I'm so glad I drove up to Grand-con to meet Tom Vasel and give him this game to review. I wanted to get this game some love out there because it's flown way under the radar. I was very happy to see he loved it and added it to his collection. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
We bought this game for a cabin trip with a friend. Ended up playing total of 30 games and both of us won 15 each. Really simple yet complex game with some crucial decision making. Highly recommended.
I usually don't buy a game without doing extensive research but a couple of years when I was visiting Germany I bought this game on a whim (I wanted to buy a German game as a souvenir). Boy did I luck out because this game is terrific and everyone I have taught it to loves it as well! I can't believe it hasn't gotten a US release.
Absolutely great game. Everyone who has played it has enjoyed it and things can turn round very quickly at times especially if you waste money on a few cards and miss a good one. Works superbly with two players as much as it does with a full house.
This game is one of my favorites! a lot of fun and plays quikly. also fun with only two players, but best with more! A classic at our home and a great gateway game!
This game looks awesome. There's a full playthrough by the Game Night crew, so check that out as well, and the way the push-your-luck mechanism is combined with the special powers, is really neat. I just received my copy, and am chomping at the bit to get it to the table-- next game night. Also the fact it's just a big deck of cards, where the cards themselves are used as coins, makes it simple but also adds an interesting factor-- that some of the cards won't come up right away because they've been used as coins.
This is a pretty cool push-your-luck filler game indeed! I only have to disagree with Vasel on one point: I think this games plays well with 3-5 players and it's even fun with 2 players. The main difference is that certain cards are more powerful with more players, so other cards become better as the playercount goes down. Also, we've played it with 6 and I can see no reason why you shouldn't be able to do so.
great game, love it! but you should always play with the advanced rules, so you need 12 victory points AND 1 expedition to win. expansion will be released these days!!
Very nifty filler game, great review as usual. Another one added to my increasingly running-out-of-space collection. Thanks Tom! Now if I can only get rid of my Star Trek book collection, I'll have more damn room... Augh... :p
Hmm, after the review I expected a bad opinion at the end of the video... Dunno what i missed during the review but this game looked terrible when i watched Tom explaining it. But like I said, I must have missed something. :P
I cringed clicking into this video, because I knew Tom would rave about it because of the speed play. Someone brought this to a meet up. It was a pretty awful experience. It's push-your-luck, but the luck can be generous to some players immediately, with them getting 3 or 4 gold after just one or two card draws and not needing to push anything. Meanwhile, another player can draw card-after-card needing money and keep going bust, and stay broke for multiple turns. It doesn't feel like push-your-luck at that point, because if a player's broke he really doesn't have any choice but to flip and pray to get some gold. Without any money, a player simply isn't in the game. Worst of all, the game wasn't even particularly short. The game's owner had to keep explaining what the cards in the offer did.
Steve Jackson Games is releasing a US version. I hate the way Tom dumps everything on the table at the beginning of reviews. Do you have any respect for your games?
