To be honest, (sorry DeLuise) the rules and lore in Harry Potter made more sense than in Wizards of Waverly Place. Like, I never understood why only one wizard has to keep their powers, and the show did nothing to explain it! It also didn't help that Disney Channel would air the Harry Potter movies from time to time.

Not really. I liked them both for different reasons. Harry Potter was like more epic but wizards was a lot more relatable and felt like I was chilling with my cool magic friends. Harry Potter could be stressful lol

Wizards wore it's inspiration on it's sleaves, but at it's heart it was it's own quirky thing. i'm not a huge Harry Potter fan, but i loved Wizards of Waverly Place and how well the comedy blended with the magic elements.

I think it’s been through post more thoroughly. It’s been color corrected so the dullness of the room is gone. They also fixed the missing audios. I thought it was odd when they first uploaded a seemingly not fully edited podcast video.

The way I make the wizard competition make sense despite different ages in my head is like this: they all get mandatory education and resources up until they are 18. Once they hit 18 they are still wizards but are cut off from any extra education or resources(anything else has to come from themself) until the youngest gets their standard education. Once he/she hits 18 they begin the “end” of the competition.

As the youngest of my siblings.. First, I agree so unfair. Makes sense Max and Uncle Kelbo are goofballs, as they were never looked at as an option for the compitetion. Second, this however makes it so we can see Max struggle later, when he tries to be taken more seriously.. I felt that. Sucky rule, but it made Max's story and I loved it.

I assumed they had a curriculum and once Max finished his curriculum, he was eligible to participate in the family wizard competition. Maybe I’m misremembering but I feel like I remember he hit a certain spell number that he’s learned and professor crumbs showed up. But it’s still unfair that Justin and Alex had years of extra study time and practice compared to Max. Maybe it’s one of those traditional things too where they prefer the eldest sibling to inherit the big family thing.

I think later on in the show Alex and Justin both get their progress reset and Max gets in the lead and when he finally finishes his training at around 16? the competition happens,,so technically they’re all at the same level, but Alex and Justin do have some more years of experience,,about the freezer, I think it was both a freezer and a lair and it was simply unnecessary to show them turn it into the lair every time cuz no stranger ever worked in the sub station like Jenn said

Thank you for another great episode! When I was watching the show, my take of how siblings (of different ages) compete at the wizard competition is that there was a minimum age requirement that they had to meet to compete. For example, they had to be at least 16 years old to compete. I don't know if the rules of the competition were ever flushed out because I have no idea how the youngest could ever catch up haha! 🤨

I feel like the writers kind of just improvised as they went along, and the change in showrunner didn’t help with continuity. It’s hard to say if it’s an age thing, since by the end, Alex would be around 17/18 (having just graduated), Justin a year older, and Max would have been a bit younger than Alex (not sure if it was ever established how much younger he was on the show, but Jake would’ve been around 15 when they filmed season 4). And then we have Stevie, who was clearly around 16, who was already losing her powers to her older brother.

To Answer the first question I think it’s more so that the youngest wizard gets to a certain age, and then they can start preparing as in studying and practicing for the competition, and the date is set, so no matter where you are at the time of the date of your competition that’s where you’ll be all the competition. That’s my understanding of it.

I'm from very rural NY and I had no idea what a subway station was when i was around 8-10 and I was so confused when the restaurant was subway themed because in my head, subway was the trademark fast food place 😭. And for years I was like "won't Disney get sued for making the restaurant modeled after Subway?" And I was also confused because it looked nothing like the fast food chain.

@32:25; Explanation for, what turned out to be a quick resolve to the spell gone awry... Jerry (and Theresa) didn't know that this happened until, the dinner party, the get together had already started. So, he couldn't really do, think of the 'quick fix', when they had the two guests/mortals over. This was something that the Russo siblings were keeping to themselves, figuring out their own short term fixes.

What I’ve learned from other child stars especially the Nickelodeon ones, is that they really don’t owe us as fans anything, I’m sure the actors talk in real life but they may not want their lives broadcasted. Especially the actors who left the industry and the most people like us can do is respect that.
