Indeed. FWIW, Jonas stock just skyrocketed in my book after hearing that his point of view has changed after the crash in Spain. He is showing maturity and appreciation. He has the talent obviously. With this new outlook, he may have staying power.
Agree with @sam.83 jonas just sucking wheels and not doing anything at all. Completely boring to watch him. If he wins it was with the least effort of all the gc guys
People are criticizing Remco for his frankness, but to me it is very refreshing. He does not involved himself with self censorship and all that rubbish. I am a Pogi fan, but I truly respect Remco for his candor.
To me Remco only exposes his stupidity. Thinking Jonas doesn’t have the balls to race, when it clearly would have been stupid to race with Remco and Tadej. Jonas would have rode the stage on their terms, if he had helped them with 77km to the finish…. Remco appears very unintelligent in this interview.
It’s foolish bravery. Remco forgot they lost him on the last demarrage. He himself would have been victim. And jonas wasn’t on his own bike, so he had more fear for having a flat tyre… (he had two : bike swap & slow flat at the end).
@@StevenRoddy-o2h I don't think it's too disrespectful to be honest. I think, right or wrong, it's his honest view of how he saw it at the time. You can disagree or not like the words he chooses, but admire the fact he says it like he sees it. I do think he'll mature and his interviews in 2/3 years time will likely be more modest though for sure haha.
What he is saying is that if the three worked together than these three would most likely all be on the podium. But frankly he is fighting for a podium while Jonas and Pogi are actually trying to win. So he realizes that Jonas is not racing the same race that he is.
What Jonas did today was smart. It's very obvious that this is Remco's first tour, he can't expect Jonas to push with them on a stage that doesn't fit him at all, while it's a stage that fits him and Pogacar very well. It would've been a stupid move from Jonas to push with them.
You are soooooo wrong! is this your first bicycle race? if Jonas didn't just wheel suck this stage and every stage so far, the three of them will finish off Primoz for this tour and can fight among themself for prodium next 2 weeks! There is no time bonus on today race so doesn't matter if he finish 1st or 3rd! Yes Remco call it! Jonas new nickname is No Ball JV
@@FM19964yeah but he is a boring rider he has no balls at all doesn't attack ever but that is also why Tadej and Remco are the 2 best riders of this generation
One week and I’m still a Pogi fan, but also became a Remco fan and renewed my respect for Jonas. Jonas was the real winner today. Visma rode really smart and both Jorgenson and Laporte helped Jonas big time, not to mention Tratnik. Chapeau Visma!
@@saulgood6909I'm sure he understands the fans' perspective, but he's also concerned about riders's health and safety. TDF already has many risks, such as steep descents, street furniture, crosswinds, bunching, etc., not to mention crazy people running alongside them, self-fools, stray dogs and people generally being muppets on the road. The organisers addding unnecessary risk is clearly for entertainment and is driven by the sponsors, not the riders or the majority of TDF long-time fans. Next they'll be putting in hill-jumping on BMX bikes to add more entertainment...
Yes i echo the same watching Remco is fun now i realise whats the hype.. but Pogi and Remco complements each other .. only if he can climb as good as Jonas and Pogi does. Huge respect to Jonas ❤. Go Pogi go … he is an alien god bless man 🎉
@@markdonovan1540 Except these relatively flat, short sectors of mid-pack gravel weren’t very dangerous at all - certainty when compared to bombing a descent at 80kph, which I assume he is fine with. You wouldn’t be a GC rider if you thought otherwise as you have to descend at full speed, not just go through the motions. I think it’s more down to him knowing his body type suits the high mountains so he’d rather ride a stage like that instead. Riders with a bigger body and more absolutely power would be the other way around. It doesn’t make one right and other wrong, but to argue against it on safety grounds with what they do on a mountain stage is disingenuous.
@jooohan because it would have been way more energy to follow every attack AND pull on the front of a group of 3 - rather than ONLY react to attacks and then sit in the wheel of the other 2 and/or your team? 🤷♂️
Good show of character from Jonas. He thanked all his teammates multiple times. It's amazing how he's performing at this level after the kind of injuries he sustained not too long ago.
jonas was conservative, speculative, strongly depending on his team (^without balls" as Remco said) ALWAYS, before and after the crash, stop crash-whining, he is ok. Jonas fans are boring like him
@@jacobc7731high mountains is literaly the only thing hes good at, thats why he will never win anything apart from that. For the past 3 years hes been dedicating whole his season for last week of tour. Imagine we would have 3 riders like Jonas on top, nobody would watch Tour until last week. Just plain boredom.
He speaks his mind without all the filters. Remco came back to this level after a horrible crash that would have ended the career for most riders . I like all the top 4 riders . They are great young men and very humble. Truly a joy to watch them.
Tadej, Jonas and Remco are something else. In this interview, Jonas demonstrates new levels of maturity and appreciation in the aftermath of his crash in Spain. Jonas has an abundance of talent. With this new outlook on life, he may have staying power.
@@Misterterrence Obviously, you never watch Gran Camiño, Tirreno, Basque Country, Dauphine or Vuelta. Also what do you expect from a mountain climber who recently punctured his lung and broke several ribs to do in an almost entirely flat first week that suits the other favourites better?
what a dichotomy between the two riders. one complained about his teammates, organizers and disrespected his rivals.. while the other thanked his teammates, gave kudos to his rivals and just happy to be at the race. (i am thankful both are here to make the race fun to watch though)
or just boring racing? i understand the point you trying to make but i also think that it still is a race and visma always manage to make the race boring and not entertaining
@@v1ctqr14I dont think so. Jonas attacked Pogi 2 times in the first week last year. Then killed him on the TT and the day after. Boring and ‘No balls’ would be more like Remco last Year at The vuelta. Couldnt even keep up with Kuss who did 3 GT’s that year.
Verbally attacks Jonas, verbally attacks his teammates, verbally attacks the race organisation. Typically Remco… Never his fault, always everyone elses
@@fangru7294But he won't because he won't have the luxury. He'll have to pull because of the GC at that time, and Jonas will also pull because he's that kind of guy and sportsman.
@@needfoolthings Jonas literally never pulls, DEF not a great sportsman either... did u miss all the visma drama last vuelta. Jonas wanted the pride and glory for himself even though sepp has been helping him win for the past 3 years. Visma had to ask him to hold back
Remco is head over heels with his bro-crush on Tadej. :) Balls: Coming back after breaking seven ribs, your sternum, your collarbone and puncturing a lung to your first race, the TdF and being top three!
I personally broke ONLY my collarbone at one point in my life and I spent 40 days sat at home not being able to move. I couldn't imagine getting hurt the way he did and performing the way he is doing only after a few months. It's exceptional.
@@gg05irgm okay… but does that not reflect his entire point? As humans, I would hope he has ultimate peace with his family and life before I would worry about his cycling career, no?
Jonas is doing the smart thing and saving his legs as much as possible for the high mountains where he excels. The tour was not going to be won on this stage but certainly could be lost!
I think good interviews all around. Remco knows his "balls to race" comment isn't really fair, he's just a little frustrated that they could have got away as a three for the stage win. But he's hungry to win which is good to see. He's aware that Jonas is playing tactically. Visma-Lease A Bike did a great job today. Great balanced interview from Jonas as usual.
I love Remco's one day race mentality...even if it's a terrible idea. I also love Remco's whining when other racers don't race according to his plans and for his own benefit. He'd be unstoppable if he used his brains more than his balls.
@@marcotromp2610 Tadej and Jonas are only concerned with one another, neither is concerned with Primoz or frankly Remco, especially knowing he blew up in the Vuelta and lost almost 30 minutes. Remco is an idiot for not realizing that.
This guys are asking Jonas to work with them knowing that he is just recovering and is saving energy the most he can. He is taking the tour day by day surviving each one looking at the future, and waiting to see if he can afford to attack
Bullshit. If that was true, he would've pulled yesterday. That would've, likely, secured him a podium place in the TdF. If he didn't think he could win it, then that would've been the absolute smartest move - just like Remco says. However, he didn't - so we can infer that he thinks he is in good enough shape to win the TdF - and that he didn't want to give away a couple bonus seconds to Pogacar.
Seems Salt & Vingegaard due to that big crash in Basque is still riding himself back into 3 week race form so far during this first week of the Tour to be eventually as ready as best he can for Pyrenees and Alps. He's got to pace into form using the early stages like a form of improving his fitness yet still keeping the favorites within reach.
@@GardEngebretsen Exactly and now if Jonas doesn't win it'll be failure after his negative tactics yesterday. It also would've taken all Tadej UAE teammates out of contention for a podium therefore eliminating the chance they can double team Jonas in the mountains.
Wow ! Remco throws Jonas under the bus 'no balls', throws his team under the bus 'wouldn't pull me to the front', and even throws the motorcycles under the bus 'allowed Tadej to draft' !!! Not a good look. He has to learn his strategy is NOT others strategy.
It's a f**king race! Jonas is not there to make you and Tadej happy! If you guys are so strong, why didn't you gun it and try to get rid of Jonas instead....truth is, you couldn't and you expected Jonas (riding his teammate's bike) to help you win a stage! WTF I used to like Remco but not anymore.
amen, Jonas is doing the race the way he wants, not how Tadej or Remco want any more than the come to him and ask how he wants them to ride.. Ridiculous
Amazing guy, man to man duel all the way. Boring chess player Vingegaard ruining cycling, dictating his team, took away so many wins from teammates already. Rides 0 races, only the Tour, should have a minimum of uci points to compete.
When all is said and done, it's a real privilege to watch these amazing athletes go head to head. Huge respect for Remco and Jonas for their recovery ahead of this race.
Poggi : spectacular, fun, sympathic, complete, attacks as soon it's possible, but has to calculate more. Jonas : most dangerous opponent, best climber, strategic, realistic, but had not the ideal preparation. Remco : huge potential, powerful, but impulsive and has a lot learn in the competion on three weeks. This tour is veriy open, it's cool. And don't forget Roglic, the outsider.
Not the “ ideal preparation “ 😂 he was 9 weeks ago in ICU with multiple fractures and a punctured lung , you make it sound as if he had a single fracture broken collarbone….
@@4gtg4 he had a punctured lung multiple rib and collarbone fractures I doubt s hospital would keep him in an intensive care unit for 10 days if he had moderate injuries, remarkable he s at the tour competing all be it not at his best
@@Gary-le7dz I really doubt that... There have been several sources saying otherwise, including Tratnik. I don't know why the media doesn't ask Jonas directly what his injuries were.
Jonas knew that if tadej attacked, it was over for him without teammates if he was working. Remco might have been able to close it but Jonas has raced tadej before and knows going against him in a small group is just suicide
Who cares what other people think! It’s a race and Team Visma has solid plans for the tour and Jonas is staying with his goal. The real GC action just got started
It's an incredible recovery for having a big crash, both mentally and physically. With two trophies already in hand, Jonas is now weighting family more and more.
The psychological impact of any crash - let alone such a serious one - is often under-appreciated. Trauma and PTSD are very real. He's got a strong heart and an iron will to return to form and to the pinnacle of racing so quickly.
Being part Belgian, I so badly would like to support Remco, he's an arsehole though, always unhappy about someone or something, never Remco's fault, always someone elses.
@@jaibhardwaj4886do they even have race bikes in your country 😂 . Maybe take a look at what Evenepoel has won before you badmouth him. Not everyone can be as good as Pogacar or Vingegaard.
@@sveng5319 For me he is more fun to watch than Remco. Racing for second place is not fun, and I never liked it in any sport. Remco is the one that doesn't have the balls. Neither does he have the tactics. Racing mindlessly is not for me to watch either. If I wanted that, I would watch ski jumping. You jump as hard as you can, and that's it.
What a statement coming from Remco! Where were Remcos balls the last two Tours? Not in France! Jonas have won the Tour twice and is racing again after a crash that nearly ended his career. He would never say anything like this about his opponents, that’s why he is a true champion.
@@김철수-v2i4w No you are right, Vingegaard can’t win classics like Pog, he is a different type of rider, that’s also why he don’t attack on classic-type stages. Pogacar is the best bike rider in the world, so of course Vingegaard needs terrain where he has the advantage to attack, and when he has that, he usually attacks right? The big mountain-stages in high altitude. Because it’s only a specific kind of stage that really fits Vingegaard over pogacar, and there is usually just 1 or 2 stages of them in the tour, vingegaard attacks less than Pog, but when he does he makes huge gaps.
Lack of respect to say Jonas doesnt have the balls. Vingegaard has fought the most tough battle fysically and mentally to even start this tour. Riding the descents with full power. Yes Remco fights for the podium, but Jonas wants to win. Remco is a big clown talking shit about his teammates, motorbikes and Jonas.
Remco doing stage 9 as if its a one day race. Some riders speak with their legs others use their head. Great day for Visma, contained pogacar and kept vingegaard safe and jan even gave his bike away, also the team itself looked strong.
Great sportsmen. All of them. An amazing race with great characters. Gives us all a chance to see great athletes at the top of their game. Love these guys!
Jonas is such a stout competitor and although respectful, he is a straight up killer on his bike. He isn’t there to make friends, doesn’t care about people’s feelings and is there to win. I dig his perspective and it’s awesome how he views things judging by his comments here, but make no mistake this man is here to win and I love that about him.
I don't think this motivates Jonas. Remco is far to insignificant to be a motivating factor. And Jonas is motivated by postive things not statements put out by inferior riders.
I think he'll get 2nd... Pogačar is way stronger than him, Jonas doesn't have as good a team as previous years and Pogačar has a way better team than previous years aswell
It's just different styles... Remco even says 'I understand where he's coming from and respect the tactics'. It's almost like he's baiting Jonas to take some risks... Loving the dynamic of having 3 potential winners at the front this year. Exciting.
Oh grow up Remco. You are always crying. The tour could have been won today?!? That would have been great for the next two weeks eh! It's called tactics in a three week bike race.
I don't think he was saying their tactics were shit, he openly said he understood why Jonas didn't work with them (which was obviously the right decision for Jonas). Also come on: double world champion, grand tour winner, 2x monument winner, stage wins in all 3 grand tours and currently 2nd after week one in his first TdF at 24 years old? Hardly a nobody
Kudos to Jonas for his final comments there. Seems like he has his head screwed on straight and his priorities right. I hope that makes him even better in the sport, but it will for sure make him better as a father and as a human being.
@@CyclingMomentsHighlights of course, duh? That's all the more reason to use this argument. So that the kid knows his place, learns about the tour and sees the big picture.
I love all of them, for their differences. I think Remco has the mindset of a race commentator, looking at all the pieces, yet having survived two of the most spectacular crash landings ever, still rides with his balls. It isn’t boring!😄🇨🇦🇨🇦
Remco didn’t have the balls to just keep pulling TP and JV to the line today. I mean, that’s about as dumb as comment than his. I don’t think JV is worried about Roglic and securing a podium. Jonas is three time starter and two time winner of this race. Please don’t tell him how to ride his bike, this isn’t masters racing.
Shame on Remco. He is mad that his rival did not want to take a turn at the front, that's dumb. Then he insults Jonas for it. Then criticizes his team for not bringing him to the front when he was in difficulty. Then says Tadej was pulled by motorbikes. He wouldn't have been in difficulty if he wasn't attacking senselessly. And he talks his trash with such confidence. Jonas came to the finish line and praised his teammates' work and support.
He should, 1. his team ride and protect him all race. 2. his teammate give him his bike when he have a flat time. 3. Matteo Jorgenson have to drop back from a break with TP and pull him backup! I would also say thx to the team when they just save my tdf chance many times in one day
By stage 9 of the 2023 Vuelta Remco was 2:22 back and in 4th place on GC. By stage 13 he was 27:50 back, in 19th place. Oh yeah, Remco won the 2022 Vuelta when none of the Big Boys entered the race. He's either about to do something amazing or look very foolish. For those who say, "Jonas doesn't attack", did you not watch the 2022 and 2023 Tours de France? He cracked Tadej by ATTACKING in the mountains. And it WASN'T BORING at all!
he still won a grand tour at age 22. doesn't mather who was there. thats more then respectable if you ask me. okay he isnt on the same level as poggi or vingegaard in the mountains, but who is? having the chance to ride a nice podium or top 5 in your first tour would be incredible for remco...no need to put them against each other. just sit back relax and enjoy the show.
@@robinoklo3578 He literally said the two time defending TDF winner has, “No balls”, and then backpedaled and said he understood Jonas’s tactics. Are you kidding me?!!! Total disrespect. Tadej is too smart and has too much respect for Jonas to ever say something as stupid as this.
It’s exactly the reason why Vingegaard has beaten Pogacar in the past, and why he maybe will win also win this year: because he is racing smart! Attacking all the time (like Pogacar and Remco like to do) is of course exciting and entertaining for us, but it also means wasting much energy, and in the TdF they probably will pay for that with a bad day. Vingegaard (with a very strong team) and Roglic (with a much much weaker team) raced this stage smart!
Good he’s getting under the skin of Remco What a baby to say vingegaard doesn’t have balls. V is here after breaking ribs, sdr, puncturing lungs. He’s not at full speed yet. And ignorant Remco he’s not, like you, racing for the podium. He’s racing for yellow And he will be at full speed stages 14 and 15, stages where you Remco will be in big trouble, where history tells us that you lose big time.
Remco likes to attack far away from the finish on flat terrain. I'm looking forward to seeing him walk the walk in a hard mountain stage against the two best climbers in the world.
What are people complaining about? Be happy that Remco brings some extra spice to the Tour instead of the same battle we had the previous years! He's entertaining. He says what he thinks ( hallelujah for that ), and he's a proper racer, not afraid to go for it! He's probably not going to win it, but never a dull moment with him on or off the bike!😃
tadej and remco pure mad coz jonas outsmarted them. they didnt gain anything after all the attacks theyve made. remco showing all balls no brain lol. jonas the clear winner of this stage.
