Portraits with the Leica Summicron M 90mm pre-ASPH feat. Skye Baker

I look at the Leica Summicron M 90mm F/2 pre-ASPH (E55) lens for the real world use of portraits. Skye Baker is the model for this episode and was really awesome and easy to work with.
I look at using the lens on a Leica M 240, using both the Optical View Finder and Live View (EVF as well).
I also do a comparison with the Konica M-Hexanon 90mm F/2.8, and see how it performs against the 90 Summicron version II (E55).

Thanks for the video. I use my 90mm Summicron for portraits. However, I am unable to use the lens to capture the tight face shots that I like because the lens lacks close-focus features. Plus, Skye Bvker has the perfect face for tight face portraits.

brilliant video,,,i use a 1.4 magnifier on my m262 with my 90mm f2.8 tele-elmarit and have found it works very well,,,,,,,do you have any thoughts on that? the tele-elmarit is also a mandler lens.

I never tired a magnifier, maybe I should??? I think the tele elmarit, would be a good lens as well for portraits :)

@@GuamPhotography my tele-elmarit is the thin version 1974-90[mine 1984] and for me is true to the leica idea of great quality in a small package,a marvel of engineering.,,,,the summicrom you reviewed is of course a beautiful lens.

Beaches and Leica always scare me. Are the camera and lens weatherized?

I believe the M 240 and Leica lenses are weather resistant, but not weather proof. I have gotten it wet before, but just briefly in the rain, and its fine! So shooting at the beach, WITHOUT dropping it in the water would be okay! haha

I believe its "Leica Visoflex EVF 2 Electronic Viewfinder" but I used the Olympus VF2.

@ 2:02 Why is your Shutter speed so high at 1/1500 sec????????? Why not 1/200 sec?

It was one of the first shots at around 5pm, sun is still pretty bright, it doesn't set in the summer until almost 7pm. So thats why the shutter was pretty high, to cut most of the light and to have proper exposure.

I found out later the RF and lens was mis aligned, got it aligned in Leica Ginza, Tokyo, Japan :)

oh nooooo! I was looking to buy a 90mm pre-asph, but why do i think konica is way better in terms of color contrast and sharpness

I think main factor is the price of course, and you can always add additional contrast and sharpness in post processing, both lenses are quite good!

Not sure if the konica has asph design, but it definitely looks more modern. It probably sits between pre-asph and 90 apo in terms of sharpness. Wondering how they perform on film. Maybe pre-asph is better on film.

I sometimes see cameras that have no AA filter, have a 'Leica look' to it, but I think the Leica look comes from its lenses. Thanks for the comment!

'Summicron' tells you that the maximum aperture IS f2. You don't have to repeat the widest aperture value by saying "Summicron f2".

Not exactly, Summicron is the name of the lens design. For example, there have been Leica 50mm Summarit lenses that have been f1.5, f2.4, and f2.5.. Same thing with the Summilux, the 28mm Summilux on the Leica Q is an f1.7 lens even though the Summilux lenses tend to be f1.4
