My Grandfather, Ronnie Kemper was one of the band members with Horace Heidt during the dinner scene while, "A knife, a Fork and a Spoon". He also could be seen singing during the Caballero of Broadway scene (playing drum). My Gramps always rented this movie to watch over and over again.

I was born in the late very late 60s you might as well call them the 70s for how late they were I can remember being about three and watching Neil Armstrong land on the moon you know his take his steps on the moon and see the comment one giant leap for mankind so yes I am old but I’m not as old as some of the people who looked at this and I have only one thing to say no matter how old you are it is definitely gold they all movies in the all songs they don’t they don’t die they can live forever because frankly they are not just memorable classics there the best.

+ray... really? one of his best? I disagree. along with the movies listed by Stephen Adams can be included "Winchester '73", "Destry Rides Again", "Rear Window", "The Man Who Knew Too Much" and "Rope." bogart and stewart are my 2 favs. I think it sure would've been interesting to see these 2 in a movie together.

perhaps Jimmy Stewart's said difficulty on the set was due to his PTSD from the war. While his PTSD enabled him to perform realistic, moving moments (it's a wonderful life, Mr. Deeds goes to Washington) it may have agitated him as well. I speak from experience, my children and I have PTSD ,OCD and anxiety disorders. One time you can be weepy & overwhelmed, another moment will set you on edge.

This delightful musical comedy is a laugh riot! Jimmy Stewart's uncle owns the factory that's trying to buy out Paulette Goddard's family home: a boarding house ruled by her genial, fiesty Irish mother (Mary Gordon) and populated by a struggling dance band. The plot thickens, & the jokes keep comin. Some of the musical numbers are really unique. I think my favourite is the jailhouse choir singing "You Gotta Get Up In the Mornin". (Even though it's not exactly an HD print.) Great to discover a really good one I've missed.

Interesting. I never knew that. Well he's entitled to his opinion. If that's true, the rest must all be brilliant! (I've recently seen one of his on RU-vid that to me seems less good.) Of course, we're not always the best judge of our own work. We're not objective. And artists' tastes are often not the audience' tastes.

man, I was beginning to wonder if this movie had anything to do with the old radio game show of the same title. it sure took a long time to get around to it. this movie had way too many musical numbers for a non-musical. I am seventy years old and was told something by my late cousin who directed movies many years ago that was hard to believe. But first I must say I have never watched a movie James Stewart was in that I did not enjoy. My late cousin was one of the directors that directed James Stewart and Dean Martin both appearing in the same movie. My cousin told me many years ago that Martin was very easy to work with and direct but Stewart was very hard to work with and was a problem on the movie he helped direct. I wish I could remember the movie but with my age and so many years cannot remember the name of the movie other than it was a western. It shouldn't surprise us as many other stars are not the characters they play in the movies and hide the true person from the public on purpose to stay popular.

DenverDurango Actually he could be difficult, according to Maureen O'Hara's autobiography. She nailed one scene perfectly. That's when a crew member (maybe it was her makeup person) told her, now you've done it. Now shooting will end for the day. And yeah, it did. It was like he couldn't stand it if someone acted him off the screen.

yes, the rare breed. as soon as I posted that I remembered. I have that in my dvd collection. released in the mid '60s brian keith steals the show as a cantankerous old red-whiskered Irishman. not really a particularly good movie but interesting and Juliet Mills is wonderful. and o'hara of course is just enjoyable to watch in any movie. the hobbs movie kind of reminds me of stewart's version of cary grant's "Mr Blandings Build's His Dream House."
