1990s to about 38,000 a year now. However much of the production is now shared with China and other locations so that the number of 911s sold in the United States has actually been limited to about 10,000 a year since the around 2005. Tons of people in the US have high end tech jobs that didn't even exist 20 years ago... There aren't many direct competitors to Porsche either (car companies that make a high end, reliable, and usable sports cars). They have their niche market cornered, no wonder prices have gone up so much with slight supply curve disruptions...
The 992 is a nice looking car, I bought a C2S new back in 2020 and liked it a lot. Bought a new M3 xDrive after that for $50k less and liked it just as much though. Nearly $300k for the “Sport Classic” is nuts. One reason I always loved Porsche is because they were different than Ferrari and Lamborghini. I no longer feel that way. They have become Ferrari and Lambo wannabes with price minus the great sounding engine (aside from the GT3’s). Driving a non GT3 911 at lower speeds is nothing thrilling because the engine sound is mediocre at best. The prices they are charging for 911’s now are insane but as long as people keep paying it, they will charge it. When I bought my C2S I had plans to move on to a GT3 but once corporate greed took over, I realized how overpriced 911’s have become and stepped away. Porsche made it easy not to miss the 911 with their prices increases.
Pretty and due to limited run desirable, but yeah, pick a rwd gts and you'll have 95% of the experience for way less etc. Many SC will sit as locked investments sadly.
I have just replaced my 992 GTS for a Turbo. I am really happy with the trade. The Turbo just feels solid, better constructed. The lesser isolation on the GTS brings a lot of undesired noises in the cabin. The suspension is better tuned too. About the performance, I felt the Turbo more planted, even in straight line. The Turbo have it’s weight more balanced, it’s 60-40 against 63-37. In my city racetrack (Ayrton Senna International) the turbos are 2 seconds faster that GT3s if using the same Cup 2 tyres. A Turbo A Cabriolet was 3 seconds faster in Velocitá circuit with R Barrichelo as a driver of both cars.
Its a great investment, I think it's more geared towards older buyers who remember the "good old days" of the 911 who care more about the styling than the overall performance. It's only worth the price because it will not depreciate like other 911's.
@@GarthGoldberg yea seriously - just because it looks somewhat different and is a limited edition, but lacks any of the specific features that makes it actually unique, im not so sure about it holding value...
@@GarthGoldbergyou clearly don’t know anything about Porsche limited edition vehicles then if you think it it won’t keep its value at minimum but more than likely it’ll increase 😂😂
@@owerr66lol😂😂 well it’s very obvious that you don’t have any knowledge about Porsche 911 models then. If you did then you’d know there’s almost 200% certainty that this car won’t lose any of its value
Pay $100k more to get a car that is inferior in every metric? Hard pass. One full second of turbo lag to faithfully reproduce “the nostalgia” of a 930? L What next, authentic cigarette smell embedded in the seats, to remind us of that handsy uncle from the 1970’s Thanksgiving dinner? Crackle and hiss in the audio system, just like in the good old days of AM and cassette tapes?
The expression "damned with faint praise" springs to mind here. At least we have classical music playing in the intro / outro with this sport classic review... nice synergy!😊
I ordered a well optioned Carrera in the summer of 21. Couldn't get an S allocation w/o ADM so I snagged a Base allocation. It's my 3rd 911 in the last 10 yrs (964, 997). I've owned various British sports cars, sporty Japanese coupes in the 90's, an assortment of hot rods (e.g., K20 swapped X1/9), a Vette or two, some hot rod Audis, and a number of other interesting cars. The 992 - in base form - is the best car I've ever had. It has all aspects of the friction circle covered while being supremely comfortable. The 3 liter engine has lots of induction noise, pretty much sounding like an NA motor. Next week, I will have an APR Stage 1 tune installed. The new torque curve gets to 425ftlbs @ 2250 rpm staying above that figure until 5300rpm. From there it drops to 325lbft at red line. So a comparatively flat torque curve.
It depends if you buy your P cars as an investment or to drive. Drivers will buy a GTS or GT3. Investors will buy a Sport Classic or GT3. Masochistic investor/drivers will buy a GT3RS
Collectors who buy pieces for speculating "investment" are easily the most boring part of any enthusiast following whether it's cars, watches, records, guitars, and on and on.
I'd just get the GTS with the Heritage interior and add a duck tale after-market. These things are going for double that at $580 on the used market by the way. That seems nuts for a 6-speed, some trim, and a Turbo body with no vents on the rear quarter. A sport classic at $580 is the same as Leo the tile guy talking crypto at the gas station- a sure sign of the top and time to get out.
Wow I already wasn't a fan of this thing before I heard that the Sport Classic is supposed to cost $300,000. Porsche is really good at milking their fan base.
Porsche doing its supreme marketing again, targeting the investor/collector to reap huge margins. Is this the first time that Porsche has produced a higher cost 911 variant that doesn’t actually deliver significant driving/performance/handling/styling benefits for the huge amount of extra money?
It's definitely NOT worth it if you're trying to buy a 911. However, it is worth it for car collectors who have a love for Porsche and want to buy something special which can duel as an investment.
The Sport Classic is about going faster, its a GranTourer that comes with All the Style you could want from a 911, I like the overall package. Its great, but that price makes it unobtainable. Normally I dont go for watered down versions but that " Classic interieur" should be available on other models too, a Targa would wear this very well :)
My jaw dropped when I saw that price. Why anyone would pay that much for frog looking thing is beyond me. Crazy expensive. Definetly doesn't sound as good as the GTS which itself isn't a great note
I am a Porsche lover - but I would pass on this one, it's not pushing any buttons for me. Great review though as always. What is your planned next 911 Nick? you should have still the great classic convertible right ?
Without question I would take a regular nicely optioned manual Carrera S over the sport classic. Why would I want a heavy power limited Turbo that does have quite a bit of Turbo lag, handles worse, and sounds worse than a Carrera S. The real Turbo at least has lots of power. This is a real review and a stupid puff piece that most other channels put out.
It is not worth the price from a perspective of value. However, it is worth the price when you look at it from a cost perspective. If you have the oppertunity to buy this car it will likely be very inexpensive overall.
The interior is sublime so are the wheels. But I think at $280,000 plus of course the Mark Up that Porsche dealers will add to it. Will bump it to $350,000 so no way. Not worth that. Far better cars on the market for that money. I’d get a 911 T or S, and spec it to $200,000 with all the goodies like that Heritage interior, P.T.S paint, And save the money.
So essentially, you are saving $85k on an S or T vs the MSRP of this Sport Classic. The S or T will eventually depreciate, as things are returning to normal, whereas the Sport Classic will always be worth its MSRP, hedging the depreciation curve.
It does look great and reminds me of the first 911 I ever saw. I think that giant whale tail is what captured my imagination the first time. Insane how the pricing goes up. As I make more money, the goalpost keeps moving. Starting to look like I will never buy a new 911.
When I traded my 991 turbo for a 992 GTS 4 I worried I would miss the torque . Definitely miss the “wall” of torque that the 991 turbo had but in the real world the GTS feels almost as quick. Imagine the beautiful sport classic with a PDK and the available torque increase. It would not only look great but feel special too.
Gorgeous car, but most of them won't even get driven. Found 2 for sale at $599K and $629K, although the original owners likely paid a step ADM even if they're Porsche VIPs.
Run to see #Tui's Movie #STRAYS. Hilarious. Better than #CocaineBear. Not for kids and Granda Ma's. #Tui is voiced by #JamieFoxx....who is doing his best Samuel L. Jackson as a dog. The real standout is #IslaFisher as an #AustralianCollie. Reminds me of Nick's Sister #Becky. Kudos to #RandallPark (FBI Agent in #AntMan) as Hunter, who has a HUGE Secret. I can't unsee the #3_Squirrels. #MenageX3 They used real dogs and they made an appearance on the #TodayShow.
#Tui's Big Movie #Strays opens this weekend!!! Stars #WillFerrell and #JamieFox as #Tui #RatedR Obviously #GrandTurismo is also in early screenings, before opening wide on Aug 24th. #NISMO_GTRFest #Godzilla Yes there is a #Porsche scene. #DavidHarbour from #StrangerThings and #BlackWidow and the Kid are excellent. They inject a lot of emotion into the plot. The crashes are more exciting than the racing action. Airborne at #Nurburing Ends at #LeMans, like #FordvsFerrari BONUS: Hot Mom is #GeriHalliwell, #GingerSpice from #TheSpiceGirls.
It looks fantastic and I love the upholstery however in the U.K. reseller prices are in excess of £300k highway robbery. It would be cheap to do PTS and custom interior
Nick Porsche used to be like a bargain super car. What’s going on with these prices. I go to the dealer $50k mark up on everything. They say they aren’t making as many sports cars now. What’s going on
Cars are made for driving. And driving the sport classic isn't any better than driving a GTS . So let the collectors collect and let me drive my GT3. Thank you for your honest review. Great as always.
Since allocation would be limited to a handful of people, no, not worth even considering compared to an obtainable GTS. Looks very nice but really only built to be a garage queen/collector car.
Econ: Who cares? Is that a political statement or are you really saying cost is the only consideration for fuel use? Of course it's worth it (if money is your yardstick)!
I totally get why ppl like it but I just can t, it s the voice of reason that shouts cash grab despite the fact that it will hold its value, it s the sticker kinda theme that I find over the top, it s the spoiler that is only there coz of its cult status (technically, the adjustable or even retractable ones perform better according to Porsche), the only thing that really interests me is the gear ratio/torque development and what it does to the car...that s still a lot I admit but even if it might be a sound investment etc., there s sth inside of me that just shouts "no, I know what they re doing there and I don t like this path".
_"The over-all point is that new technology will not necessarily replace old technology, but it will date it. By definition. Eventually, it will replace it. But it's like people who had black-and-white TVs when color came out. They eventually decided whether or not the new technology was worth the investment."_ *~Steve Jobs* I think this quote is appropriate when considering certain Porsche models. Some are investment pieces wrapped in modern materials. While others are modern marvels dressed in retro attire. Each path inevitably leads to the road of happiness. Stay classy my friends.
I feel that my 981 Cayman GTS has the best value for money vs performance, handling, sound & sheer fun of driving, so I am not in any hurry to spend 8 times as much for a limited edition with moot advantages & so many negatives, especially turbo lag.
If you didn't care about a manual (and a ducktail), you could spec a 911 Turbo with heritage design package and have something faster and cheaper! :-p Yes, yes, I know it'll depreciate terribly.
Love the Classic, and GTS. But worth the $$$, if it's a second car for sundays and plenty of money, yes, but I wouldn't drive it daily. Great investment. But as a daily, I'd get a GTS, then put on an after market DB Carbon ducktail made in DE (OEM I believe?).
Hi Nick, Thank you for a great video. A wonderful car, great lines and really interesting interior. But WOW that's some pice tag 300,000! to pricy for me. Thanks again
I suppose when it comes to cars, if you're not going to lose money then the Sports Classic is worth it. But, one should look at where the $100K difference in price might be invested if not tied up in this car. For my money I'd stick to a GTS and put the $100K in the market. I think I would be just as happy and have money to spend! 😁
