Porsche 993 C2S: The best of the air-cooled Porsches? 

Using A/C keeps the compressor lubricated and system pressurised which is good. Keeping it ON all the time however builds up the condensation in the system. It’s good to switch it OFF 2 min before stopping the engine to let the humid air out of the vents and flush the condenser. I’ve got C2 variorum 993 from 1996, great car, it’s a definite keeper Front lights originate from 959 design I suppose. Regards !

Immobilizer can be unlocked by putting the key in ON position and pressed the alarm button once. You can save yourself from locking and unlocking the car. I had my car for 2 years and only learnt about this trick from another RU-vid comment recently! Hope to share it with other 993 owners

Just a note for the owner. The glove box closure isn't just that way, it's adjustable. It's a bit of a pain to adjust, but there is a screw to loosen it up right next to the little hoop that it closes onto. You can then push the hoop in to snug up the closure, and retighten the screw. Be careful not to over-tighten it though, as it is easy to strip (ask me how I know) and then you have to order a replacement piece that is a real pain to replace. There are 2 screws at that location, only one affects the closure, but sadly I forget which one. Should be pretty easy to figure it out though. Also, when it comes to the limits of the 993, they are VASTLY higher than your 74.5. I recently did a road trip in mine on Goodyear Eagle F1s, and was able to very nearly keep pace with a friend whose Miata RF used to hold the record around the Nürburgring for that model. He was running DOT legal race tires, and on some of the tightest, most technical roads I've ever seen down in Sardinia, he could just barely pull away in some of the tightest sections. The rear-end grip of the 993 is much more reliable than the older 911s due to the multilink suspension design. I've only ever had it bite me once, and it was due to an inaccurate tire pressure gauge that saw me put 47 PSI in the rear tires without knowing it. As long as the tires are good, the alignment is correct, and your tire pressures are correct, it's very difficult to put a foot wrong in a 993. Also, mine is a C2, so I can't even get as much tire on the back as you can. It's running 265s currently.

Nice. I've a 1996 993 C2 iris blue metallic, 66,000 miles, 6-speed manny tranny, varioram, LSD. No CEL, no oil leaks. Multi-show full-concours winner. I do my own maintenance. I'm never selling it.

Beautiful car and I've lusted after one since they were on the show room floor in '97. One of the most beautiful 911's ever and those headlights are stunning. BTY ' 95 I believe was the last year of OBD1 and can be identified by the '95 only basket handle. Interesting to find out the 996 was 160lbs lighter (a whole Dr. Kyle lighter!).
