One question: Did you ever try out polarization filters in front of the flash and camera to reduce the glare on dark skin/tattoes?

No, for a couple of reasons. The main being that I'm usually working at the edge of the amount of light my portable flashes can put out, so adding polarisation to both the flash and lens would be a non-starter there. Then, of course there's the additional time. Not everyone is willing to wait around for extra setup and testing. I'd prefer just to work with what's there.
