hey thank you for the video, you are the only one on internet who actually does show where the sensor is. that is enough then other people can choose to do it your way or do it while changing the timing belt. thanks again
Work petty good for me,i just did it today on my 05 Odyssey, fix my missfire problem the i was troubleshooting for about a month already, and today i found my problem thanks to this video, thanks Brother learning something new every day
For those that say this can’t be done this way is absolutely wrong. I just changed my cam sensor using this method. Thanks for the video. I’m not gonna lie, it was pretty tricky but doable.
Wow!! I'm going to replace my sensor this weekend. I called a mechanic and they said the same thing (re-do timing, and 4+ hour job). Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
+Hilario Cardenas Hey thank you for taking the time to watch my video My humble channel is based on sharing something that will help someone in the right time at the right project!! Love youTube Don’t forget to LIKE SHARE AND SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE Have a blessed day!
Outstanding, and thank you! Do you know what causes the VSA light with the explanation triangle? From what I've read the engine is running in limp mode. I have codes for a crankshaft position sensor, and a 02 sensor (P0389, and P0420). We have a '06 Odyssey.
+Hilario Cardenas Hey thanks taking the time to watch! Definably the crank sensor code will send the ecm on VSA mode. That one would be the cause if your problem i bet. Don’t forget to LIKE SHARE AND SUBSCRIBE for more! Have a blessed day!
@@GeneralMechanicGA here's an update from my attempt. sad to say .... I had a hard time trying to pull out the CMP sensor after successfully removing the 8mm bolt off the sensor. It seems as if the sensor doesn't have enough room to come out. Any suggestion at this point? I also had the starter taken out too just to have it tested and it tested good. Darn, was crossing my fingers that it fails so I don't have to deal with the CMP sensor lol
Hey imma tell you Sensor will not come out just like that If you get it out as far as it will go then you twist it down and back like if you are facing front of engine (belts side) you will push left down and it will come out! Now ill tell you be sure that you have the bolt holding tab to the opposite side than you will be pushing
Here's my update. I was able to pull it out as you mention. Although I did find an engine similar to mines at the junk yard and had some practice taking out the sensor, tt really does take a lot of small wiggling and pulling it out. But sadly, the sensor wasn't a fix for me. The Honda Pilot is still dead... "Crank, no start" But at least I avoid spending hundreds of Benjamins at the shop. Especially avoiding the removal of my timing belt.
Hey, it took me a few times watching the vid to figure out the sensors locale. Went out and removed, replaced and lost the bolt in less then 1/2 hour. So yes it can be done. NOT BS or a scam!
Thank you for the video.Took me 2 hours that 8mm bolt is a pain, I covered all gaps with rags just Incase the bolt falls because I dropped it and it’s hard to find . Got it done with a small wrench
This process took me at least 7 hours to do as it was trial and error getting the Camsensor and bolt back in, not easy to turn that 8mm bolt! I had one heck of a time getting my bolt out AND pulling the sensor. But the worst part is trying to put the New Cam sensor and bolt back in! ALSO. Make sure you stuff a rag down there as you WILL drop the bolt. I did and event though I had a magnet could not find it. Once I put in the rag though, It made finding the bolt SO much easier, so do NOT skip this step! Stuff a Rag down there and have a antenna type magnet so you can get that bolt. (I bought 4 extra 8mm little bolts 3/4" long from the hardware store before I even started this, as well as the 12mm 3" bolt mentioned below) I suggest you take the 2 12 mm bolts out holding the plate, and to get even more room as I needed it to turn the 8mm bolt I had to not only take off the black timing bolt cover but loosened the cam pully too go get even more room. There simply STILL was not enough room to replace the Cam Sensor and tighten the 8mm bolt. I needed to also loosen the CAM Bolt and pull the CAM Pully out somewhat so I got even more room. What I did was take the 2 12 mm bolts out, AND INSTALL a LONG (3") 12 mm bolt and hand threaded it in so if I loosened the cam bolt and pully too much, the CAM would not lose timing and would stay in place. I needed to loosen the CAM Bolt and CAM so I could pull the plate out further. That LONG 12mm bold was my safety bolt in the event I loosened the cam bolt and pulled the CAM Sprocket too far out. Fortunately I didn't and therefore kept the timing belt in time, if that makes sense. BEWARE if you loosen that CAM Bolt too far and pry the CAM too far, you'll be resetting the timing belt! (I think I went out maybe 4-5 full turns, then pried the pully. I have bragged how Honda's engineers always made it easy for the Mechanic... But not in this case... Putting it back in place was the WORST Part! To tighten the 8mm bolt on the Cam Sensor I used an 8mm Combination wrench after MANY trial's and errors! AND that was Angling the closed end of the wrench to get it to tighten the bolt. Good Luck and Be Careful if you're gonna pull that cam pully bolt!
Quite difficult, but can be done. Have to pivot the sensor in order to clear the backside for the sensor to come out. A rag underneath is vital or you will most likely lose the bolt down there.
Yep, you WILL Drop that bolt, and you WILL need a rag down there before starting and you WILL need an Antenna type magnet so you can grab the dropped bolt. I probably dropped the bolt 10x when trying to reinstall.
good job, mine had the same issue. if going change that part for $100 bucks (party only), you might as well change the water pump too. no way to do all that and not change the waterpump and belts when you already taken it out too. i did that and changed the power steering pump too, don't want to dig my hand through that crunk again. my odyssey is a 2007 with 120k miles and cheesy code popped up P0344 code... if anyone pays someone to do it, the labor will be around $300 to start. just so people know, the car is drive-able with no issues, just a weird sound. I just my car for over a month.
@General Mechanic The one you remove is camshaft position sensor B, Is Camshaft position sensor A possible to remove without taking the timing cover off and belt? I haven't look at the car yet but just watching your video and was hoping to avoid taking timing belt out. I just wanted to know if possible taking the other camshaft position out.
this method worked great until i realized my 2002 has two attached to each other im hoping that removing the alternator will allow me access to the other one
Totally works. Definitely not easy, but it does work. Again, it was still a huge pain in the Honda to get it out, but works! I used the skinniest 5/16 wrench (Craftsman) I had which worked better than my 8mm. Hope this was the problem! Power steering fluid leaked a little upside-down like that
I did the timing belt and all , camshaft sensor went bad , I followed your instructions , I got the bolt out , but I cant get the sensor out... any tips on how to position the sensor to pull out?
Aida Ferret Hey yes If you position the sensor with the connector side facing down slide it out and note it will not just slide u will have to push it down so it can pop out! Same way to put it in it will not just slide in you will have to force it little bit in but it will be just fine Let me know if i can be of more help! I have an old engine at the shop i could do a small video on this! Hey thanks for watching the video.. And don’t forget to subscribe!
What type of wrench did you use? I went through a bunch of 8mm open ended wrenches and broke the bolt loose, but can't get the wrench back on to get another turn out of the bolt
@@GeneralMechanicGA NO WAY! I'm not calling you a liar. I got the bolt out after about 4 hours with the grace of God. The bolt and washer fell into the abyss and it is impossible to spin the sensor female end down to slide the sensor out. I don't know how you did it, but it just proved itself impossible to do.
I have few engines swap jobs at the shop now I am planning on making another video while replacing it and try my best to record it and post so hopefully I can share more detailed version of this video!...
Thanks for this video. I got the sensor out and i got the new sensor in, but I can’t figure out how to get that 8mm back in. I’ve spent 2hrs on it and had to fish it out of the engine compartment 4 times. Maddening! Any recommendations?
Wow my recommendation is really pay attention that the sensor is lined up right where hole is at. I know is tight but im telling you is better than doing all the timing belt job!. Thanks for taking the time to watch! Don’t forget to subscribe for more!..
On my 04 there is a second cam sensor on the other side of the cam, has anyone removed that one? I removed the one described in the video the way this guy did but mine has two cam sensors on one plug
I working on a 2007 Odyssey, in order to remove the cam sensor without removing timing belt you have to loosen the two bolts behind the camshaft sproket, wiggle the plate, and this will give you the extra room to slide the sensor out. Hope it helps.
Wow its been a while since i did it but if I could explain I think the plug had to be facing down like at 4:00 🕓 but hopefully you get to get it out Is a tight task but got it done im pretty sure you can too!.. Please let me know if you get to do it ok! I think i have a van at shop I could try to post a quick video about it Monday
Choua Vang Hey No nothing to do with the transmission. The reason was a crank no start situation This sensor is the one that controls signal to the fuel injection. So if this is bad, the will be no fuel injection pulse on injectors. Hope this helps! And thanks for taking the time to watch!
@@GeneralMechanicGA Honda pilot 2003 ! My problem is #1-2-3 cylinders with the engine running they don't function. And everything to function are there. Then I disabled #4-5-6 By disconnecting the coils. Start the engine and they #1-2-3 work. Then reconnect the other bank and they stop working....Is my problem related with any REGIME or SANCTIONS??? Jajaja⚠🗿
medievalmusiclover Hey Thank you for taking the time to watch my video according to my experience yes it is possible I have done it not only one time but few if you think you need a little more information than what the video shows feel free to ask I may put a Video when I’m taking the sensor out since it’s a question that everybody is asking
Hi, thank You for getting back to the message. I am already subscribed to Your videos. I will contact You if I need helps. Good job with Your videos keep going.
I have a question, Sir. I have an error 0341 CMP sensor and the same time says CKP sensor incorrect phase detected. This report was made by Auto Zone, what's that meaning?
Hi, After giving my Honda Odyssey 2006 a jumpstart it started fine. But the dashboard had no light. The only lights were on was the brake lights the seatbelts and the VSA light on the dashboard. The gas gauge was on E while it was running even though I have a full tank. I ran it for about five minutes. I put it in reverse the engine shut off on me. It wouldn’t start back on. And now I have No headlights. What could be the problem? Maybe the alternator not the starter?
You sure have a electrical problem Now you really need a diagnostic on that I would start by seen if you have voltage even though I doubt cause you have to jump start it so possible a bad alternator but will need to diagnose it for closer idea!
I have a 2006 Honda odyssey it gives me the code P2649 Rocker arm oil control solenoid VTEC solenoid valve circuit high voltage. Do I just change the part or worry about high-voltage? I also have other codes P2770, P0970, P0980, P0966, P0974. There all giving me high input, high circuit or low circuits. Should I just change the parts or is this a different issue? The car wouldn’t start I thought it was a battery and alternator issue. I replaced both of them. The car ran for a few miles and it shut off on me I couldn’t start it without a jump. Also I need to mention before it shut off on me every time I stopped and try to accelerate it hardly did.
Just did it 08 EX-L. Not enough clearance without removing cover and loosening the cam sprocket. Its: remove belt then power steering pump, take the hose off and tuck it out of the way then 2-12mm bolts that hold pump. Remove cam cover, 5-10mm bolts. Turn crank to align sprocket to remove 2-12mm bolts holding backing plate. Loosen cam sprocket bolt, I think 17mm. Hand tighten then back it out 3 full turns. Pry back plate out for clearance, shove rag down into gap. Remove 8mm bolt, remove sensor. Put new sensor in, wrap thread around 8mm bolt near the washer. Line it up and press on head with a flat head then pull thread to start the threads. Haha. Works. Spend half an hour slowly turning bolt with 8mm wrench. Put it all back together.
+Jeremy Cerutti Hey! If im not wrong 04 is same as 05 but i could be wrong! It worked for me, I know is tight but i was successful on it I think you can do it too!... Thanks for taking the time to watch!
