I used every single bit of kit that I packed except for the winter gloves and the first aid & repair kit. One piece of gear dumped a test and I had one gear failure due to lack of maintenance. Here are my opinions, views and experience using the gear that I packed.

I always like your gear choices. Ultralight is really the only way to go. I don't comprehend anyone carrying more weight than necessary for strange rustic sentamental reasons. That just doesn't compute for me personally. I notice a trend today for many previously UL hikers slowly letting their pack weights creep upward. Opting for wlder pads, more complex sleep systems, heavier shelters, more luxury items, etc. I think it makes more sense to hold the line and let your body conform to UL items or you'll quickly find you've thrown out the baby with the bath.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm looking for a new shelter and Notch has looked like a very good choice, but i really don't understand why they replaced zipper with velcro for doors in 2018 Notch generation.

I think that I heard someone say that it was to make it easier to get in & out for example when you are half asleep at night and you have to get up to pee or something, but I don't know for sure. The zipper doors are nice. Sometimes I wish that mine could be two ways though.

@@BrianOutdoors for me velcro is easier to close tent when you outside, but when you inside it can be a real pain to close the door properly. besides, velcro is wear out much faster than zipper.

@@pR13S7 Yes, I was thinking the same thing with regards to wear & tear. My zipper is still going strong after all this time.

Brian: We share many of the same gear preferences. Glad you liked the Notch and Windrider. I own them both. Your puffy jacket looked like a mid-weight down product. How did it perform?

Thanks Gustitis. The puffy is a Cumulus product made in Poland. I have quite a few of their bits of gear. A quilt, a sleeping bag (custom), a synthetic jacket made with Apex 67, a wind shirt and this jacket that I took on this hike. My Cumulus Incredilite Endurance puffy has hydrophobic down (850 cuin) and weighs 320 grams. Like you noticed a mid-weight that I'll normally use together with a mid-layer through the winter season and at the end autumn & start of spring. I've owned it for 2 years. I knew that I would experience some low temperatures so it was packed. It got slightly damp on the first day but only on a little area and nothing really noticeable. The down still "puffed" up as it should and it preformed great. I love this jacket. I could of survived with the lighter Cumulus Climalite pullover made with Climashield Apex 67 (251 g) using it together with my mid-layer the Mountain Equipment Diablo hoody and save some weight. I was lucky with the temperatures ranging from 0℃ to 20℃. They could of been lower for that time of the year so far above the Arctic Circle. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Maybe someday I''ll try a Vegemite sandwich ... Until then, I'll just stick with good ole peanut butter. Great job!

OUHIKE2 Thanks, peanut paste works too 😀. Just seems to be only one size jar available here in Denmark which was an overkill for 5 days last year. The small tube of Vegemite was a great size. Can you buy smaller portions of peanut paste over your way or do you re-pack it into another container or bag?

@@BrianOutdoors We can buy 1.5 oz/43gr plastic cups filled with peanut butter and some small companies have started making similar size pouches that are convenient to pack and carry.
