I’m 7 days into my rotator cuff surgery. By far the worst part is trying to sleep with the sling on. Looking forward to burning it in my fire pit in a few more weeks.
I have found laying on my back with the pillow behind my shoulder is most comfortable. I had a labrum repair two days ago and can get about 4 hours of sleep at a time before waking up with pain in my shoulder. This isn’t fun.
Glad I came across this video five years after it was uploaded. I've never had to experience a situation like this, but for one of my assignments at school I had to write an essay on how first aid would be applied to a shoulder dislocation in a certain scenario, then act it out in a little skit. THIS was what I needed for the acting part. Now I understand how to support the arm correctly. Thank you!!
After 3 surgeries on my left shoulder. I found that by stacking all the pillows in the corner I can lean into them as if i was sleeping on my side. Best sleep I have gotten since.
I am not a back sleeper but I am trying to adjust as I can get more comfortable while awake on my back. It has been 9 days since surgery and I am still chasing a good night’s sleep.
Just had a shoulder arthoscopy for labrel repair and loose body removal. Watching this the morning after a nearly restless night. I have a recliner, but i can't operate the foot rest. I had to resort to using my coffee table as a foot rest. It's fine at first, but it puts pressure on the knees which is really uncomfortable after a while. Going to try the side sleep method tonight, as im more of a side sleeper anyway.
Just get plenty of pillows to put under the fist of the affected side. Also, if you try the recliner again with the coffee table, place pillows under your knees so they don't bow backwards. Best of luck with your recovery.
The very last sentence: "...if they're not back sleepers." All the recommendations are for recliners or positions where you are on your back. Nice to have at least recognition that not everyone can sleep that way + advice on alternative.
I'm a side sleeper and on my left side it's been 4 days after my rotator cuff surgery and I have to lay on my right side it hurts my right leg I have pain all the time anyway i can't sleep on my back at all my back is bad so not a lot of sleep for me can't wait till I can sleep on my left side again.
The biggest problem I've been having is, I'm seven days in to tendonese's and rotator cuff surgery and now the third time I've had dreams where I'm trying to escape danger such as a fire or something to that effect and I have woke up pulling my arm out of the sling. And generally in a lot of pain from trying to do so. It's sort of like walking in my sleep so how do I keep from tearing loose things in my shoulder while it's healing when subconsciously I'm struggling to get out of it, the sling that is.
I had a cervical fusion about 18 months ago and am two weeks post op from shoulder surgery......seeping is miserable. What works for my neck DOES NOT work for my shoulder. I kinda just surround myself with pillows and support options at night and hope for the best
After shoulder replacement, I found the sofa more comfortable than the recliner. Can't sleep on my back but the sofa keeps you from rolling over and feels better. Good luck!
@@chriscipolloni4064not great. Fusion didn’t fully take…….I have a posterior surgery to beef up the fusion with 2 rods and 4 screws. I have to help lift my head up still and I have sloppy movement in my facet joints. July 22nd surgery date.. also just had a cortisone shot in my ac joint which also might need some surgical help. It was a grade 3 separation back in 2018 that didn’t heal right and wasn’t addressed in the shoulder surgery. I’m only 34 but feel like I’m 60.
Dude I know right?? 12 days in I’m miserable. Neither of these pillow tricks work for me sadly. I’ve been in the recliner instead. And that’s miserable too 😂
Took mine of after 2 days, after rotator cuff surgery large tear, doing brilliant after 2 weeks, no stiff shoulder issues, just doing the exercises i was told to.
I finally got my shoulder positioned right after watching this guy explain: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Czo8SCa-L-M.html My surgery was 3/22
Hi eval thanks for show I did a surgery for my rotator cuff after surgery sleeping every night hv pain n morning my arm all muscle pain only I'm taking ibuprofen Other stronger pills I can't take its dissy vermint
I love the way the "patient" is able to move so easily. That is near impossible with open surgery on a shoulder, trust me I have had this experience. Total pain most of the time, sleep is a wish and moving like that is complete rubbish. This video is about as useful as a chocolate fireguard.
My neck nerves have spasms and I have very little feeling in my arm. Just had labral repair surgery 2 days ago. Why hasn’t the nerve block gone away by now?
Keeping that sling on so for long probably caused more damage to the entirety of my body alignment than my original shoulder injury did. 2 years later I’m still trying to untwist my body and I haven’t stopped doing exercises for it since the surgery. GET OUT OF THAT SLING ASAP
@@OrthoEvalPalSir i have Bankart labrum tear of 1'o clock to 5'o clock ? What about me.. Please guide me. Should I get or not the surgery done, as rehab is also a viable option. I am confused. I am in 3rd week of shoulder dislocation and I can lift my Arm in front and side, as i am doing the isometric exercises!!
I'm a tummy sleeper had full tear rotator cuff with implant and it's been a month of suffering from lack of sleep waking up all hrs of the night. Then morning I get urges to stretch and hurt my self. It's even worse than when I tore my rotator cuff
@@samratkafle5522 Try to get as comfortable as possible and wait it out. Shoulder surgery is the worst. There is nothing nice about the recovery process and each person is different. Some people can handle the pain better than others. But at the end of the day, it will pass and every day you will get better. Rest as much as possible. Try to relax your mind and not focus on the pain. I spent my first week post-op watching old monster movies and generally trying to keep busy. Best of luck to you!
I had bicep tenodesis surgery and labrum SLAP tear surgery. My surgeon told me I could get out of my brace (just a generic one) within a day or 2 as long as I am comfortable. I've barely been wearing it but still pain, obviously. I assume it is OK that I am out of the sling after only a day or 2? Sleeping is still horrible no matter in the sling or not. I am several times a night every night, no matter what pain pills I take.
Nothing wrong with being in the sling a little longer. Here is a sling video which could help. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rfRhO5dY9FU.html
Same surgery planned for me next week. Orthopaedist told me it’s going to be a minimum of 3 weeks of sling. How could it be just a few days? It’s physically impossible that the tissues heal in a few days.
@@andream.464 I think you might have misunderstood. We check on the patient 2 to 3 days after surgery and readjust the sling. Most people are in the sling for at least three to four weeks.
Hey, I just have 3 anchors in my left shoulder as of Bankart labrum tear surgery last week. How are you doing after the surgery, does it dislocate again? Can you play sports again? Do you feel the same about your shoulder joint?
@@teodorstefanov984 Mine was a full supraspinatus tear so it takes about 12 months to fully heal (almost there). Feels "almost" normal again. In some ways it feels stronger in some weaker. I have full range of motion back and feel i can do sports. Mine hasnt dislocated
@@bobdoyle5945I hope you are doing great. So how's your shoulder and can you play Contact sports ? Doctors recommend me arthroscopic surgery if i want to play sports and Physiotherapist if not in sports
I am short waisted so the top chine of the abductor pillow cuts into my upper arm and causes my hand to “go to sleep”. If they could design an abductor pillow that has curved edges, it would be more comfortable. I sleep at an angle with multiple pillows behind my back. Almost like sleeping in a recliner.
I have this sling and the straps fold over right on the replaced shoulders, shoulder blade that you are supposed to now lay on to sleep! Bloody painful. The hospital cheap sling is the same. What a stupid design. I absolutely cannot sleep on my back, it's agony. Side sleeping it is or at least angled, with drugs and pillows.
Anyone interested in telling their experience of post surgery or rehabilitation n physiotherapy of shoulder dislocation.. Please do, every comment is appreciated
