Glutamine for muscle growth and more?
There is much more to glutamine from a wellness point :

* muscle building: Glutamine is an amino acid found largely in muscle. It helps in improving the anabolic condition of the body by building and maintaining muscle growth. And also helps prevents catabolic conditions by preventing muscle loss.
* Intestinal health: As the saying goes, Disease starts in the gut. Glutamine helps to strengthen the lining of the intestinal tract so that the nutrients can be absorbed effectively. This improves the immune function which is critical for digestive health.
* Liver: it enhances antioxidant protection, also helps with healing liver.
* helps in maintaining Acid alkaline balance which is very important for the balance of our bodies.
* GABA: also increases GABA which is a neurotransmitter, important for brain function, mental activity and relaxation
* Reduces sugar and alcohol cravings, can be useful for recovering alcoholics.
* But it should not be taken by individuals who have liver and kidney problems, because what happens is the amino acid is broken down into nitrogen and of-course body needs nitrogen but free nitrogen can form ammonia which is toxic to brain tissues, but the ones who have a proper functioning liver, liver can convert nitrogen into urea which is excreted in the urine.
Most of the quality protein sources have glutamine in them. But, if you are inclined towards taking it in a supplemental form, 5grams is good for daily consumption.

high protein foods like eggs, fish and basically meat sources contain glutamine. vegetable sources include cabbage, spinach, parsley and beets.
