Really good review, I bought a c2 last year and can't think of a better car for the money. 300hp is just right and can enjoy reving it out with out go silly fast! I don't think they will be as cheap in the future.

1 they're not fried eggs, it's a 996.2 not a 996.1 2 those headlights have never been on a boxster, the fried egg headlights where tho! 3 otherwise great review subscribed

996.1 headlights right off the Lemans winning racecar, same part number, are nicer. These don't quote work imo. 1999 996.1 will be the future classic, not this one.
@LCOF

@@georgem5589 I actually prefer this style of light, but the rest of the car has to hit all the right spots too. Nobody cares about the lights being on the Lemans car. They'll probably care more about it being in the Pixar movie Cars. For me it's a little too cartoony and the gen 2 is grown up.

Here because I watched the Defender video before and hated it :) scrolled down and saw the 996 and as I own one thought I’ll check that video as well and you surprised me. This presenter was excellent , presenting skills are fantastic unlike the other one this morning. Full kudos for owning an Elise and you looked like you gave this 996 a proper drive. They’re great cars and not immediately one to blow you away but they have hidden depths and are perfect for a proper good drive on twisty roads Anyway we’ll done to the young presenter you definitely have a future in this kind of work 👍👍

From a design perspective that Targa pane of glass at the rear makes it look almost concepty. As if it's a one-off proof of concept. I never used to like the way it looks but now I think it's the one I'd have.

Great review. My only additional thing I wish you had done was show the car with the rear spoiler up. I personally think it really adds to the profile. There is a secret button in the footwell to raise the spoiler at any speed ( including stationary), not just over 75mph which I think is when its programmed to raise. Definitely only buy a used 996 with IMS replaced, I had mine fail at slow speed and cost £10k for a rebuild.

@sunilkhusial

Today, i am totally convinced about this 996 and that is because of the TARGA roof. I Love that the whole roof is of glass and you can open it from the back side.
@BuckleUpShow
@BuckleUpShow 2 года назад
It’s the best of both worlds!
@sunilkhusial
@sunilkhusial 2 года назад
@@BuckleUpShow Exactly. But one question. Why do you need the coupe if you can buy with the Targa roof. If everything technically is the same.
@BuckleUpShow
@BuckleUpShow 2 года назад
Some people prefer the look of a full metal roof, but apart from that, I don’t think there’s any real reason
@sunilkhusial
@sunilkhusial 2 года назад
@@BuckleUpShow The thing is that, i think and this is very logic, If you want to have the real experience in a 911 than you dont need the Cabriolet but if you want to have the open driving experience and still the real driving experience of a 911 then the Targa roof will give that at same time. I like the spacious feeling in a full glass roof. It is great. But i have just seen that the 997 has the same TARGA as the 996. So i have to think for which i go for. I will study more before i make my decision between 996 or 997. The 996 has much better price and is also beautifull.
@BuckleUpShow
@BuckleUpShow 2 года назад
Agree entirely. I haven’t driven the 997 so can’t comment on which is better but I very much enjoyed my time in the 996!

I don't understand, what exactly is a targa roof? is it not a convertible?
@BuckleUpShow
@BuckleUpShow 3 года назад
Technically, it's slightly different because only part of the roof retracts into the car leaving a full roll bar in tact behind the front seats. It was designed for the American market as there were legitimate concerns that the Department of Transport was going to ban convertibles in the 60's and 70's. Porsche came up with this a way around any potential ban and they've continued to make it ever since.

How reliable is this car besides the IMS bearing?
@BuckleUpShow
@BuckleUpShow 2 года назад
Generally, pretty darn reliable. Obviously as with every used purchase, it’s down to how that particular car has been maintained. It’s definitely going to be more reliable than rivals such as a BMW M6 or an Aston Martin V8 Vantage.
