There are now only about 400 USPS officers who say they are banned from patrolling streets, and relegated to protecting only postal facilities. READ MORE: abc7chicago.com/usps-postal-p...
1. Pursuant to New Jersey Statute 2A:154-5 postal police officers are empowered to arrest with or without a warrant for violations of the United States Code. They are authorized to carry firearms in the performance of their duties. They are empowered to act as an officer to arrest offenders against the laws of this state where the person reasonably believes that a crime of the first, second, or third degree is or is about to be committed or attempted in the officer's presence. But they can only exercise these powers while performing their official duties. 2. If I'm not mistaken, back in August 2020 all postal police officers received a new directive from the United States Postal Service (USPS) that banned them from performing their patrol duties that safeguard our nation's letter carriers and mail off USPS grounds. The directive issued by a bureaucrat who was a Deputy Chief Inspector stated that postal police officers no longer have law enforcement authority whatsoever. Only when they are physically stationed on real estate owned or leased by the Postal Service. 3. Unfortunately, this directive restricts postal police officers from fulfilling their law enforcement duties and undoubtedly jeopardizes the safety of America's letter carriers and mail. My understanding is that there have been a couple of incidents where a letter carrier was robbed by an armed suspect. If that's the case I recommend letter carriers take a firearms training course and apply for a concealed carry permit. This way they'll have a fighting chance against an armed robber who robs them.
If I was offered a job in Chicago making triple my current salary, I wouldn't take it. Not a chance. I wouldn't even find a house outside the city and commute.
@@party4keeps28 that's the only chance they have for change is if they get hit financially. Less tourism, businesses leaving and workers not wanting to return to the office in the city because they fear for their safety. Then maybe these woke politicians will wake up, or the voters will.
The reduction of the postal police force began in 2020, when Donald Trump put Louis DeJoy in as Postmaster General, and he promptly began creating chaos in the postal system. It is strongly believed that DeJoy's mission was/is to snarl voting-by-mail.
I believe it's a numbers game, it simply isn't enough police personnel to send a personal escort with every carrier. The guys on here are whining about it being transferred to local authorities. Not really, those communities should be actively patrolled by the city police anyway, the sheriff for the deep suburbs and outer areas
that's partially true, but it's also downstream from the fact that there's a fraction as many PPOs as there used to be. Also, the PPOs weren't necessarily patrolling the communities, they were actively protecting the letter carries as they went about their business. It used to be, if you tried to rob a mail carrier or their truck, you ran the risk of being caught in the act by a PPO. Now, you can do whatever you want and law enforcement is simply playing catch-up. Might as well put out PSAs telling criminals "rob your local mailman, as long as you take steps to protect your identity, we probably won't catch you. And we're definitely not going to stop you beforehand."
We need these officers cause that’s what they are at the end of the day, officers that are sworn protectors of the community , and we need them out on theses streets , especially now of all times
My trust fund was stolen. Here on earth- we would have seen plenty of changes for the good had I been able to purchase nice homes for people and say "This is your gift from God and lucifer, please be kind to all other living things and remember that your final judgement is with God after this life". That was the easy way, show we care with financial enforcement.
Sorry, but your bloated, spraypainted, draft-dodger was in charge when the postal police force was cut to the bone, and the likely goal of he and the menace he put in charge of the postal service was to create what he loves: chaos.
That's right, you LIAR, the big cuts to the postal police were made in 2020, when Donald Dump was "president." At the time, he and DeJoy were busy taking the US Postal service apart to try to hurt mail-in voting.
@@ivanlopez-cx7op It hurts you. Donald Trump and Louis DeJoy began this dismantling of the US Postal Service. In fact, Donald Trump, to this very day, hates black people in big cities being able to send and receive mail.
@@ivanlopez-cx7op If you saw the truth your conspiracy brain would think someone is trying to lie to you, please grow up and stop being easily brainwashed lmao 😂
