Hello aeromechanix You are very welcome..these cars were incredibly well built with close tolerances and infinite amounts of small important details.. Amazing work by the engineers and craftsmen who built them!
Mike, The interior is done on my 69 911e with a new dash, restored gauges, carpet, and recovered panels. Looks great and thanks for the helpful videos. Next comes the exterior. Now that you have completed your car would you change the order of assembly? I believe it was engine deck lid, long hood, front bumper, fenders, then doors. All of these were fitted and pinned before painting, so everything should go back together easily. Thanks
Hello Roger Congratulations on your interior restoration! Im glad the videos were helpful.. Good question on the Assembly order. I don't think I would change much of the order as the final adjustments will all need to be made after everything is in place. Panel gaps door latches, hood lashes etc. If you have not seen the final walk around video I refer to the process in some detail.. The only suggestion I might make is to not over tighten fender screws and bolts as they will require considerable adjustmeant in the end phase. As far as every thing going back together easily after paint..Good Luck! I didn't find any of it went smooth after paint.
All that crystal clear glass! It is so hard telling what is the surface and what is you! Nice seeing you talking at the camera now! Come a long way, with that and the editing, really nice man!
Hello Christopher! Thank you yes she is shiny=) Looking back you are spot on...The early video work and structure has gone through some evolution..hopefully getting better. For me its easier to work on the car than making video=) Take care and keep safe!!
this car is going to be one of the best when done. looking forward to more updates on the motor. btw. if you need anything sourced and sent over from Germany/Europe let me know
I do sound like a scratched CD but the attention to detail will be so welcome when I put my car together. One question. Was there any rust to contend with?
Hello Brian We had some rust issues on the from pan area..battery/ gas tank portion of the pan was replaced with new sheet metal Also couple small fender patches and one patch rear pillar. Other than that she was a pretty good serving example for a California climate car. Hopefully you will be able to breeze thru your restoration!=) Wishing you the best of luck and please keep healthy and safe!
Mike, you're my hero :) Where do you describe your experience restoring/building other porsches etc. I'm curious how many you've done prior to this one... Do you already have a video or write-up?
Hello Simone Thank you for the compliment=) I actually only do restoration work as a hobbiest. My main profession and business is cabinet making. I don't have any write up but do mention little pieces of my background experience occasionally throughout the video series. This particular restoration is my first Porsche. My car bug started when I was a teenager and most of the things I learned came from Dad. When I was a really young he always had a project going in the garage and I just loved hanging out with him and learning what he was doing. I have always thought anyone can do this work with some basic guide and lots of passion
Hello Rennch Thanks.. yes that is aluminum foil you see in the background The build is taking place in a converted car port and the aluminum foil help with the heat and also blocks out all UV
@@MikesRestorations Lol, I just heard it crinkling the entire video. Thought you might yell at the guy to stop using it. But if it's the wall...nobody wants to be seen yelling at a wall. :P.
Reminds me to swap in the proper white chasis plugs. I’m repainting my bumper and have 3 mismatched plugs and one hole filled with tape, by me 20 years ago. Where did you get them?
Hello cmscms Thats a good question..There are holes there but no alignment possibilities with anything that could be of help. They would be vertical position and offset.. the brackets would be lateral positions Not sure really why those holes and plugs exist..Its a mystery
Hello Mooney.. Yes we are on the home stretch.. At the moment I have no plans for a future project.. An E-type is one of my all time favorites. My cabinet business consumes 90 percent of my time.. In order to do another car project I would need to dail that business back considerably. I have enjoyed making this series but the hours required to build the car and do the videos doesn't really pencil out. I would need considerable more interest and engagement on this channel to pursue such a thing but who knows what the future brings=)!
I am very surprised how you don’t have more subs. It doesn’t make sense. Your detail is second to none. I literally think I could build your car with all the detail you go in to. Maybe try some click baity titles like the rest do. Keep up the great work.
Hello Kobus The center piece on the front bumper is actually glued to the late and right number molds. Its sold as one piece for the bumper. The center piece higher up on the truck is sold with the trunk seal and needs to be cut to size. All rubbers were sourced direct from Porsche. It's possible to get the part numbers from any of the major suppliers websites. Good Luck!
Hello Pip I do have a target date but that will depend and a few variables.. On the road by end of year would really make me happy You can send the $64,000.00 check to Mikes Restorations..also I accept pay pal and direct deposits=)
@@MikesRestorations I wish..! I'm guessing that car's a "keeper".. Your painstaking restoration work does you great credit. It's starting to look more like a car now. How's the engine coming along? Hope you're going to continue showing us the car once it's on the road.
Hello Kirk The front weights help to balance the weight of the car. The rear engine location creates a very lightweight front end and light steering conditions making the car dangerous to drive.
@@MikesRestorations Ahhhhh… the old Covair issue. a friend had one back in the day and stopped and shoveled dirt in the front, going up a windy canyon in SLC to tame it down. Thanks Mike.
My guess is approximately 25 -30 lbs each side These were factory installed on all 911 ..im not sure about 912 my guess is yes but the weight might be different
