AND a strong case can be made that the Tour de France is the greatest sporting event IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND. Think about it. 21 races, 4-5 hours each? Only a few rest days in between races. The watts of energy expended by each racer in any day is super-human!
Personally I’m a Remco fan but, Pogi and Vingegaard really know how to put on a show. I wouldn’t mind Jonas winning 3 straight or Pogi getting his third.
just think what it will be in some years, man then we have the netflix doc, this is amazing times to live, ( I say its like see Ronaldo and Messi go against each other)
ya agree even as a Danish guy I really like both Pogi and Vingegaard.. Love the "friendly" fighting they have Just nice guys that is realy good at playing bikes .=) .. I personally preferer the style of riding that people like , Van Art , Vanderpool, Segan, Mads P The strong punchy riders that can be dangerous everywhere but the Huge Climbs ..
more of a well planned stage given to Jonas just like the stage 5 for cavendish just to attract more viewers and give the cycling fans a very good show
I'm also a Remco fan but I think it will be very difficult for him to win a TDF against these two. I'm especially afraid of what's going to happen in the moutains for Remco. I know he can climb but Vingegaard and Roglic look way better than everyone else
It's all about timing really that extra 1 second of static recording noise can really affect the performance of the journalists in the long run. All in all I'm just happy they did not stop recording too early.
@@sizey8105You’re sick to your stomach talking to keyboard cyclists, yet you felt triggered enough to reply to this comment. If comments online hurt your well being, you really should go outside and touch some grass.
Nice!! A amazing tour to watch, thas the important. Thanks Tadej fot the attack, and put the race on fire, and thanks Jonas, for the amazing come back. Lets enjoy the show, and not be some Fanboy guys!!
Love Pogi! I think he may be the most talented all-rounder in the history of cycling. We will see. BUT, he needs a fkn tactical coach if he's going to win the Tour. He races like Lance use to race when Lance first started, (I was in the peloton then) and it took Lance many years before he made the adjustment, which cost him many victories in races that were not on TV. Anyway, we have a great show to come in the next two weeks.
Agree - Chris Horner also sad if Tadej had better tactics he would have won 3 TDF already! My opinion.. Tadej is a FAR better rider than Jonas.. but tactics and nutrition is a problem..
@@dek8933looks don’t mean much tbh. People say pog looks dead after every stage of the tour and giro every year. Everyone is gonna be tired lol. Don’t know how you can say Jonas will win if we literally haven’t seen him attack once…
These two seem to genuinely enjoy classic racing against each other. They have so many hours climbing and decending as a pair over the last few years that they probably feel like an odd mix of rival and team.
@@ShadowboostIs that a fact tho? Let´s wait and see. I expect this stage won’t be the last surprise this Tour. We are in for some interesting stages ahead.
@@Shadowboost I think he raced this stage with good control. He waited for Jonas after hearing that Jonas was going all out knowing that conserving energy will help on the next mountain stages. It took everything for Jonas to bridge up and he may not have that energy next time. One thing for sure, Jonas could win this, but the next TT will definitely make or break it.
How can you not have anything but respect for Pogi! Such an awsome rider and the personality to match it. Being from Denmark I Hope for Jonas to win.... But if he looses to Pogi it would actually be fair by me. Just hopeing for more phenomonal stages like this one 😊
Jonas just served Remco a nice cold serving of humble pie. Dude criticized a legend on Stage 9 of a grand tour before the climbing had even begun. Expect more servings of humble pie for the kid in the coming HC stages.
you are talking as if remco lost hours ahahaha, he arrived like 30s after, as a not climber specialty I'd say he doesen't have much to be humble about.
I think Tadej should not attack every time and get exposed so easy like today . He should control the race with the team and attack when there is a clear opportunity cause he is the leader. All in all the real tour is just getting started and Jonas is showing to be more intelligent on the road
He have been on the offensive all of the first week including today because this terrain suits him better than Jonas, who usually keeps his level throughout the race and is better later on in the high long climbs. So it's a smart strategy to try to gain as much times as possible now because they are obviously scared of Jonas in the thrid week.
His attack yielded 1 minute gap to both jonas and remco. His advantage would have been zero if he didn't take action. Is it worth the effort? Who know but do you really wanna go to the high mountain neck and neck with jonas and having two wild card in remco and roglic around?
I think this is gonna be a great tour, but to be honest I think both Tadej and Jonas are not at their best form, tadej due to doing the Giro and Jonas due to the crash. And so the race is closer, 1 off day for one of them and Remco and Roglic can take over, who in turn are also incredibly strong riders.
Tadej must be smart and economical in his attacks in the remaining stages. The question is not who has the psychological advantage, but who will endure physically. Tadej has the edge this year because he can rely on a stronger team and should emphasize that. There are three very difficult stages left and I think Tadej needs to take a smart approach without investing unnecessarily. Probably, now he's aware that Giro and TdF are completely different competitions with different competitors.
What it is with the media, they always try to make something out of nothing, was it a psychological blow? Is he in tears needing mental therapy NO! how about the praise for racing a bike race, these boys deserve alot more from those asking the questions and promoting the sport. No other rider or team has more balls than UAE and TP. It's much better than watching a team just bore us all to death on every stage, let them race!
It's a fascinating battle with the four chief protagonists, Vingegaard looking back to near his best and taking the fight to Pogačar, who is looking weary and missing his usual carefree effervescence. With a finish away from Paris too I get the feeling anything could happen! I just wish they'd ban race radios and make racing more spontaneous, the same with power meters, but I'm probably a fossil from another age!
What was TP thinking??? As a leader of the TDF, sit back and let Jonas attack, draining all the precious energy. The UAE team is so strong they could have all worked together to constantly reel in any threat, protecting the yellow jersey and staying fresh. That is how you win. TP is racing like he is losing - and he may do just that racing like this!! Joans is in his head.
I think it's an exciting duel, tbh, in my opinion today Pogacar didn't really "lose"-- it was a photo finish after an intense race where each rider spent his energy at different points. end result: they crossed the finish line almost simultaneously, and pogacar actually widened the gap by 4 bonus seconds, right?. If Pogi says he's ready for the big mountains, i choose to believe him. but this can all go either way. someone said "Jonas never cracks" which is a silly statement, of course there's physical and psychological limitations. I personally have never seen Vingegaard cry, which he did uncontrollably during his cooldown interview. He's not a monster, he's a human being. It's also interesting that again Pogacar gained so much on him on the descent, really starting to think Vinegaard is still affected by his crash. Wish he can/has/will overcome it. I think we should all consider ourselves lucky that we can witness this TdF rivalry.
@@Rollersox did he? i mustve missed sth then, didn't catch that. but tbh, 1 second, 4 bonus seconds...they mean nothing at this point, right? i kinda hope and fear everything is going to be decided on the final tt
Later on, folks may claim this to be a greatest of all time Tour de France, but we might have to start earlier. Good for honesty on the yellow jersey! No one talks smack, it's just too dangerous!
Advantage Vingegaard today, but the Tour is long. Digest the defeat, fix any mistakes, stay calm and take it home Tadej ❤ ps. See if Ayuso wants to go on vacation early, he’d be more useful that way maybe
@@MEB939 I'm a little bit confused about Ayuso. Is he a supporter for Tadej or is looking for top5 or top10 results, because he didn't help to his leader at all. I don't know what is his role.
Jonas went right up there in the heat of the battle and faced the Boogeyman himself...the harder the competition the sweeter the victory....I think longer climbs suits jonas better as in the upcoming hill stages
Why was Tadej working with Jonas on the decent and final climb? He should have put that 100% on Jonas and just sucked his wheel, so he could have picked off the stage win and bigger time bonus.
Love Pog, but that was silly racing today. Play it smart and let Jumbo do the attacking. His competitiveness and belief he can win everything has cost him victory before and may do again. The back end of the tour is brutal so save your energy and let Jumbo make the moves.
A lot of negative nonsense regarding psychological points following what has been a tough start to the 2024 Tour... Everyone has an off day where their body just wasn't up to the requirements of their mind and spirit. Even Tadej is allowed to sell 1 second every now and then to his rivals but anyone imagining this is a definitive sign of things to come would be mistaken. 🏁
I just discovered France has mandated all athletes performing in France must be vaccinated. I’m certain the French will understand when we boycott all French events Viva Giro De Italia and Vuelta a España. More beautiful races and superior climbers anyway. Beside traveling in France is never worth the hassle compared to these lovely peninsulas
As I observed, Pogi would like to give an opportunity for Jonas to show off that he is still capable of TDF after the crash last April. Pogi really waited for him to pull of from Roglic. History said that when Pogi attack, he will leave you like a road runner but in this stage, friendship and sportsmanship shine out. Anyway, Pogi leads as much as 70sec from Evan and Jonas. GC jersey, Pogi still wears it.
He actually look fresh? He looked out of energy end of race. UAE is just all on on Pogacar. But to beat Vingegaard they need to use their 3 liuetenants to attack on turns! Why else bring them all and not use them for pulling? But now its too late, they drove themself out of the race.
No one from UAE other than Pogacar has been able to distance Jonas - so no - Pogi will have to do this on his own. Pogi needs to slow the race - not make it harder
Almeida is top 5, ayuso 9, and in the moutains, yates will be in the top 10, and all of then work for Pogi. Thats not bad...Last year did not Jumbo use to the limit they 3 liuetenants to? its all part of the race, lets hope a fight to the end, and that remco and roglic, can enter the fight to!!
@@jenspetersen5865 agree, but thats not his style! Thats why VIngegaard has one easily the last two years and also this year. Which is sad, because its much more fun to watch Pogacar race
@@miscellaneous1979 they are now too far back to be used strategically. Jumbo dont need to use their leuitenants strategically because they always win with Vingegaard, but UAE needs the numbers to attack him in turns. Like how Vingegaard won his first tour, but UAE dont want to play with such an easy winning strategy...
If I was him I wouldnt do the tour anymore, let the fisherman smoke everyone 10+ minutes every year. Its unreal how Vingo can be in such form after the crash.
@@MariaEscribano-p7n one has pedigree, one doesn't pogacar is a real talent like van aert and van der poel vingegaard is like froome, exploded and is good on every terrain too, vingegaard doesn't compete in every type of race because has tiny balls pogacar is liked because he knows he can fell in a 1 day races but still rides
Tadej couldnt put away jonas but at least he made jonas worked hard to catch up and lead both of them to the line. And remco threat is significantly reduced.
@@Elu_ahah It's an indicator, yes. Today Pogachar was clearly the best and maybe he's just in better shape than Jonas this year. Or maybe not. We will see.
hard to believe how medicine took place without any positive results. really amazing how modern science works. maybe 10yrs from now like lance armstrong.
Interesting that he says he focused more on the longer climbs like the coming weekend in his preparation, if that were true, how come Jonas still caught him so easily on the second climb? Can somebody maybe explain? I get that it were numerous shorter climbs, but after this comeback I cannot imagine why Pogi should be doing better on the weekend, I fear Jonas will drop him and also win overall, because he is so insane in the hard climbs.
Why?....because they went full gas on those climbs....on longer climbs they have a much slower pace...u can't compare attacking or a team pace, there is a quite big gap in the speed......u got that?
Well the climb where Jonas gain time was 5.5 km if im not wrong so its not a long climb. What should the guy Say yeah Jonas Is probably Better and i should Attack 30 km away (Easy tò Say After, Jonas today has defenetly prove that he his at 100% but of you dont test him you Will never know)
Es verdad, no tiene sentido. Si tuviera resistencia a la subida larga, no hubiera perdido tiempo en la segunda cuesta, todo lo contrario, debería haber aumentado...!!!
Vingegard Is the favourite After today but we Need to see of he was able tò prepare for the all 3 weeks. Remember tadej last year?. Everybody talking about Jonas crash but noone mention tadej rode also giro. At the moment Jonas crash doesn t seem tò affect him so much. Jonas he Is 100% because i dont think he could ride faster than what we have seen today. The question Is if he can keep this form for the last 10 days
@@stefanocavallin6221 I think Jonas' weaknesses are descending and chasing on flat terrain on his own. This is where Pogacar was able to build the time gaps. Pogacar has that extra power on the steeper sections to build a gap and maintain it downhill as we saw on the Galibier stage. If the race finishes downhill, he maintains that gap, but if there is more climbing to go, he can only hope to keep up with Vingegaard who seems to have more in the tank .
It's evident that Pogačar still has his form, but it seems the UAE team wanted to test Jonas' limits. This indicates we're in for a fair competition this year. However, I'm not entirely convinced about Jonas' reported injuries in March. I suspect his team might have exaggerated the extent of his injury to make UAE Team believe the competition would be easier.
Yep they bribed everyone at the hospital and faked photos. It was just a little road rash but the media fell for it. You on the other hand can't be fooled.
@@tekyamedia828 not true Jonas is the one struggling. Jonas is not "running away" from Pog this year. Jonas gets to feel what it is like to have the leader following your every pedal stroke. The pressure is on Jonas and he feels it.
@@redjetsen1002 remember what happened last two years. When tadej runs away it’s for seconds but when it comes to Jonas it’s for minutes 😹😹😹😹let’s see the next stages and he’ll prove you wrong 😹🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈.
No Jonas simply used his strong long power, his strong core pace. Pogi used his energy less wisely as was proven at the finish. The winner today was Jonas, showing he is still his biggest competitor and can follow and beat him…Jonas didn’t spend any extra energy compared to Pogi
So 100 days out from the Tour a guy can take 30 days off, meaning NO exercise at all, and still be at the top. I guess the dope is now extraordinary. If you think this is natural then you have not watched cycling for very long.
Fatal crash by vingo. Raw power pogacar is stronger than vingo that's a fact. But last years Jumbo visma is just super super strong and Tadej's UAE squad cannot keep up just be for real..
@@Shadowboost because last year The Power gap of visma and UAE is very Noticeable. Pogacar keep it Tough but not long enough the UAE squad last year is weak.
Yeah i love Pogacar spectacle but he is making the same mistake as 2022 giving too much for nothing...he not learned too much. I think Vingegaard have this.
Thank the lord for JS & TP, Fck-ing the best thing that's happened to TDF since LA. Don't care what ya think. All the other are boring. It's like Superman VS Zod.
After the stage on gravel everyone every one was hating jonas , small balls and so on , today he showed his balls .and belive me , poggi is afraid before the real mountain evenpoel wil just wait to his balls to get groven up , maybe grow aome hair to
Is Pogacar still afraid of Jonas after the real mountains this weekend? Didn’t seem like he was afraid of Jonas at all, the way he attacked him was actually pretty confident.
