I put my lilies in soil with small rocks on top to keep it all sealed in and to stop the goldfish having their way with the substrate. They do OK, but need more sun than my pond has to really shine. I mainly have white ones as the coloured varieties need more sun. I use the same fertiliser pellets too. Thanks for another great video Kev.

good idea, a wide container with no holes. convenient. i would've thought the roots need more oxygen via waterflow but i guess not. aquatic plants confuse me lol. nice fish :)

Hi kev, ive got a 1000litre ibc , i wrapped the pallet in weed cover, put a 60mm pipe into it and sunk it in the ibc for a plenum, i then put 75mm deep of of 50mm cobbles, then 2 inch of 10mm gravel, i have 10 big goldfish in there now with two wee airstones, one works the plenum threw the 60mm pipe the other bubbles under a bcb basket full of cat litter and red flourite, i done this last june and its going good so far, never water changed it and no algae issues, my question to you mate is how did you root the water lilly straight into the gravel as I'd love to plant one or two in my ibc pond, cheers from Fife in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

May I ask why you do not plant your waterlilies straight into the bottom of the pond, and I notice you do not have oxygenators in the bottom of the pond. Why is that? Also what air stones do you use?

There is no way I am going into my pond in the winter. unfortunely I did not pot my water lillies so they planted themselves in several places in the pond. This was 5 years ago and they are huge. Its soon October here in Denmark and my water lilles still have leaves and flowers. This pond is a real pond not a little pond like you have in the garden. We have clay soil and I have never fertizled them at all.

What name flower with red colour in your pond? 🙏
