If your windshield has been replaced, specially with a Fuyao brand, they are know for leaking in 997 at least. Pour water in the area for the roof rack mounts and look for water intrusion. As for the seats, let the sun shrink the leather. It will get tight. Just make sure you keep an eye on wrinkles.

From what I've seen, these covers don't fit 100% even with a pro. But MUCH better than what I had in there before.

I have been meaning to comment on this for quite some time: you don't go to the garage to turn wrenches, you go to the garage to swing cordless power tools. :-)) I don't remember exactly what parts it was on, but watching you take apart and above all reassemble the motor was exasperating. It seemed like you were going out of your way to squeeze the cordless ratchet in somewhere where it didn't want to fit so that you could avoid turning a ratchet by hand. Use more hand tools. You'll get a much better feel for what you are doing and in most cases it wont take any longer. And this was a really long explanation as to why the handbrake mount broke - way overtightened with the impact.

It’s pretty normal for the Porsche sunroofs to leak is because of the sunroof drains being dirty. Use hot water to clean out the drains and you can gently clear them out with compressor air. Ask me how i know LOL.

The E-Brake housing is made from fast aluminum and thin cast aluminum doesn’t really do well with impact type tools. It can create stress cracks as it’s hammering thus wreaking the aluminum. In the future just use hand wrenches on anything that’s cast aluminum. I’ve seen that problem numerous times. You can also take a heat gun afterwards and heat the leather to tighten the leather and remove the wrinkles.

You have been doing great work on this 996 Turbo, but personally I think the new seats let the car and your other work down. I don't know if it's a budget thing, but I would highly recommend you get them redone by professional specialised in Porsche.

The evaporator drain can leak into the interior and is not related to coolant. It is only for allowing water collected on the surface of the evaporator to drain off and out of the bottom of the vehicle. On some vehicles, not just Porsche, the drain can be compromised and allow water to drip into the interior due to not sitting in the correct position or shape.

The interior is coming along nicely. I’ve had to recover a few seats and I’ve found steaming the foam before covering it with the leather brings it back to life and will fill in the leather better when you cover it.

The drain tube runs behind the A pillar and is in two parts that also goes for the rear ones sometimes the joints will separate and cause a leak . The drains are very small behind the wheel well and the cowl near the shock tower parking under trees is usually the culprit .

And if the car had log exposure to sun the heat will make the drainage tubes to become brittle and start to leak. Do not forget, they use VW Audi components or suppliers. I had the same problem. 20€ part but 1200€ in labor….

Yo Matt - Been watching this resto for a while and want to say, you're doing a killer job. Wrenching isn't my day job, but I've done a lot of work on older Germans and I've felt your pain a few times. This was the most relatable after a pleather replacement on my W212 Mercedes. Not only was it brutal, but it didn't come out flawless after (what I thought was) meticulous effort. If you want show quality on interior, it takes a pro. You're super close for a fraction of the cost. Be proud of what you've accomplished. 98/100 couldn't do a better job.

I think factory leather was better. New seatcovers look like some workingcover on seat. I think I have made this another way. Like scrubbing and coloring old leather and then they going to look like new.

The old "leather" was too far gone and gross, not worth saving. Really bad shape and cheap feeling. New leather feels much nicer.

Great job. I got the LSeats and was was going to tackle this on my 996 but I got a great deal from a local guy and he did an amazing job for $300 both seats. The trick is to flip the seat covers inside-out when installing them. Then let them sit in the sun for a few hours to get the wrinkles out.

Please don't test your new welding skills on a safety part. For some reason ot seems either fatigued which makes it a really poor candidate for welding again, or you caused fractures from overtightening the bolts. Just buy a new part IMO (or uprate).

Cigarette smoke stays in the foam even though you changed the leather you will still have the smell wig you had fabreezed the foam or ozóned it before installing the new leather it might have removed the smell completely

Please stop wrenching everything with an impact gun. This is a very lazy way to operate and very prone to over stress parts. Use manual tools and have feel for it. Your hands are the best tool, trust them, not the power tools !
