With Pot Roast you can make any cheap piece of meat taste amazing. Definitely a great Recipe for those trying to stretch their food budget.

My parents both were kids during the first depression and as a kid my mom ate 'Pot Roast' as a normal Sunday 'one pot meal' served for dinner complete with veggies grown in the family's garden. Growing up as a kid in the 50's it was one of my favorite 'one pot meals' my mom learned from her mom. Interesting how old and basic, especially if out of desperation, has become new and fashionable.

I think there's something special about meals born out of necessity... Harsh circumstances seem to inspire ingenuity in the kitchen. Plus you know it's good food because it's survived the test of time. I'm no gourmand or fine diner but I've found that a lot of the best food will come from the least impressive kitchens.

I can relate! Later on my Mom used a pressure cooker. That's what I usually use now.

Andhika Putra I agree 100%! Good food is good food and I'll take the grub from a 'family diner' for a decent price before the crap at a 'fine dining' establishment for the outrageous prices, small portions and the bragging rights that I ate there.

***** I used to work a part time job at a local big-box retailer, I was in the housewares and small appliances department, mostly for shits and giggles but the discount was nice! After the Boston bombing the company issued a recall of ALL it's pressure cookers and they still don't stock them. I have the one my parents received as a wedding gift but it's old and I'm kind of afraid to use it [the Sunbeam Mixmaster still runs great!!}, they were married in 1946.

Mine is a stovetop Fagor Duo, but there are several electric automatic countertop models. All are very safe. Check out Amazon.

Amazing! This was so good I will always make my roast beef this way. The sauce and the onions in the bottom of the pan tasted great. We also made sandwiches with the roast and the onions. Good enough for even spacial occasions. Thank you!

Subscribed. I like how you really thoroughly explain things. I'm normally a pot roast in the crock pot kinda gal, but I must make the next roast in the oven in the Dutch oven. I'm off to explore your channel. TFS!

My favorite meal ever. Love making it. I have to learn spices. I grew up in Upstate NY and for some reason we didn't season alot of our food. I'm kind of getting into wine so I'll try it like you did. Mine recipe is just like yours though. :)

Hi Sarah, I love your recipes. I'm curious why garlic is chopped sometimes and crushed/whole sometimes. I'm referring to the pot roast recipe and the beef stew recipe. Thanks for all the great recipes and videos.

I usually cook pot roast in a pressure cooker, which both reduces the cooking time (to less than an hour) and produces extremely tender meat.

So I have a large Calphalon pot that is not super heavy but IS ovenproof. Would this work okay for pot roast or is a dutch oven essential?

I find the grain in chuck seems to run in different directions making slicing "across the grain" difficult. Best I've done so far is divide the roast into sections depending on the grain direction and then slice "across the grain". Any other ideas? Rip and tear hasn't worked for me since you get a lot of along the grain pieces which are very chewy.

Stock, or even water, just liquid to deglaze the bottom of the pan.

I tried slow cooked beef several times but the inside always ends up a bit dry and tasteless. I usually eat it immediately after cooking, should I wait and let it rest for 15 min or more?

not crazy at all sir. Smart, imaginative......know what to use to absorb salt if you've over salted? 🤔
@georgeb8701
@georgeb8701 5 лет назад
@Ichigo Red I'm impressed! I haven't over salted in a very long time. I use sea salt sparingly, and or low sodium soy sauce. It doesn't take much to season food. Knowing how to cook is key. Continue to enjoy your time in the kitchen sir, it's a labor of love. I've got a ton of saved recipes from You Tube! Free! A home cooks dream! 😄 ✌🏻🇺🇸

oh so it's like beef bourguignon?
@kevinbyrne4538
@kevinbyrne4538 8 лет назад
Yes, but whereas beef bourguignon is chunks of beef that are simmered while they're submerged in red wine (like a stew), pot roast is usually braised in much less liquid, which usually doesn't include wine.

Carrots take longer to cook than potatoes? Something is wrong with your produce then for sure. I've never met a carrot that takes longer to cook than a potato.
@iwineverygame1995
@iwineverygame1995 3 года назад
Depends on how they're cut to size. A carrot is certainly denser than a potato. So if cut to equal size, the carrots will take a little longer.

So hysterical to watch her removing the fat at 4:33. This woman needs educating about food and nutrition, especially good animal fats. it's almost laughable to watch her take out the healthiest and most satisfying part of the dish and throw it away.
