I enjoyed your review, perhaps because it mirrors my experience and my brother's experience, exactly. And I also happen to agree. I sold my manual transmission Boxster s (it had a cayman s engine in it) and bought a 2009 Cayman S with PDK, wanting a new experience and because of the reviews it received. You're spot on. It's exhilarating, just in different ways than the manual. It's lighting fast, allows you to concentrate on your line(s), you can play with the 'paddles' if you like or leave it in D, which shifts in 40 milliseconds. I'm having a blast with it. To combat the lethargy of the regular mode with the PDK I picked up a Sprint Booster, which allows you to modify the throttle response. I'm nearly in heaven now, except for one thing. The buttons, instead of the paddles, just seem silly and difficult to manage easily. So I'm close to pulling the trigger and purchasing a paddle wheel, where right paddle shifts up, left downshifts - as it should be. Again, thanks for the video. Well done.

+Marc Saegaert thanks for the comments. I agree on the shifter buttons they are too easy to confuse. Thanks for watching!

yeah, It's definitely a personal preference. I think what you realized is that the pdk just fits more with your style of driving vs your manual stick shift style of driving. I have no complaints about the quality and performance of the pdk and it is the best automatic tranny in the business, but I still got a little bored with pdk on the canyon roads after about 15 minutes. I think what surprised you and why you felt pdk was faster is because the pdk gear change right off the bat is programmed to shift more aggressively and at higher rpm where the power band is stronger. Just my observation, but in the video when you drove the stick shift boxster you seemed pretty slow with your shifts and you also kept shifting way below redline at what seemed like 4000 rpm or lower. These cars rev out to 7500 and, to be fair, shifting well below the power band will make any manual car feel slower. You also never revved out the 6 speed like you did in the pdk. There are no wrong decisions here. All Porsches are special cars to own and drive.. manual or automatic and you have to go with your gut and what best compliments your driving style. I drive manual porsche cars aggressively and usually shift near redline or close to it and have a blast, but that's just me and I will take a manual every time. I am sure the next guy will take a pdk and so it goes.

+qikqbn77 yeah. I did baby the manual transmission a little. It is a car for sale at a dealer so I try not to be too hard on cars that are for sale. I know Porsches log over revs too. But you do have me questioning my choice haha. A friend of mine owned a 996 C4 manual and when I drove that I kept the revs up and I only have fond memories of that. Thank you for your input and for watching

I absolutely agree with you. With Boxster in manual, the charm is revving the engine, shifting way higher than normal, and using he engine for stability in corners. I have the 981 in manual and I would get bored with PDK immediately.

I want to add that my Porsche Boxster S 2009 on the track (Mont Tremblant, Quebec) goes just great with PDK... And it is not boring, believe me.

with the PDK the sports steeringwheel option is a must!! i don't know why Porsche has that stupid + - on a same button shifter thing its so bad. + should be on the right - should be on the left...

I am buying a porsche boxster for my first car but what do you guys mean when you say "it depends on your driving style?" which driving style is a manual better for? and which driving is a automatic better for?
@Carguments
@Carguments 7 лет назад
+kevin lee I would say laid back and enjoy the drive type style would prefer the manual. But the aggressive, wanting the fastest lap time type would want the pdk. Thanks for watching.

@@Carguments I'd disagree, if you want a more visceral involvement then heel and toeing a manual will always be much more immersive than a pdk. Pdk is much more usable day to day in traffic etc but is a less involving car

I have driven my manual Boxster hard---on the track and on windy curvy roads----and shifting is just so much fun, even though the PDK guys were passing me. I don't care! the difference must be very much like what it must be like to ride a horse with a saddle--and bareback---both are fun---one just seems more primitive and rewarding. Its about being in control---and shifting when YOU want to!

Get the PDK. Then swap the "button" steering wheel for the Sports steering wheel with the big aluminium flappy paddles - it's superb.

If you go for the PDK, don't take those button-shifters at least!

I know you really wanted to make this video because it is a life long argument between manual enthusiasts that a manual is always better, but I’m finding it hard to take your reaction and your thoughts on the matter seriously, because I don’t know who you are, and most importantly, I don’t know what kind of cars you’ve driven extensively in your life, to persuade me of your views in this video. What I mean by that is, if you haven’t driven any cars with great hydraulic steering systems, I can’t take your opinion on how you think that this electric steering in the Boxster, is great, as a serious opinion. Unless you have driven an amazing hydraulic steering system in a car, such as older Porsche’s and BMW M3’s for example, you wouldn’t know how numb feeling this electric steering feels. If you haven’t done this, I would advise you to start with older cars, and review them, so that you can actually get a feel for how cars are supposed to feel, and then go to the numb’er feeling newer cars, so that you have a true opinion on the matter.

If you would like a list of cars have driven in my life to verify my opinion you are over thinking it. Every car gives different people different sensations. In the moment of driving the cars I felt the response was great for the car. If you didn’t take that as valid, that is on you. Your are welcome to that opinion of my opinion. However, I would understand your issue with credibility if I was working for a large automotive outlet that was paying me. This is my channel that I created and do all the work for. This is my creative outlet,Thank you for watching.

Carguments overthinking what? I fully credible on my part to question a car review from someone who hasn’t driven many cars. That’s a pretty simple evaluation that everyone should have when watching a you-tuber doing a review on a car. If you want your fan base to be teenagers, then it is what it is. I would beg the differ though.... The fact that you are trying to make informative videos public, you should have some validating history to let your viewers know that you know know what you’re talking about. Due to your response, I highly doubt you know what your talking about.

Jason S If you want a list of every notable car I have driven to validate my opinion read the following: Acura Intgra Type R RHD Alfa Romeo Gulia Alfa Romeo Stelvio Aston Martin vanquish v12 Audi RS5 BMW M3 e46 BMW M3 e92 BMW M5 e60 Chevrolet Camaro SS 5th Gen Stock and Modded by Nickey Chevrolet Camaro SS 6thgen Dodge Challenger Scat pack Dodge Charger scat pack & hell cat Ferrari 355 Ferrari 360 Fiat 500 Abarth Ford Fiesta ST Ford Focus ST Ford Focus RS Ford Mustang Terminator Cobra Ford Mustang GT S550 Honda S2000 Honda Civic Si pretty much every generation Infiniti G35 Infiniti G37 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport Infiniti Q60 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Lamborghini Gallardo Lexus ISF Lotus Elise Lotus exige S Mazda Miata Mazda RX 8 Nissan GTR R35 Nissan 350z Nissan 370Z nismo Porsche 996 911 c4, c4s, turbo S Porsche Boxter Toyota Celica all trac Toyota MR2 turbo VW Golf R VW GTi I may have missed some but those are the ones I consider notable. If you don’t consider my options valid that’s fine. At the end of the day I was the one experiencing these cars back to back. Spouting out my opinion as I felt them while driving. As far as creativity. Same thing can be said of you. How do I know your opinion of creativity is valid? Some people consider taking the time to share what they enjoy in video form as a creative outlet. Enjoy your day

+david dykeman yeah it all comes down to personal preference. I get the feeling I would prefer the cayman in manual for some reason. Thanks for watching
