Goes to show that fault codes are just a guideline and may not always point you directly to the problem.

Thumbs up for letting me know at the beginning of the video that I don't need to watch it since my car runs. Saved me the frustration of watching a video only to realize it doesn't apply!

Thanks this was useful, my car is p0340, it has had new CPS .... but same fault occurs. My car is intermittetent wont start. Has been checked by auto electrician... few people have said stretched time chain (toyota) its an expensive repair, if that isnt the problem. But interesting to see you found similar.

🤦🏼‍♂️. I did same thing. Bought a donor/parts car for my Ferrari. (07, g35 sedan 6MT). I thought I would have a little look see at an easy fix. P0345 code…not a problem, just grab a little cam sensor from my car and presto ! ….40 hours of my labour later and she is still crippled. It’s running better for sure but still haven’t solved. …new (spare parts from other car) bank 2 cam exhaust sensors, new coil packs, plugs, VVT solenoid, injectors, and battery. Along with cleaning and adding grounding, cleaning throttle bodies, new plenum gasket, gasket sealer on all spark plug tubes/valve cover, clean MAF, check vacuum leaks. ….only thrown 1 code this entire time. …found many issues that should have been the fix…but not. Leaking injector, vacuum leak, VVT solenoid not operational, battery would hold charge, misfire due to oil leaking into spark plug tube. Fixed all that and …Still throwing p0345 😂. There are an insane amount of variables that can throw code and throw off engine. Still havin fun and haven’t even spent $200 yet.

Good on you Bill..I picked an "out of time" cam..Rule of thumb is that an engine should run(poorly) with a faulty cam sensor...Looks like the belt got toasted from a seized idler or water pump..Seen it before many too many times...Honda's do awesome damage so an autopsy would be for a good vid at least lift a head.

Any idea on 06 odyssey that over heated and won’t start. I got the p0340 code, new sensor but same thing. Wires seem to read good with multimeter.

Alternators can cause this code causing too much AC ripple.
@EddieRiff

@florenbaron: Spit on. A faulty voltage regulator on the alternator cause it. Noise sent along the harness it can trigger the dreaded tail chaser p0340 code.

You don’t have to pull the covers off they have windows or you can check the belt without pulling the covers off and there’s a mark down on harmonic balancer to check top dead center

most likely valves are that badly bent you wont get any compression, you could have used your diagnostic tool gone into live data and checked the synchronisation. normally your scanner should say p0340 circuit failure witch is usually wireing p0340 ground to earth witch is sensor or p0340 signal incoherence with is timing or snapped cams

I really wish you'd check out my 2011 Chrysler Town and Country. You really sound like you're profoundly versed on the mechanics of a vehicle. I have a 2011 Chrysler Town and Country. I've had intermittent starting issues ever since I bought my car. I've had the battery replaced and the starter replaced. Neither replacement helped anything. I've not only had intermittent starting issues, but I've also had weird acceleration issues. When I try speeding up, sometimes my RPM's will jump from 1500 to 3000. I've also had a camshaft position sensor code come up (which has just been replaced twice) and it's still coming up. My second mechanic put in a new catalytic converter. I recently had a blinking check engine light, so I immediately pulled my car over and called a tow truck to tow it 74 miles to a new mechanic, because at this point, he'd be my third mechanic to try to fix these wierd issues. He put in new cam position sensors, but when I went to go pick it up, it was still driving weird, and the next morning, by check engine light was on again. Sometimes the traction control light comes on with the check engine light (they come on at the same time). The last time I started my car, the traction control light and the check engine light came on together, but it was driving without issue earlier the same that day. When I proceeded to drive it home 3 miles away, I was near my exit on the freeway, and all of a sudden, my car would not accelerate AT ALL. Usually, when I've had acceleration issues, my car would all of a sudden get up to speed, but not this time. I basically coasted home and I did not drive it until I was able to get it into another mechanic's. One week later I was able to get my car into my 4th mechanic, I was afraid to drive my car there but this mechanic was only 2 miles away. This time, when I started my vehicle, the check engine light came on but not the traction control light. It drove fine. Oh, did I mention that when my traction control light is on, it's usually bone dry... no snow, no rain, dry roads. I did put in a new ground strap on my own because I noticed it was green. That has helped my non-starting issues (it's certainly not as frequent anymore). I also put in a new camshaft position sensor myself (the one near the firewall side of the engine) because I've just spend so much money trying to get my car fixed. But, of course, a couple days later, the check engine light came on again. But it's weird because my third mechanic said that I had a bad camshaft position sensor, so he replaced that and the crankshaft position sensor. Then, like I said, the next day, it happened again... no start, then weird acceleration issues, then a few days later, no acceleration AT ALL while I was pressing the gas. This 4th mechanic said he can't duplicate the issue so he can't fix it. I'm really so very frustrated. I'm out of money, and to put the cherry on this, my job is to grocery shop for people and drop off their groceries. I had to take this job because I have a neck injury which prevents me from doing the types of jobs I used to. I bought the van a little over a year ago and I'm just so frustrated. I'm afraid to drive it. Also, sometimes my rear camera does not come on when I'm backing up. I'm just so darned lost.

@@AbnormalArtsDOTcom not too familiar with american cars but i would check the wires and the plug on the cam sensor for power ground and trigger, if thats ok i would check for cam crank synchronization with diagnostic tool it could be crank sensor causing issues also causes bad starting,if all these check good good could be be stretched timing chain/belt.not sure about traction light but some cars like mazda put alot of warning lights on for a simple fault

@@mikedoblo4782 Hi Mike. Thanks so much for replying to me. I was so surprised that you did, and so quickly! It's funny that you mention the timing belt. One day I went to start my car and it made a large thudding noise, as it immediately died. I opened my hood and saw a pine cone sitting on the inside of the front passenger side quarter panel (above where the wheel sits). I'm a female and not a mechanic, so if I'm not naming that correctly, please excuse me. I thought it was strange that there was a pinecone sitting there. Strangely, I tried to start my car after about 10 minutes of just sitting there because I couldn't get a ride. It started right up. I thought that the belt kicked out the pinecone just because of the sound that it made. I went home and let my car sit for about an hour to let the engine cool a bit, then I turned my wheel so I could get my finger to touch the belt from underneath my car. I checked to see if there was any play and it seemed pretty taut, but I'm not a mechanic. I don't even know if that would be the alternator belt or timing chain (or are they one in the same? UHGG!!). The belt is rubber, and the inside has nubs like teeth. I could feel the teeth. Do you think that this may be causing my problems with that sensor code to keep coming back on? P.S... Thanks again for your reply earlier.

Thanks Mike. Are those things that I mechanic could have found out when they each had my car? I don't have a scanner. I went to O'Reilly's to use theirs then I got it to a mechanic and explained all of my symptoms. If they could have done this test and didn't, I'm kind of shocked.

Yeah Honda needs love. When I bought our 2008 Honda Odyssey I had the timing belt, water pump, antifreeze, brake fluid, transmission fluid and oil changed because I didn't know who had what done. But I'm now getting a camshaft sensor B circuit 1 code. My husband checked it. I don't know the number because he erased it before I even made it outside. I'm like hunny you should of wrote the code down. So I know it's not the timing belt. We only put 7,000 miles on it. I keep up with everything

Alot of times on honda odyssey is the timming belt TENSIONER is bad and the belt now has slack . . Not tight at all . Infamous on Odyssey years 2005-2010 Powersteering fluid leaking down the reservoir onto the timming belt cover , causing the fluid to jump on the belt and travel to the tensioner .... (Army Grenade type - pull pin tensioner) ANY HONDA ODYSSEY VAN IT IS CRUCIAL TO CHAINGE TIMMING BELT BY THE BOOK OR EVEN BEFORE RECOMMENDED . I stop buying HONDA due to TIMMING BELT nightmares .
