They have been constantly socializing with others their entire lives. What the fuck are you talking about? It's just the same talking points over and over.
@@abraxas4261 Yeah they’ve been socializing. Maximus with his fellow cult members, who all pick on him and he’s willing to abandon at the first touch of kindness. Lucy raised by her vault tec agent dad inside a vault tec vault whose experiment has her behaving more like a cartoon person than an actual person Neither of these places are anywhere near normal and neither teaches their inhabitants how to talk to strangers. On top of being socially awkward, they have nothing to talk about. One knows basically nothing of the surface, the other knows basically nothing of vaults. And as a cherry on top, Maximus is still kinda pretending to be Titus at this point so he’s not even truly himself. The awkward, cringe conversation is more than reasonable. The fuck are you talking about?
no one is surprised about the awkwardness, it's just dumb, why maximus thinks an erection is weird when there were dudes in his bunker enjoying themselves in the first episode, and lucy thinking this is the best topic to discuss with a complete stranger instead of the head that's getting further away at a snail's pace to free her kidnapped father
Yea it’s pretty much the same people who have never played the games and/or have chosen to watch this show with the sole purpose to nitpick it because it’s popular.
It's genuinely disgusting that people will just criticize a film for the subtle genius purposefully implemented. Who would have though they both have socially awkward standards due to the limitations they were raised in? It reminds me if the idiots who were rating Godzilla Minus 1 as 1 star. Why? Not enough monster movie violence, it's stupid that the Japanese would mock their cowardice soldiers (goes to show the sheer cultural ignorance), and other dumb things about how they went in expecting the same copy paste monster flick
@@Samrski85 that doesn’t mean anything, just because characters are different is not enough reason to come to the conclusion goin that they will be socially inept
@@lateralrookThat many of those who are complaining have never played the games. It's a post-apocalyptic world and you're talking about a girl who grew up in a utopia and there, sex is not treated as a taboo. Therefore, strange dialogue like this is common according to the character herself. In the first episode, she and her friend talk about an attacker's sperm count as if it were an extremely common conversation to have with a stranger.
The whole point of this conversation was SUPPOSED to be goofy and bad lol. Max barely knows how to express himself and his feelings, and probably barely talks to women. Lucy mostly sees sex for mostly just reproduction as she was basically told that her purpose was to repopulate the wasteland. So yeah they're gonna say goofy shit lmao when they talk about it with each other. Everyone just wants a reason to hate.
@@skimmelsvamp9531 how is this in any way treating the audience like “idiotic children”? Max has no idea how sex works because he was orphaned and raised by a kleptomaniac paramilitary and fallout is inherently goofy
@@jupitergaming5146 There is proper, goofy and fun dialogue that is used to reveal Max’s cluelessness about sex, and then there is this shit, which is just cringe inducing to an absurd and unnecessary level. I’m saying that it infantilizes the audience, because the writers must think that the viewer have the intellect of a special needs seven year old to assume that dialogue this heavy handed is needed to get their point across.
@@skimmelsvamp9531 your argument doesn’t make a whole lot of sense when you’re just saying “they could do something else it’s cringey” which is a nothing burger
Wow, the scene that was written to be a cringey and awkward moment between two characters who don't know how to express themselves _was_ a cringey and awkward moment between two characters who don't know how to express themselves. Colour me shocked!
Played fallout, nobody ever talked like this. This is intended for blue haired feminists who think sex is like shaking hands and they want to laugh at an "incel"
Dude it’s bad just admit it. Something being better than Velma or Halo doesn’t make it good. This is corny writing. They aren’t YOU they are post apocalyptic vault dweller and brotherhood member. Meaning they both would get more social interactions with the opposite sex than you
You have a point actually this really reminds me of it, people keep misinterpreting it as bad writing when it’s supposed to be a “bad” scene where it cringes you out or makes you laugh…
@@Ghost_Kevlar Your right, shelter isn’t canon. And you don’t have to keep watching and playing fallout stuff if you don’t like it, that’s the beauty of free will
Thats because you never played a Fallout game, in F2 there plenty of s*x dialogue, and even with 1 IQ its still written better than this junk, at least its bad on purpose and you can tell its bad on purpose. Something works better in games then it does in TV show, but hey, what does zoomers know they are too busy watching cat t**ture videos on TikTok.
Seriously, I never took a DAY of theater and I still understood the context to this scene. Its akward because thats the literal point: Theyre BOTH sheltered as fuck and have ZERO idea what proper expression to the idea of sex actually is. And lucys not even inexperienced, THATS the best part XD
I aint even a big fallout fan, I only played the 3rd and NV and know this scene is between 1. A DUDE WHO WAS ORPHANED AND NEVER PROPERLY TAUGHT SEXUAL EDUCATION and 2. A VAULT DWELLER WHOM HAS HAD THEIR RELATIVES BEEN DISCONNECTED FROM SOCIETY FOR OVER 200 YEARS!
@@not_a_demon Neither of those things explain being THIS naive... They weren't completely cut off from social interactions. Man, you idiots are reaching to defend this.
idk what's the big deal, this fits fallout and the characters. Maximus is a brotherhood member who has probably spent his entire life with men and has been taught nothing about sex and lucy is vault dweller thot. Crazier stuff has been said and done by other characters in the games, especially the older ones
We literally see maximus around and conversing with a woman in the brotherhood. Also if there just weren't any women in the brotherhood, why wouldn't he be told about sex?
It's clear their only education is how to find technology with other technology. Sex ed isn't in their curriculum. Lucy is a vault teacher that's been shown to be sex positive. This is probably the most realistic conversation these two different people from these two different backgrounds can have.
A guy whose childhood was traded for years of training to become a soldier in steel armor and a girl who lived in a utopia where marriages were arranged purely for reproduction purpoises and naivety was insane. I would say it was written appropriately.
@@CrashNTheBoys2002 fallout nvs great, i do see it as the best but i dont get the new vegas meat riding the avg fanbase has, its just a good old game that could've had more potential, its nothing really special. the again i havent tried 1 or 3 yet, only a bit of 2, nv and 4
I don’t think people understand this it captures the awkwardness of fallout to a Tee especially when you have low ranking speech skills or charisma your character is just more awkward
It also captures how Maximus is from the brotherhood and doesn't really know much about sex and stuff while Lucy is from the Vault, where reproduction is so common that even incest is normal there, making her not aware of the taboo of these concepts in the pre-war or different societies. And as you said through the cringe and blunt dialogue they show us the awkward side of these two characters, mainly Maximus. I think It's so much better than throwing another pointless sex scene. Yes it's cringy and stuff, but like that's how people are, cringe is part of our daily lives, people need to get over it.
The whole point is they both have been isolated for so long and it’s been so long that they don't use social cues or manners like people did before the bombs.
@@brodaline2124 the scene is more above the worst examples of thr game you think of, you live in an apocalyptic world, you'd probably not have the same chances as others of being in society or had experienced it. Its not like everyone turns shakespearean or philosophers and becoming wise then that would mean theyd already rebuilt peak civilization. Its fiction so I cant really argue for realism when thats what the author intends.
@@ezdelicades5554 so by this logic they shouldn’t be speaking the same language at all, or by the other logic “it’s fiction” we can have a horse that teleports and shits rainbows and we can’t really question it, is that how deep we get with analyzing fiction is just accept everything at face value? You need to play the games. This is fallout's tone and has been. Also you need to watch the show instead of clips. Out of context, the jokes do not land as well, obviously. You don't know their personalities or backgrounds and you haven't been along for the ride to embrace the absurdity that is fallout. Fallout humor = absurdist humor + dark humor + fun pop culture references.
When I saw this scene and episode I was so confused and thought there was something wrong with them and they were being experimented on because of the way they were talking to each other here. I also felt that way when Maximus was enjoying being in the vault because to me he was acting and speaking really weirdly, like an NPC. (Overall I loved the programme though!)

You got it absolutely right. It's done in the style of a weird SNL scene. And the funny thing is that in the context of character development, this particular scene should be exactly like that)
@@brentforrest123 Played all the games, none of the dialogue except maybe 4 sounds like something intended for a blue haired feminist. Also notice how really the only "joke" here is "lol incel". They'd never have the man proposition the woman for sex as is normal, they have to "invert it"
So in the New Vegas we had dialogues like Caesar explaining himself and morals of the Legion making some of the really insightful facts about the human nature, history, pax romana and war, we have come down to this, a dialogue about a cock bendng. Fallout franchise is fucked Thank you Bethesda!
caesar was a delusional idiot, intended to be written as a delusional idiot by writers who were smart and intentional. the characters in this show are delusional idiots, intended to be endearing and loveable, and end up coming off as annoying as fucking shit. the writers of these characters wanted to write 'funny' into the story in the most shit-tastic way possible.
New Vegas dialogue was as terrible as this. You'd have to be 13 to take "insightful facts about human nature" away from the game. It was tripe for edgy teens.
It's almost as if they wrote this as a joke, because these characters are meant to be clueless and sheltered... Because that's exactly what this is. If any of you saw the entire show, you'd catch that tone. Also, while this part isn't particularly funny, some other bits are pretty good dark comedy, and you can't say they didn't match the energy of the games.
The games did not have FTM trans larpers, Fin, sheniquas, and blatantly bad le evil white man factions in them like the slop these Democrat Hollywood writers Todd loves inject into it. They literally can't help themselves.
Todd Howard calling himself a fan of the original games is his biggest lie. What I hate more than the showrunners or Bethesda themselves are the brainless golems who will call this good.
Todd Howard hustling billions out of Microsoft despite never making a good game has to be respected. Fortunately, no one will ever respect him as a game developer ever again.
What are you yapping about bruh. This scene is perfectly fine in the context of two extremely sheltered people, where one was told to never have sex, and the other one was basically born to repopulate. Also from what I’ve heard fallout has always had undertones of comedy using topics like this, also ITS ONE FUCKING SCENE. calling the show garbage because of this is craaaazy
