Hey Owl, thank you! There are definitely more wrecked 944s out there and with increasingly fewer shops willing to work on them, hopefully this helps save some from the salvage yard. 👍🏼
Bro, I real sorry about your accident atleast you are safe and the car is salvageable thank God! If anything you are teaching us how to reassemble, really helping me with my own rebuild because I forgot where some things went and was lost and am at reassemble stage.
Yeah man, happy to help! The way these body shops are understaffed and behind schedule at the moment, I may end up needing to re-watch my own video to reassemble. 😂
LoL, Work shortage here in NY as well. Your videos are priceless, by far the most professional and helpful in here! You are a true asset to the community! God bless
Yeah man, about a $3,500 chunk! Thanks Hagerty! 😂 These wheel-well liners came with an extra small plastic flap bolted to the lower rear corner (that my old ones don’t have), which I was initially thinking maybe that was to accommodate the 968, but then considering the fender flare differences, they don’t really line up and it’s a different part number. You must run into shortages a bit more with the 968.
Bravo! Awesome editing of the video. People should emulate your work and stop fast forwarding or showing us how to turn a fastener loose by hand, while holding the camera with the other. I appreciate you for a frustration-less video.
Thanks ST! A simple tripod solution goes a long way. 😂 It does require more work for setup and trying to film some of the messier jobs isn’t always fun, but it makes for a pretty cool end product when there’s a little more time and thought put into the shots.
Thanks! The radiator was new-old-stock I was lucky enough to catch on eBay and saved some money that way. I picked up the front spoiler from Delaware Porsche Parts as they had the best price. Shipping can be pricey on that piece, a couple hundred dollars. It came over from Germany in a LARGE box with Air France stickers on it. I guess they can’t fold it up for shipping like the newer urethane bumper covers.
Nice vídeo. Thank you. My 944 isn't has hook on the rear, Then I was looking the way to taking out front bumper and hooking for towing well. Last time someone used the stabilizing barr to to tie a tope and created a chaos
@@NC944er i Wanted to ask you something that is concerning me with my 944. I have a NA 944 from 1983, the european spec, and it is stopped since 2014. The engine is very dusty and i think i little bit rusty too, but not too much, It was in good dry spot. I wanted to know how can i clean The engine properly, It concerns me, because i don t want to damage any parts or anything. If you read this, thank you so much, this car means a lot to me and i want to do this properly.
@@uneven1900 I used degreaser and wire brushes to clean mine. Dry ice cleaning does a nice job as well, if you have a service provider for that in your area. It’s ok for the engine to get wet, so you can spray it down with a hose, you’d just want to cover electronics like the alternator and distributor cap. Personally, I would avoid pressure washing, as the plastic wire insulation and connections around the engine bay can become brittle and crack over time, so there is potential for damage if they are abused.
@@NC944er i Will take notes, thank you so much man, i Will start cleaning It a little bit and i Will start with the little things. It s a pleasure having a Channel like this to have some info , thank you ;))
With your front end totally disassembled, it would be a good opportunity to add a piggy-back headlight wiring harness. I got a kit from an ebay seller in India, genuine Hella and top quality for a crazy low price.
Then I could really blind the deer! 😂 Unfortunately it presents a “good opportunity” to add a lot of things as I’ve already picked up a new ignition coil, high/low horns, and am now eyeing A/C compressors… where does one draw the line?
Hey! I picked it up from Delaware Porsche Parts as they had the best price at the time - part number: 931-505-371-04. It came in a VERY large box from Germany. They don’t fold it up, so shipping was high, $200+. Ian at 944Online has it for $1,200 with shipping included, which is nice. I ended up saving about $100 off that price after shipping. I was tempted to try the aftermarket one for about $600, but couldn’t find any reviews on quality and how they hold up over time, so I went with OEM Porsche.
Well dude, it’s looking good! Rudolph has to you thank you for the sacrifice you made. Curious to know what the part numbers are for the air ducks that you are talking about and maybe the hardware. I am attempting to install a new idle control valve and hoses without removing the intake manifold. It says it can be done, however you need small hands. We’ll see what happens. And I am in the process of purchasing the Lindsey racing mass airflow kit. We’ll see what happens.
Thanks! There are three different air ducts/guides up front on the NA cars - lower (944-575-221-01), middle (944-575-121-02), and upper (944-575-321-00). The latter two are around $20, but the lower duct is $100+ for some reason. I think I’ve seen that “small hands” post on the forums as well. I tried to get my hand and a tool in there once and was like, nope it’s gotta come off. 😂 But may be possible with patience.
In which RAL color did you have the intake and camshaft tower powder-coated? Since it looks really cool on your 944, I'm considering powder coating mine as well. Keep up the good content. Greetings from Germany
Thank you! The camshaft housing and intake manifold were moderately oxidized and I wanted to bring back a freshly cast aluminum look. After the glass bead blasting process, they were a bright white color. Because that made the metal a little porous, it would have easily started to collect dirt and oils, so I had them coated with just a satin clear powder. No color added beyond the clear coat, but that did somewhat darken them up and resulted almost in a titanium color, which was completely accidental. 😂 Cheers to your countrymen for making such amazing automobiles!
I'm very sorry about the accident, though I know that car is in the best of hands. Your channel has been such a huge help to me; I recently bought an 85.5 NA 944 that had been sitting for more or less a decade, and your videos are simply the best I've found. My car has front-end damage similar to what you're dealing with here, so this video will be especially helpful as I begin tackling that. My current focus is the engine, which I pulled for a rebuild. A quick question on that, if I may: upon tearing down the engine I was somewhat surprised to find that the rod bearing journals have been turned down (presumably in a previous rebuild) 0.25mm, with correspondingly oversized rod bearings. Main journals and bearings are standard. Any suggestions on purchasing new 0.25mm rod bearings? Most sets (such as those on Lindsey Racing, which I'm sure are excellent) are discontinuously more expensive than standard size, the exception being ACL Race Series bearings. I haven't been able to find much at all on Rennlist or the Pelican Parts forums on ACL, and wondered if you were familiar with that brand; I believe they're based in Australia. Thanks again for your excellent work on these videos; like your work on your 944, they are a labor of love, and are much appreciated. All best, Andrew
Hey Andrew, thank you! I’m quite excited to get the car rebuilt and this waiting on availability at the body shop is killing me. 😂 I like Lindsey Racing for their aftermarket items, but OEM parts are generally more expensive there. Check behind me, but it looks like the Porsche factory part number for the larger 0.25mm connecting rod bearings is 928-103-143-52. Pop that in a search and I’m seeing two on clearance at Pelican, ECS Tuning has them, along with 944Store, and Delaware Porsche Parts seems to have the best price at $41.33. Sold as half units, so multiply by 8 and that puts you at $330, a couple hundred more than the standard size bearings. Mine had sat for about 8 years, so I’m sure we’ll walk similar restoration paths. It was fun working on it slowly while being able to drive the car in between, but if I ever pick up another 944, I’d probably pull the engine from the beginning and do it all at once. Best of luck with the rebuild! 👍🏼
Hey, thanks! Hello, I love your videos and they have been a big help when fixing up my 84’ 944. I had a question about the A/C condenser, which I hoped you would know. Am I able to use the same model condenser you have in my earlier 84’?
Hey man, thank you! No, unfortunately the late AC condenser isn’t a direct replacement for the early cars as the mounting points and brackets are different. The early condenser was part number: 94457301104 and is NLA, so most folks will source an aftermarket parallel flow condenser and modify the brackets to fit the early cars. I’ll include a forum post below with some additional details as well as a link to one on eBay that may work for you. rennlist.com/forums/924-931-944-951-968-forum/721725-bolt-on-parallel-flow-ac-condenser.html www.ebay.com/itm/266596662861
@@NC944er thanks a ton! Just bought a replacement today along with all the other parts 💀 wallet is much lighter now. I’ve contacted both 944online and Griffith’s, and neither are making/selling converted condensers anymore. Welp.
I noticed the rear hatch area had porsche labeled carpeting, did this come stock with the car or did you add it? If you added it, where can I find it? I have 944 of my own that I am completely rebuilding on my channel, and this would be an awesome touch.
Hey there! The cargo carpet seen here is aftermarket by Lloyd Mats out of California - www.lloydmatsstore.com Unfortunately, their licensing agreement with Porsche expired maybe a year and a half ago… they were the only company authorized to use the Porsche trademark. After speaking with them, I was told they don’t anticipate that they’ll be able to renew the agreement. You may be able to find one on eBay from time to time, otherwise they still sell the carpets for the 944 absent of the logo,
I picked up the front spoiler from Delaware Porsche Parts, as they had the best price with shipping to my area at the time, but a number of other vendors can procure them as well.
