I'm so grateful I found your channel this week. I just postponed my test because I wasn't feeling academically ready. Now, after watching this, I feel like I can trust myself. I'll keep pushing forward, and I'll picture my future self and go for it!! Thank you so much for your videos!!
“i saw every question known to mankind” LOLL literally feel like this at 80% finished with uworld 🤣 just took my first nbme and got a 57 (77% of passing). i feel confident that in a month i can pass. you’re SO RIGHT about the positive self talk. i do this as well in my exams all the time and i think it makes a huge difference 😁 when i glance at the answer choices first i say “ok i know this, i saw this,” then i read the stem. i will update you with good news hopefully 🙂
Thank you Dr Randy. After having my son and getting him diagnosed with autism, I thought my medical career was over… It’s been a long journey and now that I decided to go back and take my boards your videos are very inspiring and helpful. This is a great advice that comes from your heart 🥲… 🤗
Thank you so much, Dr Neil. This could not have come at a better time. I am 40 days out of my exam and contemplating leaving my job. But I am gonna fight on. Thank you for your kindness.
Fear really hurts my performance. If I take an NBME practice test and I get a below-expectations score, I'll be anxious all day, brood about how I've done things wrong/cheated myself and procrastinated etc and how that has come back to bite me, but I've noticed that if I let go of that cloying suffocating sense of guilt while taking a practice test, I tend to do better. By better I mean slightly above average, by bad I mean below average. It's tricky, because truth is, this one test WILL determine our future..
I must say you doctor , I heard so many motivational lectures regarding this usmle exams , your one is one of the best ! The way you represented the journey till becoming MD in Florida and driving ,and ,that dreamy back ground sound to pacify the struggling student's hearts - I felt like you just presented all of our dreams in your divine words! Thanks so much ! God bless you doc! We are fortunate to find a teacher and doctor like you amidst us .and extra thanks for that "self talk" thing .
"you know it if you can teach it to others" is what I take back everytime I see a video of yours. Also, I liked the "emotional vampire" reference lol. I mean we all have few friends and family motivating us but it's really different when a psychiatrist motivates you. So thankyou for making some time for this much needed video! Looking forward to the exam in a few months now:)
Thank you so much for this video particularly. I am following your channel and learning a lot for my step 1 preparation. Every content is great. But this one was just what I needed at this moment. As an old graduate it is frustrating process to start over things and many time I feel lost. There are so many negativity out there, as you said. I felt very refreshed and motivated by your talk. I will try to receive only positive information until I get through it. After every video the road trip you share really gives me a time to set my goal.
This the the exact boat I’ve been on these past few months. A roller coaster of emotions. This video gives me hope because you’ve given me a solid plan to move forward. Absolutely loved the little personal details you add in there about your own struggles and your own dreams. Gives it such a human touch, Dr. Neil.
Jolie, It's a very hard journey...but well worth the struggle and sacrifice. I assure that there were many more struggles that I haven't shared ... Bottom line is that if you can STAY FOCUSED and POSITIVE... Maintain a clear picture of what your future looks like... it WILL become your REALITY. The earlier in life we realize that trick...the EASIER life becomes.
You have a great way of teaching, helping peoples out in every way. I loved the way you helped me with the basics of biostats a long time back. Now looking at all the new videos on every subjects on your channel, all people taking test are getting benefitted from the way you help them understand in the simplest way possible. I am so jealous. Wish I had exposure to all these before. Still I go over some of them time and again and just refreshing the memories. You are truly blessed Doctor. I wish someday I could work with you (under you as your resident). Keep on all the good work. Thank you. Love from NEPAL.
What a great motivational video,! I have taken 4 NBME exams and have passed one, don’t get me wrong but when you days I’m the video that you failed your 1st four NBMEs well, it’s encouraging and serves as an incentive for me to keep at it! Everything you said from passing 2 NMBEs to talking to yourself is highly motivating. I especially like the part where you visiones yourself as an md driving on a Florida highway 👍. I also think that setting higher standards is a great thing also getting up early - all great advice 😉 Will follow your advice .Thanks again Dr. McNeil you are the best.God bless,
Dr. Randy, Thank you soo much for sharing your story. Greatly appreciated for the advice/encouragement. It’s really helpful for staying focus, positive, devoted... A great USMLE channel & beyond.
@@RandyNeilMD Thank you Dr. Indeed, I did watch this video several times just to keep my hopes up and remembered in my head "Keep Moving Forward" to keep myself going. I scored 259!!! Thank you.
Even though I'm not a medical student, this video has helped me immensely. I've some management exams coming up, and you have just put things in perspective for me. Thank you so much for this golden piece of relatable content.
and I thought that I am the only one with all these feelings :) Thank you so much Dr. Neil for sharing this amazing content with us. Much appreciated..!! I watch your videos almost every day. I like them so much. It feels like a family member is teaching us.
I have my exam in December. I have to postpone my exam because I didn’t study in October due to some health issues. At that time I was in my last phase of preparation .so now I want to start my study again but feeling so depressed because I feel I forget most of the materials and don't know where to start again. But after watching your video I feel so confident about myself 😊. I will start again tomorrow. Thank you so much Dr.Neil.
Wish I had seen this video before I took my exam. I remember the day before taking it, my mom called me and I ended up having a panic attack over the phone. Fortunately she calmed me down and I took the exam. What helped me was really using the breaks to center myself again.
@@RandyNeilMD Hello Dr. Neil. Just wanted to let you know that I passed! Thank you very much for the supportive content and the great biostats videos. I couldn't have done it without you!
I love you Dr Neil for this. I have exam in 2 days. Though I had rough time like you said and I am doing it good now. But still there is sound in my head. I hope I will overcome this beast.
I have been postponing my exam for like a few weeks coz I haven't felt ready yet or maybe anxious too at the back of mind But you sir have given me a new direction and motivation :D And the driving part , i have been dreaming of driving across the country in a Tesla :p
Dr. Neil, this is the exact encouragement that I needed right now! I am taking an NMBE tomorrow and booking my exam if I am close to passing. I keep putting it off by 2 or 3 months; the calendar keeps turning. These Step exams need to be put behind me.
Watching your video after 10 months again. Finally taking the step 1 on 28th. I don’t know if I am ready yet. I still don’t know. Too much self doubt going on in my mind right now. I have taken 4 nbme’s and I passed in just 1… the last one..I am scared for myself right now. But I am done running away from it. It’s now or never situation for me. Watching biostat and biochem videos today. Just want to thank you for putting in so much efforts for helping us. Wish me luck Dr Randy Neil.
You're amazing! Really needed this video; so bogged down with the study. I'm on my first pass of uworld and cant decide when to apply for the exam. Should i go for nbme or uwsa?
Perfect moment for me to listen to your advice the anxiety , pressure and mental exhaustion is present, I also have NBME’s record you guys are not alone I passed the first 3 then failed 4th (I burned out)then was able to pass the last one but not with the score that I will like and feel confident I’m trying my best but feeling like do not know what to expect ..... any thoughts???
Thanks for uploading this video Dr.randy. As I still have this question in my mind. As an old graduate IMG still failing in my name exams.I get fear while writing nbme exam.
I have to postpone a third time (the first time was because I didn’t have the foresight to understand how much time I would require) and my heart is a little heavy because of it
Thanks for this video doc, i was starting to feel useless just bcoz I couldn't give my exam on time with my peers n its taking longer time now but hey its better late than never right?😊
I will take the exam at the end of the week. I was confident until past week but now I feel I am forgetting all the information, I am so nervous!. I feel that I need to take this exam because I feel burnout but I am scared.
Second guessing yourself is all part of being human and 'par for the course'... Stay focused. If your NBME scores are good, then go CRUSH IT!! Your fear of the unknown is just 'an old story you are telling yourself". If you are ready based on NBME, then don't think otherwise. As they say, We suffer more in imagination, than reality.
Hi, scheduled for August and then extended eligibility with new Step 2 test date in November. Unable to take test in Nov and will be cancelling with prometric. Do I need to wait a certain period of time before reapplying on ECFMG website for new Step 2 exam? Or can I just start a new application and pay the new fees etc straight away?
I did an NBME two weeks ago and got 120 :( so I took a week off from studying and watched Netflix. Now I'm regrouping and deciding how to reach my goal. I postponed my exam for the 10th time, for mid March.
NK, REGROUP and then ATTACK in a new direction. Start from scratch... Start with BIOSTATS...master it, then move to the next and review, review , review...
what if i want to do it earlier than i had intended? e.g. my Eligibility period is oct - december, but i waana do it in the Eligibility period mar - may. how do i do this?
Thank you Dr. Neil, for sending this message out there to those of us who need it most. My wife and I say that the universe acts in our favor when we truly want something - I can't help but know that this video was meant to come to my life, just at the perfect time. I'm testing in December. Thank you, I will keep all your teachings in mind, and will keep moving forward! Best wishes from Mexico!
Greg, Thank you for the comment and "Yes"... timing is PERFECT! Stay FOCUSED, Stay STRONG. MOST importantly...BELIEVE. You are on the home stretch for studying... don't let up.
