My go to channel for every project or question I have about my new to me 944. You give so much detail, no fluff and give me a lot to reference. Appreciate the effort you put in to this.

Great video! It is amazing just how thin those plastic covers are. I attempted a repair on mine last week and it just wanted to disintegrate in my hands. I wish there was a more robust alternative.
@NC944er
@NC944er Год назад
The thickness is exactly 1mm. 😂 The new one does “feel” a little thicker, but after measuring both parts with a caliper, the thickness is the same. I guess because the plastic is fresh, it just feels a little more sturdy, but… either way you look at it, $200 for a piece of plastic is pretty crazy. I had put off replacing mine for awhile for that reason.

Very nice. I need to do this on my 89 as the battery side is all busted up. I have been considering making a mold and then laying it in carbon fiber (painted afterwards of course).
@NC944er
@NC944er Год назад
That would be pretty cool! And probably a lot stronger than the flimsy Porsche plastic. 😂

Can you do a video on replacing the door handles?
@NC944er

My door handles are working well at the moment, but if something goes wrong in the future, I can certainly take a look.

Do you think it is Possible to fit this Cover to the 944/1 or does it interfere with the older Blower assembly? Makes it Look way cleaner and could possibly hide a wiper Fluid/ coolant Expansion Tank relocation 🤔
@NC944er
@NC944er Год назад
I believe the top of the plastic housing on the early blower assembly sits too high to easily accommodate the later cover. I have not attempted it, but it looks like it would take some creative cutting of the two parts to retrofit the cover, and at that point it may not provide the intended look.

Very good video again. Man, have you come across “Renegade Hybrids?” On RU-vid? This shop is about 20 mins from my house. They took an 83’ like mine and did an LS3 swap on it. Really interesting and FAST. Looks like they used a lot of 993 parts to beef up the brakes and transaxle. I would never do that conversion, I want mine original, but it was cool to see for sure.

Nice! Hadn’t seen that one, I’ll have to check it out. Thanks.

Nice work. Now I know what to expect if I ever replace this plastic tray. Do you have a video for replacing the hood shocks? I have the hardest time replacing those darn things. Just curious.
@NC944er
@NC944er Год назад
Ha! I don’t, but those little spring clips on the top side can be annoying. I actually just have the studs in place there right now without the clips. There’s always weight on the struts, so the studs don’t back out. Most of the newer struts just pop off the metal ball joint on the bottom, but some of the older ones have a weird clip that needs to be released. If mine die in the near future, I’ll create something.

Never seen a cover on a 924S
@NC944er
@NC944er Год назад
Yeah, the 924S retained the early 944 style blower assembly and dash, so no extra cover on those models.

Is this why I feel like I smell exhaust finding it’s way to my interior.
@NC944er
@NC944er Год назад
Maybe not the cover so much as the weather stripping that runs across the firewall, that’s the main piece that would limit engine bay odors from passing through. Exhaust fumes can enter from the rear cargo area if the hatch seal has failed as well.

Hey would you happen to know where the ac control module is located ? I have a 1986 944 NA
@NC944er
@NC944er Год назад
The AC Control Unit is just the panel of switches and sliders on the dash that control the HVAC settings. Is that what you’re asking about?
@gravity718
@gravity718 Год назад
@@NC944er I installed a new ac compressor and it keeps cutting off, I’m guessing it’s the ac amplifier but idk where it’s located ?
@NC944er
@NC944er Год назад
@@gravity718 Ahh, gotcha. The AC amplifier or booster, part number 477-959-531 is only applicable to the early 944s, so your ‘86 wouldn’t have one. They were located under the glove box off to the right side. In your case, assuming the refrigerant is charged to the correct level, I would test the low and high pressure switches near the receiver drier, as those can fail. The AC button in the dash can also fail and not stay engaged. You can try to hold it depressed to see if the compressor stays on. If it does, then the switch should be replaced.

HA! Sure, although it would probably cost more to ship than it would be worth. 😂 Might make for a good local transaction though…

I just can´t get my self to pay 200 for cheap piece of plastic. They use the same material in trow away packaging
@NC944er
@NC944er Год назад
The price is an absolute joke, I agree. I guess now that production is ramping down, they don’t have the scale to keep the price where it was a few years ago. Watch, in another 5 years, they’ll be at $500. 😂
