As a Lizardman player I think you are misrepresenting them as stupid,mindless beings akin to robots. This is not the case. They are a species of experts. Saurus are born with a vast knowledge of warfare,tactics and battle. They live and breathe combat and have no use or interest in anything else. This doesn't make them stupid or mindless. they literally "just know" how to fight. "Saurus are neither dim-witted, nor stupid: their minds are focused on battle and battle alone." -8th edition Codex Additionally, Skinks are known to be very intelligent and even emotional at times. again, they are born with an understanding of engineering, governance etc.

If I could be anything from Warhammer, I would be a Slann because you sit there, get given stuff, and can meditate for years on end in isolation and peace. That's the good life.

Note lizardmens have their Technology. However they dont take they technology in to the battles a lot. They're relics. In the penultimate chapter of End of Times Lizards saved the entire world for the fall of giant meteors wich Skavens almost accidentally shot down . However, part of Lizardman sailed on spaceships . Exactly!!!! The whole pyramid are in fact spaceships . Star Gate style !!!!

pretty good introduction however i feel the use of "stupid" is very misleading in the context. they're not so much "stupid" as they're just very, very specialized. Saurus, for example, are all expert fighters. They live and breathe warfare and you are not going to find anyone who better understand war and tactics than a saurus. They don't discuss much strategy before a battle or anything, but they know exactly what they should do when it starts and this is true for all of the lizardmen when it comes to their designated tasks: Skink priests knows how to run a city, skink potters know how to make pots, Slann knows how to magic and Kroxigors know how to follow simple tasks. they do and understand their given tasks really well but not much else. There is also the issue with Slann being "leaders", while technically true, they don't handle any of the day to day life. Skink priests are in practice the true leaders in any non-combat situation unless a Slann decides to do anything which is extremely rare. granted, i'm basing most of this on a somewhat older book (second to last i believe) but overall it seemed to match up pretty well with what you appeared to present. just some minor nitpicks since this is what i find the most interesting about the faction.

I think the lizard men would be a rather interesting faction to play as. Think about it, you're constantly at war, your armies mightn't attack because of a 'sign' from the gods, politics would be in constant turmoil. Sounds like a real challenge, that would be nice a lot like WRE in Attila. Also imagine if the lizard men were scripted to have certain events happen, for example you have to conquer like in the prophesy, or you might have to stay in their home land for a certain amount of turns. If they could do that right it would make the game a challenge instead of an annoyance. Nice video, keep up the good work!

All lizardmen are capable of individual thought, its just they have their tasks and just do them. All lizardmen seem to live a very long time and the Skinks especially seem to have individual desires. Kroq-Gar is a Saurus but fully independent, he is also massively powerful and spends his time killing anything he doesn't like, which is anything that isn't a lizardman.

Imagine if we would be able to play as the Lizardmen and sometimes instead of bandits and savage orc war bands pillaging. We would get like gangs of human adventurers that would just love to try and steal your shit so we could get like different quests to stop or hunt them down and regain the stolen trinkets and treasures

i have interesting theory that is inspired by the way the elves looked at their "pet" gods in their grand age. what if the old ones saw that the old ones knew that skaven would come and they knew that the slanns might not take the threat seriously. and i guess its obvious that the old ones know how the warp works so they knew that they could "fool" the lizardmen to help themselves by creating a guardian god like sotek. basicaly like the elves did when they created gods that they could use to manipulate the real world. if i am explaining bad please let me know. and pls let me know your thoughts.

regards to the last few points. They don't use bronze weapons, they use a stone material called obsinite which even the dwarves can't match. They aren't slow, most infantry units move at 6" a turn on the tabletop as opposed to the orcs and elve's 4". They are cold-ones not velociraptors. I like how you said that they would literally go to hell and back to take back a trinket, because one of them did.

Never did like mixing Warhammer 40k with Warhammer Fantasy, I prefer to keep them separate. Perhaps the old ones were similar to the ones from 40k, but I'd like to think their different settings.

i looked them up and apparently there was a Chameleon Skin (a rare sub species) who was, along with the city he/she was guarding, was drawn directly into the realm of Chaos (i'm assuming the Warp itself)..........and somehow he/she managed to ESCAPE it (somehow because the wikia states that it's unknown how Oxcoatl accomplished this.) a Skin was DRAWN INTO the Warp, and ESCAPED IT unscathed and uncorrupted. That is insane. Not to mention the Albino Kroxigar that is nigh unkillable who single handedly held off 5 WAVES of Daemons.

Your thought of a hive mind was a little off, because there have been suarus and skinks leaders because there was no slan. The Lizardmen just have no ambitions and are programmed to do for their jobs.

I wouldn't call the lizardmen complete techno-phobos. Their architecture and some of their equipment does require a decent technological know-how to create, after all.

I always saw the Lizardmen as basicly biorobots, left by the old ones to maintain order in the world and the Slaan as AI which while very advanced in certain field cant go beyond their programing. You presented them as far more "living" then I thought. Its sad that you didnt mention the large role the Lizardmen played in fighting Chaos (one could say that the Lizardmen more then any other race personifie the concept of "Order" and are the complete counterpart to chaos). During the first (and greatest) Chaos invasion it was the Lizardmen Chaos sent the majority of its forces against, concidering elves and dwarves just part of the local fauna and only the Lizardmen the "true" enemy. It was the Slaan with their just godlike magic who destroyed dozens upon dozens of greater demons and thus saved the world from being overrun...But it did cost the majority of the Slaan their lives. BUT here is the thing....because of the limitations of their programing the Slaan couldnt realy devise a way to stop chaos and would have (for all their power) lost to the endless demonic ounslaught. They just had nothing in their programing that told them a solution and their status as mashines didnt alow them to come up with one of their own..... Thus it requred the (magicly far weaker) High elves who though were individuals and thus could think creativly, to come up with the idea of the magical Vortex that ended up saving the world. Still once the Slaan noticed what the elves were doing their AI quickly analyzed it and saw it for what it was, the only chance! So the Slaan directed all their power to distract the demons (who also saw what was hapening on Ulthuan and directed all powers they could against Caledor and his mages) and to help the elves to cast the spell....Thus the Lizardmen clearly deserve a large portion of the victory against chaos (without which the humans who now look on them as onto beasts wouldnt even exist). While it required the creativity of the elves to save the world, much of the energy to realize the plan was delivered by the Slaan...

High Elves - Strong Archers, Spearman and specialised armoured infantry. Good variety of Cavalry and chariots. Orc and Goblins - Huge variety of massed infantries and monsters such as trolls and giants. Limited cavalry choices. Brettonia - Variety of cavalries and supported by men at arms. Wood Elves - Excellent Archers with a variety of stealth troops and infantry choices. Can recruit Monster such as treemans.

Hello there! As I really like your other videos, you seem to be really prejudiced against Lizardmen. I collect, play and read about the Lizardmen for about 10 years now and I get totally other view of them as a race. I deem skinks maybe the most inteligent of them in day to day life (it's them who run temple cities while Slaan ponder the meaning of grass growth). On the other hand the Slaan are very inteligent but in a way so diffrent and distant from human way of thinking that we might be taking it for almost a AI ;) And with the Saurus - they're wery smart and wise in the suject of war - the only reason of their existence. They are born (or spawned) into the world with all the knowledge about warfare (you may call it an instinct maybe). And while in the army books it's stated they fight fiercely and furiously, it's also written that thay act almost like a one organism changing directions, and performing tactical moves with speed and discipline impossible for other races (I know that the army books always want to comliement their races a bit too much but still ;) And you ommited a huge part of their story! The first war against Chaos! That was major! Anyway it's aways nice and refreshing to hear another view on the subject (even from a vile ratmen! :P) so thank you for the video! Cheers!

I always figured the Skinks are pretty independent...you think of like when they rebelled against the Slann and seem intelligent...so yeah i always thought of them as the "thinkers"

Seems likely to me that the prophecy was created by one of the Old Ones as a guideline to give the Lizardmen their own God. After all, the Old Ones knew the warp, and surely knew how to create Gods.

I've been watching your lore series and I constantly wonder why Warhammer Lore doesn't have a movie while Warcraft does :( I can see it now: Rated R and full of gritty wonder!

The music on some of these is a bit loud and interferes with easily listening to the explanation. Regardless of that... I love the Lizardmen Hive-mind Dinosaurs, I really hope they'll get implemented at some point.

So who is next? Dwarves, Bretonnia, Wood Elves, High Elves, Tomb Kings? You're going to do separate videos for Beastmen and Daemons of Chaos, right? Personally, I'm super excited for the Dark Elves. One of my favorite lore. So eeeeevvvviiilll.

Subscribing! I use to collect Warhammer (Mainly Lizardmen of course being my favourite race) but I did not fully understand the lore but I do now. Thanks for refueling my enjoyment for this brilliant fantasy world :)

All trinkets and treasures are under constant watch by squads of skinks who are tasked with driving off any looters. If there are too many looters, runners are sent to fetch the saurus and an army comes to kill them all.

Lizardmen are practically a functioning platonic republic. With three different species instead of three different kind of souls. And a lot of theology. And dinosaurs.

The old gods were probably future us, maybe not humans, but like us just in the future before some cataclysm or went to a new planet.

The Old Ones are supposed to be dead or at least exiled by the lizardmen. That's why they are probably not affecting the world anymore. Furthermore, despite its similarities (retconned design decisions), 40k and fantasy are definetely not set in the same universe but parallel realities, that don't affect each other as stated by GW officially.

More aggressive, red color, Sotek sounds a lot like a espect of khain or korn. both need blood

The only thing I can think of if it's like medieval 2 America campaign where you lusteria controlled by the lizard men and the other civilisations that can colonise ( humans , elves, ratmen, etc) have one city on the coast and a big army and they all fight each other for dominance on lusteria. The fact lizardmen can't do diplomacy would make up for their territory being so hung at the beginning and the other races would team up against them maybe until they turn on each other. The invading races would not be able to get high level units ( except the ones they start with as a colonising force) until they build the right buildings

How about at random times you get a omen, with a very vague hint that the player has to interpret in different ways and will get bonuses or negatively based on how the player response. With the alignment I think pure neutrality, but can make alliances if certain omens seems to say to have a period of peace. Otherwise they should have very difficult diplomacy.

This got me thinking. Who would win? An oWoD Mage or a Slan priest.

I’m not 100% sure but I think that the foreground image you used at 3:53 was of the couatl from rise of legends.

Also, I'm not sure I'd consider the Lizardmen 'automatons,' so much as maybe a very strict caste society with it's members being fairly content with how they fit into the civilization. Perhaps a bit like the Tau from W40k, where it's rumored the Tau drug their population to keep every satisfied with where they fit in the caste XD Cept no drugs are needed here lol

Excellent entree into the world of Lizardmen thank you. I listened to this while painting my Lizardmen Blood Bowl Team and could not help but wonder - where does Blood Bowl fit into the Grand Plan? I used my imagination.

Is it possible that the Old One prophecy for Sotek is their back up plan. So in dire emergency make a chaos god to fix the problem.

The warhammer fantasy world kinda seem to me to be... kinda like a test prototype thingy. Like a simulation to see what sort of creatures and races that would work best as weapons and how to use them against their enemies as weapons. The effects of faith and magic. That may be simulation of their ability to use and effect the warp energies and all that. I do not know if the Lizardman have their version in the normal 40k. But you can imagine the Old Once seeing the advantage of their simple minds, but then finding that they are just not able to adapt well enough. Maybe they could see something like Maybe they in a rush at some point tried to change them into something like the Kroot? Or maybe they took the, non changing ways of theirs to the extrema opposite and made the Tyranids.

Perhaps you could do a lore video on which fantasy armies are equivalent to the 40K armies necrons= vampire empire= Mankind greenskins= Orkz but what else? perhaps skaven= tyranids

I didn't catch where the young slaan come from. You said slaan can not reproduce and the old ones are clearly not around to create new ones, so where do they come from?

Arch, I was wondering what you think about the game vermintide, the left4dead but with skaven game. It looks interesting and somewhat lore freindly. For example if you come into contact with a single skaven, it will flee and wait for back up. They also hold ambushes and the ranged units have friendly fire. Just curious on you're thoughts.

This whole grand plan thing sounds an awful lot like something Tzeenchy at best.

I think the answer to the great plan is that it has a timer to the active on it some where with in the moment or/and calculates the other possible outcomes. most likely because the great abilities of the great ones thank you .
