@@derpydude7000 Well, I have 2 now.. One is an extra monitor for my desktop to help with WFH. I use a "gooseneck tablet holder" to hold it above my main monitors at an angle, for Netflix/Spotify. The other one stays in my backpack. Im occasionally "on-call" as a sysadmin, it helps to be able to setup a real workstation anywhere I am. Especially since "Work from Home" is essentially "Work from anywhere" now... It also is nice for gaming on the go, I've used it at friends houses with my OG Xbox (diy'd a 'Xbox2Hdmi'), N64 (UltraHDMI), and Xbox One X.
Hey there! Thanks for the detailed review of the Lepow 15.6" portable monitor. It sounds like a versatile device, especially with the USB Type-C and HDMI capabilities. I'm considering getting one myself, but I have a few questions: 1. How's the overall build quality of the monitor? Does it feel sturdy and durable? 2. Can you comment on the color accuracy and viewing angles of the IPS display? 3. Have you experienced any latency issues when using it for gaming or other tasks? 4. Does it come with a protective case or cover for when you're on the go? I appreciate your insights, and they will help me make an informed decision. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this product!
This is perfect for a mini itx build i have for lan parties, both hdmi and usb power provided by the pc. No more carrying around a monitor with a bulky ppwer supply. I was really close to buy a gechic monitor for almost 300 bucks. Thanks ETA Prime.
The world needs more of these usb powered portable monitors with HDMI. Since a couple of years ago, there were a lot of portable monitors that used only USB for power and video display, and I really couldn't find myself wanting to buy one. These newer ones make a ton more sense. Hope that the plastic in there is all matte and I can see that the panel itself is matte, so all good for me there.
I have this monitor. I use it with my xbox x when I'm in a hotel. I pack it all in a small pelican case. I love it! The only thing is, it doesnt remember your brightness setting after you turn it off. I mute the speakers because I use headsets. If there is lag, I dont notice it. Been playing Gears 5 and Division 2 on it
Hi ETA P - would switching to and from Landscape and Portrait mode via HDMI/HDMImini with a laptop require additional drivers/software? Thanks for the informative walkthrough - really helpful.
What is the build quality like? Other portables get poor reviews after a few months of use. Curious to know if you’ll be doing a follow up review later.
Well I can tell you from my experience the build quality isn't that great on some of the other brands. I am currently returning my second one to Amazon because it stopped working after a week or two.
@@KippyKipKip except that one would be a displaylink monitor. It requires specific drivers and software to work. This monitor uses hdmi/mhl input over usb-c or micro hdmi. A completely different and more worthwhile capability. My previous portable monitor was a gechic one, it worked well and had more input options than this but it cost about twice the cost of this one. I've just pulled the trigger on one of these as that usb-C mhl single cable support is awesome for my use case. I'm planning on using it for work too and I'm a consultant so I'm constantly on the road, so it'll have a tough life, I will report back here with an update once I've used it a while if it'll help folk.
It's insane that you can run a 15 inch laptop screen with 1080p quality (better then my current laptop screen) at any location with only a small slim USB C cable. Imagine being stuck in an airport or coach station for several hours or possibly over night. Using a phone screen is okay but watching a movie or TV Show or playing a game say on your PS4 plugged into the airport plug socket + 15 inch screen would be such an awesome way to pass the time. I really want to get this one but I don't think they sell to the UK. Are there any UK sellers you'd recommend for around £100-150. All the ones with USB C and slim design are £200 or £200+
Be neat to see you run a sbc with this monitor. Use some good double sided tape on the case to stick it behind the screen and you have a nice portable device with a larger screen.
Yan Lovsi nothing was wrong with it, it’s just a lot better to play with a portable monitor I can take in my backpack. The dock can even power up the monitor so you just need one outlet which is super convenient
ETA, didn't you do a video 2 or 3 years ago, where you powered a Pi 3 with a solar power battery? It would be cool if you did another video like that, maybe with the Pi 4 this time, hooked up to a monitor like this, if it were possible. I thought that video was pretty neat.
If you use the usb c port on the other side will it feed the display or is that only for power? I want to get 2 of these so I want the cables to be on opposite sides of the laptop. Thanks.
Will this monitor wake up on receiving a signal, or do you have to manually power it on? I'm thinking of making a bar top arcade machine with a raspberry pi and using this as a monitor.
I've been powering the monitor via the right side USB-C port using a USB battery bank or power supply. Power passes on through the USB-C port on the left side. This has worked for my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Nintendo Switch without having a secondary power supply. But if I use my Samsung phone in Dex mode I do need a secondary power supply for the Dex-compatible USB-C hub.
@@poopsnorkeler huh nice! I actually just dropped something on my laptop and broke the screen... So I was going to buy a 15.6" screen and lvds driver and make a custom hinge that would either fold tablet mode screen out or in tall mode like in this video. I also have a EGPU that would be powering this, and to power the egpu I was going to make a custom battery to power everything. I could probably get pretty good battery life even with powering the gpu at 50W
@@Zero21x The power bank I have has 4 lights to indicate the charge remaining and after about 3 hours of powering the monitor with it I only lost 1 light so I figure I should get maybe 12 hours of use on a full charge. I believe I had the monitor brightness set to around 60%. This monitor seems pretty good on sipping power. Hope this helps!
Potential deal breaker for me: does it have black level control? I'm watching this on my phone with a bad signal so I can't read the menus. The Eyoyo brand portable monitor doesn't have that and it's awful when you look at anything dark. Resident Evil is almost unplayable. The Uperfect monitor does have black level control but it's a 10w monitor.
Does it have its own internal battery? Or is it always taking battery life from the device connected to it? Also if it does have battery, how long does it run for, 3 hours?
This seems like very useful second monitor for college! No need to bring a clunky normal monitor, just this and hook it up to my laptop. Gonna check it out
So when you demo the s10 with video playback, you had black bars on the sides and bottom/top, I notice the same thing on my OnePlus...any experience on forcing a resolution over usb-c? Every option I've seen requires root at the least, would be curious if you had any tips or guides.
I think that just might be a video playback setting like normal, zoom, stretch, etc. When I use my Slingbox to watch videos on my old Samsung Note 8 with or without using the portable monitor I can control the video output through the app. When I'm using Dex it uses the full screen of the monitor.
I have a 17" Gaems portable monitor, uses micro usb but has no speakers. This seems much more useful than that one. What would happen if you hooked a Nintendo Switch usb-c to usb-c? Would it work as an external monitor or would you need the dock?
Will the USB-C connection work with the ASRock A300 case? I know it has a HDMI port but I am curious if the computer can output display through the front USB-C jack to the USB-C of the monitor.
I think you said it has 2 USB-C ports on each end? If so can you plug your phone in and then the phone charger on the other end of the monitor and it will charge your phone as you use it?
Can you hook up a powered USB c hub between the phone and the Samsung and still use the type c? (a C from the hub as video or will video not go through that way)
Thanks for the video, Herat Shsmong Galaxy Dex operating system works when there is an additional power connection, but does Dex works even without an additional power connection? If not, does Galaxy Note 10 work? Thanks
I've had this monitor on my list since I first saw your review of it when this video was pretty new. I had planned to get a Pi 4 to go with this, but just haven't done it yet. I would love to see a Pi-Top with this monitor, but I don't have anywhere near the skill and exactly none of the tools to do something so complicated. It would probably be like when Ben Heck converted an XBox 360 into a laptop. I'd love to see someone do it but haven't found anything like it yet. I guess what I'm getting at is thanks for the video, both from past-me when it was newer and present me.
Can it send power to the phone or a computer through the USB-C port? would be great to only have one cable to the monitor than one charger to the monitor.
That particular model display has been available for sale on aliexpress for over 2 years+. A newer variant is less then 1/2 the weight with similar specs. Of course that model is 300+ USD and this is sold on amazon so you don’t wait on shipping from china.
Any opinion on using this as a portable HTPC with a SBC for on the go entertainment in a vehicle. Powered entirely by the car ( SBC HTPC like lattepanda) and this monitor.
It works with the Nintendo Switch using the included cables and the Nintendo Switch's AC adapter to power the monitor. No dock necessary! Other power supplies may work as well. I was able to use one of my USB battery packs instead of the AC adapter and it worked fine for a truly portable experience! It's a great monitor!
@@Natsukashii1111 It's a Tzumi - PocketJuice 20,000 mAh Portable Charger model 4674BB-2 that I bought from Best Buy back in January 2018. Its output is rated at 5V/4.2A max.
