Over at Authentic Simulation we've been cooking something for the last 18 months, and our Kickstarter prelaunch page is finally live!
The Portugal Openworld Project is an open world map mod for Assetto Corsa (PC). Explore, drift, rally, and race your way around one of the largest and most detailed open world maps ever created for a sim racing game! This is your only opportunity to help shape portions of the map, such as getting a mailbox in front of a random home or even customizing the design of your house, including the textures. Your support will help us add assets and expand the map, which already has 136km of roads and millions of trackside details! And if we reach some of our largest stretch goals we will also develop a standalone game which will come to PC, Xbox & Playstation.

Perfect project! Really counting on it! Just one or two pointers: The lanes in Portugal are far more narrow. I believe this is a big detail that you guys should consider working on because it is really a defining aspect of these roads, especially in citys and rural areas or "Nacional" where the landscape is filled with narrow lanes, lots of tiny fixed potholes and debry and impredictable curves. Also the lines of the lanes are more thick. GOOD WORK!!

Also the idea of having a open world is great but maybe it would be better to divide cities in different maps so that it can be playable for low end users and also to better develop this maps.

This is incredible. 10/10 just for the ambition of the project. Until we push the boundaries of what is possible, we will always be stagnant in what we can achieve. I absolutely love it. This will become THE place to drive those ridiculous number of road cars I've got sitting on my hard drive.

you know this could be used for the perfect rally expirience, as in you start driving from point a to b, then do a special stage, then drive to the next special stage and do that, then drive to the service zone etc. i know ac isn't really suited for something like this but, done privately maybe in a server with people taking times etc. could be kinda done. it would probably be a first since every rally games only does special stages

Hmm... I really like this idea in a way. Perhaps an addition to the map could be assisted with by community members. Obviously we have to achieve a certain quality level, so the core needs to stay tied to our internal team.

So, Assetto Crossed with TDU (Classic) Crossed with Forza Horizon? Looks *Very* Promising IMO! I will not be able to Contribute money sadly, but I really do hope you meet the Goal to Make a Standalone (with offline Single Player Racing please for the Standalone) Game, a Proper Horizon Rival that Contains a lot of Classic TDU elements, with Assetto Physics...(Maybe you can get the EVO engine from Kunos? they seem like the Kind of Developer who would indeed Help if you do go Standalone!) umm are the roads supposed to be 5 e30s wide?

@@jrgennodeland8323 the main roads are 1.25x width I believe. One reason for this is because we need the extra width to ensure extremely reliable AI traffic as they traverse the map. While sideroads and freeways are 1:1 scale.

I just personally dont like when you can overtake easily by just driving in the middle of the road. the ai stuff makes sense, and this project isnt made personally for me anyways 😁

Major roads are ~1.25x width to aid technical performance. For example to ensure AI performs flawlessly. Meanwhile side streets and freeways are 1x scale, and there will also be tight dirt paths and cobblestone alleyways.
