Your tip on draining the fluid at the 6 minute mark is GOLD! It saved me when I changed the PDK filter on my 991. I noticed once the pump disconnected from the filter, a lot of fluid suddenly came rushing out. I tilted the pan and it all slowly drained out without making a mess. Great suggestion! Also, a beam type bicycle torque wrench worked perfectly for the bolts. Thanks to Jeff Blackwell’s comment for that suggestion.

I have an inexpensive beam style, 1/4” drive torque wrench made by park tools. It’s intended market is bicycle repair and it measures in inch pounds and newton meters. 2.5 newton meters is in the lower third of the scale, but it seems to be within its usable range. Thanks for another helpful video

Thank you for the PDK information. At ~5:30 you describe your suggestion for heavier duty pan bolts (off of a BMW trans pan?) v the Porsche OEM aluminum pan bolts. Can you clarify which steel bolts you are suggesting, part number, link etc? Thank you ahead of time.

Do a search for 'ZF 6HP transmission oil pan bolts' and you will get a bunch of options. You don't necessarily need the T30 wide head screws. You could easily go and source some M6 grade 8.8 screws of the correct length and use a washer that is wide enough. Then use a bit of loctite to secure.

Hi Jeff...when your filling it up again do you fill it till it starts to come out of the top then have to start the engine and get it warm then put more oil in

Yes. Suggest you look at the servicing video I made (link below) for the exact process of testing temp etc. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f5FMuLzA89w.htmlsi=EsMxQFqrFZaTWLBW&t=673

thanks for sharing Q: when for some reason the oil level in the PDK would be too low or too hot Are there sensors inside PDK that show the issue on the dashboard ?
@jeffrichardsoncardiy
@jeffrichardsoncardiy Год назад
Yes, for too hot or pressure problems. No sensor for fluid level. I'll be going over this stuff in the videos to come.

@Jeff Richardson Really nice work you do! Also a question... What oil do you recommend for a PDK from a GT4 with LSD? Just normal 75w90 or should it be some kind of limited slip oil additive?
@jeffrichardsoncardiy
@jeffrichardsoncardiy Год назад
I can't help you there. I don't have any experience with the LSD. Porsche docs don't talk about a different oil, so personally I'd be just using the standard spec, that being Mobilube PTX Formula A (SAE 75W-90) or equivalent.

@@jeffrichardsoncardiy I have read the internet for some hours now and I cant find an definitive answer. I have a engine and gearbox from a 718 GT4 that is drained and gong into a racecar (not porsche). That gearbox have a "mechanical lsd" what that means I dont know...

Jeff, after your successful roof guidance video on fixing my roof fault, the next thing of the radar is my PDK fluids so have watched your 3 videos covering what is needed. My car has only done 32k miles in 10.5 years so as you say, I see no real value in replacing the sump pan at a huge cost although I may still drop it, check the magnets, replace the screws. Do you think the seal should be replaced when refitting or would the OE one nip up? Main question I have is what transmission fluid would you recommend and is it the same stuff for both PDK and clutch gear oil?
@jeffrichardsoncardiy
@jeffrichardsoncardiy Год назад
Honestly, I wouldn't bother dropping the pan. Unless it's leaking the seal will be good, and there is little point to checking the magnets. The small amount of debris build up will just continue, and cleaning makes no difference. Especially at that mileage. Changing the bolts won't do anything for you. Regarding the fluids, they are definitely different. I don't use the OE fluids as they are very expensive and this buys you nothing. It's the spec that counts. I use locally made 'Nulon' fluids here in Australia, but you just need to find a brand that makes the correct spec. Clutch oil is a specific type of ATF. It's normally talked about as FFL-3. Sometimes the manufacturer won't say this in the spec, but will list that it's suitable for the Porsche or ZF part number From the ZF fluid list it has: 1. Clutch section Fuchs Titan FFL-3 => ZF Oil No. 0671.090.534 (ZF LifeguardFluid 7.3 DCT) => Porsche Oil No. 999.917.080.00 Gear oil is fully synthetic 75W-90 hypoid gear oil. This is pretty easy to find as it's used in a lot of modern differentials. From the ZF fluid list it has: 2. Transmission section ExxonMobil Mobilube PTX 75W-90 => Porsche Oil No. 999.917.067.00 or => Porsche Oil No. 999.917.090.00

Thanks Jeff, your advice on not dropping the pan are my sentiments entirely. My Boxster leads a very sedate life, first owner was a woman who did 4k miles per year for 4 years, second owner had the car for 3 months (long story - blocked roof drains) and I have owned the car since Feb 2017. Being a marine engineer for 10 years then a shoreside engineer surveyor for over 30 years (and worked on cars for the same 40 years), I never see the point of rigidly sticking to a maintenance schedule unless there is an absolute need to. Thanks again. Your videos and advice are priceless.

One last question though, capacities. PDK transmission is 6 litres I think, how much is needed for the clutch oil?
@jeffrichardsoncardiy
@jeffrichardsoncardiy Год назад
@@keithhancock9647 Whilst there is a bit less than 6 litres in the clutch section, you will only get about half out. Have a look at the video I made on how to get the most out. This way you can get a little over 3 litres out. The gear oil section will allow you to drain most of it out, this being about 2.5 litres. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dTzK7xbZQyM.html
