Erik and Pills cover posthumanism in the context of systems theory and what makes it a viable model as an alternative to humanist explanatory frameworks of how society functions. We reference Niklas Luhmann (amzn.to/3ObXyUq) quite a few times as well as Francesca Ferrando's "Philosophical Posthumanism" (amzn.to/3rtH8N...

Awesome episode! I noticed you mentioned Hans-Georg Moeller, he has a youtube channel called "Carefree Wandering" with alot of quality video essays on different philosophical topics. He himself specializes in system theory and chinese philosophy with publications relating to identity and profilicity. I bet he would want to join a podcast episode on luhmann and systems theory

Would it be possible to go somewhere between post humanism and humanism? I find reducing the human to systems reductive but i also regard reducing the human to a fully autonomus sovrign entity to be reductive

I think the 'speculative realist' branch of social science philosophy might be up your alley. Graham Harman's writing is relatively accessible. I think he's written several introductory texts. I recommend you check them out.

I have been listening to your posdcast for a few months and I enjoy it a lot. You asked for questions / comments so here is one that seems particularly relevant to me, especially in relation to Heidegger and some of the reactionary implications of this line of thought and the politics he supported. I have a concern about the post-humanism turn and post-modern one in general mainly because of this. What is claimed to be post-humanism, to me sounds just like an echo of anti-humanism of de Maistre: “Now, there is no such thing as ‘man’ in this world. In my life I have seen Frenchmen, Italians, Russians, and so on. I even know, thanks to Montesquieu, that one can be Persian. But as for man, I declare I’ve never encountered him.” That is, although there is a sense that the affirmation of identity and difference is more progressive rhetorically, politically it emerges as a reason for firm differential rights and powers, in opposition to a more egalitarian project. The politics of protecting difference, as Zizek describes, is sincerely used in defending regimes like apartheid, since if political and social integration were to occur, much of the differences between previously relatively distinct and unique cultures would be lost. There is a difference to me in allowing equal civil rights across domains of difference, which is ultimately a progressive integrationist project and defending autonomy, localized privileges and potentially segregation, in hopes to preserve unique essences of different groups. I think this latter approach can only veer towards the conservative and reactionary since reifying difference erodes solidarity. Even if the group asserting this is oppressed ( i.e. Jews after the holocaust), the assertion of their self-determination requires others to be either ethnically cleansed or subjugated to assert this autonomy. (As a Jew who does not support this project, and by implication nationalism in general or any differentiation of rights on the basis of identity, this is of particular relevance to me). How do you respond to this concern?

This was a great episode! I could follow along every aspect you mentioned and elaborated and I wish to hear more about systemic theory and normativsm, especially the aspects you both mentioned at the end of the podcast. I can't - unfortunately - point my finger on a concrete subject there, but the phrase by pills "ideas don't matter (...) find the weak points in a system" sparked more interest in me. Thx for the good work!

Thanks for the great talk, really looking forward to part II ! Just a short question (a little bit out of topic/ maybe not): Nietzsche, could he be considered as a „Post-humanist“?

You can consider Nietzsche as a proto-posthumanist (and to a certain degree, Spinoza as well).

I love this direction *gestures vaguely at Cybernetics, Systems Theory, Post-Humanism and Monism*. Maybe you can get Hans-Georg Moeller on. Btw, the "oe" in Moeller is pronunced more like the "eu" in Deleuze. Slightly more open actually.

As a humanist who is concerned with the moral problems of posthumanism, I am very much looking forward to listening to this. So although I have my concerns I have been searching for some posthuman perspectives that can change my orientation.

Great podcast- I’m wondering how closely viewing the world in terms of systems relates to animistic philosophy viewing the world in terms of kin relationships?

C'mon guys, this is positivism. Instead of rationality you say system, so what.. posthumanism simply perpetuates the very humanism it's reacting against by anthropomorphizing, unwittingly. Disdained humanism comes out from the technology end. Boring and incoherent.
