Portuguese and Spanish are so alike, however i'm learning Portuguese from English because there's lot of more material than in my first language (Spanish) isn't it ironic?

As with everything actually. Everything on the internet is more abundant in english and if that happens to not be the case sometime, someone somehow will make it in english. I'm learning French, Japanese and German through English videos & material.

Actually, in Brazilian Portuguese, the most common sound for the letter "o" at the end of words is something close to the short "u" as in "push". And the sound of the letter "r" in the beginning of a word usually makes a VOICED "h" sound (as in "aha", when you agree with sb) but, since there's a large variety of accents, it can make the fricative sounds that we find in the Spanish "j" or (in some southern accents) even the Spanish /r/.

You have forgotten to mention the /χ/ sound, which is pretty common in standard pronunciation of Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, and other places in words such as porta /'pɔχ.tɐ/ (door) and mercado /meχ.'ka.du/ (market). You didn't either mention that in those regions and others the final R in verb infinitives and some nouns is completely silent.

The R has, in some accents, difference before a consonant and as final letter of the word. In mine(caipira), as example, we use the /ɹ/ sound in this cases, and in São Paulo city and the South of country, these cases are a /ɾ/ too.

Are you sure the R phoneme really doesn't exist in English? The American pronunciation of the T in 'better' or 'letter' sounds exactly like the Portuguese R to my Brazilian ears.

@@vinicius7179 I think "better" and "caro" have identical flaps because of the R at the end of "better". When there's no R at the end the sound is different. Its a shorter sound: "that I", "but I" "wait a minute" etc.

Fun with Portuguese is no longer available on Udemy. Do you by chance know of an alternative? I have lifetime Semantica membership so I have that covered and I'm here. I was thinking of getting the mimic method but it's very expensive and I don't know if the guy actually honors the 60 day satisfaction guaranteed refund policy. Found this video series since I'm not willing to spend $200 US on the chance that Mimic method is actually that good, or if not I could get a refund.

This is a very helpful material for foreign students to study and learn Portuguese. Excellent! However, I would like to share some features of the Brazilian Portuguese language since I'm a native speaker. The affricate sounds, phonetically represented by 't' [tʃ] and 'd' [ʤ] before [e] or [i] are phonetic models for a "standard" Brazilian Portuguese which is used to study the language, but in several other regions 't' and 'd' are, respectively, [t] voiceless alveolar plosive and [d] voiced alveolar plosive in any case. For example, 'tomate' [tomatʃi] and 'bonde' [bonʤi, they sound [tomati] and [bondi]]. Other interesting feature is that 'nh' and 'lh' don't sound, respectively, exactly as [ɲ] and [ʎ] in Brazilian Portuguese, but as [n̠ʲ] and [l̠ʲ] The sound /ɲ/ in 'conhecer' [kon̠ʲesex] sounds a little bit softer than, for example, 'año' [aɲo] (Spanish) and 'montagna' [montaɲa] (Italian). The sound [ʎ] can sometimes sound different, as in 'alho' [al̠ʲu] instead of [aʎu]. If you compare to 'família' [famil̠ʲɐ], you can see that they sound the same, but they are written differently. But, in a general way, it's a great content. I find all the videos really useful for my studies! 👏👏

hey you all viewers pay atenttion to the "h" sound. because it is not a glottal voiceless fricative like in english. I think its a epiglotal voiceless fricative. (not the same shit) they both sound alike but they are not the same. pay attention to that and comment if you find info about it. great video by the way.
