I lost most of my kidney function due to cancer and I’m just about to start PD. Once I am in remission long enough, I’ll consider the transplant list. Your channel has made my journey much easier. Thanks so much for sharing. Your story makes a difference!

Dialysis or meds I’ll choose meds every time and I take many more medications than you do (14 prescription medications). I’m a week into starting PD after having a transplant I got from Mom 32.5 years ago. Keeping my fingers crossed I can find another living donor because the wait in my part of the country cadaver (the northeast) is 5-7years. Great to see you looking so healthy in your videos.

I enlisted in multiple states, if that's something you can manage, look into it. But 5-7 Years seems average for the US. When I first enlisted I was in California and for my blood type it was 10 years.

I'm glad you're doing well and staying strong. I went to the hospital with a GFR of 4. And now my GFR is up to 16 as of a month ago. An enlarged prostate was the cause of my kidney failure and now Im getting better. My diet has really made the difference in my kidney function and I hope my kidney function will continue to improve. Your videos are an inspiration. I wish you well :)

WOW!! GFR of 4? I hope it continues to rise! That's great news.

@@DawnRaven Thank you! Trust me going to emergency with a GFR of 4 was the shock of my life. I didn't even know my kidneys were failing. So I workout 7 days a week and eat only what my dietician put on my kidney diet list. Im trying to avoid dialysis or a transplant. I am wishing you the best. Stay strong

@Rods here Glad your doing better! Bless you and I hope you can you to get ur kidney function completely back to health! I was curious if you know how your enlarged prostate led to kidney failure? Was it your meds u were taken to treat ur prostrate?
@HardwoodHighlightss
@HardwoodHighlightss Год назад
@@veronicamjm3288 the enlarged prostate caused the urine to back up and not exit the body. This is exactly what caused the kidney failure. Thankfully the problem has been solved and my kidneys have dramatically improved. I’ve always been very healthy. Non drinker, non smoker, and working out at least 5x a week. Health is wealth. If anyone has an enlarged prostate take it very very seriously. I’m very fortunate I did not have to do dialysis. Gentlemen if you have an enlarged prostate go see a doctor immediately.

Hi Dawn, you look great and I'm happy that things turned out so well for you. After over nine years on dialysis, I was sucessfully transplanted in March 2021 at the Virchow hospital in Berlin, Germany. Unfortunately, the Prednisolone triggered instant diabetes and I needed insulin for the duration of my hospital stay. They have, step-by-step, reduced the dosage and since 3 months completely scratched it from my medication regime. I hope for the diabetes to completely go away. Otherwise, my new kidney is working splendidly. All-in-all, I think dialysis is the worst option and I would allways recommend a transplant. I'm 68 now and grateful to be around in the age of Tacrolimus and CellCept. Originally from South Africa, I was born in "Groote Schuur" hospital where the world's first human-to-human heart transplant was performed in 1967. I remember how aweful the transplantees looked back then before Prograf and CellCept appeared. Stay positive.

My guy lost his kidney to cancer. Discovered at age 63 the he was born with only one😮. It had to be remover in January 2022. Initially we were interested in home dialysis. However, when I found your videos on your process I knew we didn’t have space to have a clean room. We also have cats. Can’t wait for him to get on a transplant list. Really appreciate your informative videos.❤

You actually don't need all this extra space, but I understand that PD doesn't fit well into all CKD patients lives. Goodluck to you both.
